3 Arrival Students are to be dropped off at designated dropoff areas in the morning. Students will wait for their teachers to open their doors at 8:10. We encourage students to bring a book to read while they wait for the bell to ring. Students are allowed into the classroom at 8:10 and are considered tardy if they are not in the classroom by 8:20. On behalf of NBBE, we would like to thank each and everyone for your support on the arrival procedures.

4 Our school day ends at 1:50 pm. Bus and ASC students will be escorted by a teacher or ASC leader prior to Parent Pick-up. Persons picking up students MUST have a pink dismissal paper in order to pick up their child. Per School Board Policy, the early release of students causes disruption to the academic performance of all students and may create safety and security concerns. Students will not be released within the final 30 minutes of the school day (after 1:20 pm) unless authorized by the Principal or Principal s designee (i.e., emergency, sickness). Please schedule appointments, etc. accordingly. Parents will not be allowed to wait in the office from 2:00 pm -3:00 pm for older siblings to be dismissed. After School Care (ASC) offers story hour from 1:50 pm to 3:05 pm for those students who need to wait for older siblings to be dismissed. If you are changing the way your child is going home, a note must be written to the teacher, even if it is for just one day.

5 Students are to be counted in attendance only if they are actually present for at least two (2) hours of the day or engaged in a schoolapproved educational activity which constitutes a part of the instructional program for the student. Therefore, a student released early before 10:20 am, for students in grades K-1, will be marked absent for the day. Absences must be followed by a written note from home on the day that the student returns to school. (Please refer to parent handbook to clarify what is considered an excused absence.) The note must include the following information: Student s name Student ID Date(s) of absence Reason for absence Parent s signature.

6 Please Note: Excessive absences will be monitored and will be documented when a student reaches five absences. Students accumulating 10 or more absences during the school year MUST seek a doctor s note for all future absences in order for the absences to be considered excused. Failure to submit a doctor s note for every absence thereafter will result in the absence being marked unexcused. Students who are tardy or are released early a total of 5 times will not be qualified to receive a Perfect Attendance Award.

7 School Board Policy 5200 states the following: A student who is absent more than nine (9) days within a semester will not receive a passing grade for the semester. The student shall have reasonable amount of time, up to three(3) school days, to complete make-up work for excused absences. Any student who has been absent from school will be marked unexcused absent until he or she/he submits the required documentation. Failure to provide required documentation within three (3) school days upon the return to school will result in an unexcused absence. Unexcused absences do not require that the teacher provide make-up work for the student.

9 Red Folder will contain the Home Learning packet and daily behavior log. Red Folder must be brought to school everyday. Home Learning packets are passed out every Monday and collected the following Monday. Please make sure that your child is bringing their homework folder with their homework packet to school daily. Your child s conduct will be documented daily on a behavior sheet, located in the red Home Learning folder. Your child s behavior may affect their participation in any field trips or special school activities. Take Home Tuesday Folders have been issued to all students. Important school notices will be sent home in this folder every Tuesday.

10 Students will begin iready in the second grading period. iready lessons will be expected to be completed at home: 30 minutes of reading per week 30 minutes of mathematics per week We are asking that you do NOT assist your children in completing the assignments, as it will not allow us to have an accurate idea of how your child is doing on the program. Student login information will be the following: Username: student ID Password: student ID and child s initials (lowercase) Additional information will be sent prior to starting.

11 Payment for field trips will be CASH ONLY and EXACT CHANGE. Chaperones MUST wear the NBBE Friday t-shirt on both off and on campus field trips. Please be aware that some field trip venues are small, therefore, limiting the number of chaperones. All chaperones must be cleared volunteers at the time the field trip packet is submitted for approval.

12 You must register to become a volunteer every school year. Volunteers must wear the NBBE Friday t-shirt on field trips and events at school. We welcome parent volunteers in the cafeteria! Do not wait for the last minute to register and get cleared! It is a process that cannot be rushed.

13 Birthdays Birthday celebrations are allowed in the cafeteria but you must be a cleared volunteer. Store bought cupcakes only please, no pizza, etc. No balloons, treat bags for birthday celebrations.

14 Mandatory Uniform Polo Shirt Colors: Gold, Navy or gold and navy combo Bottoms: Khaki (pants, shorts, skorts) No jeans! Friday : Navy Bee T-Shirt with jeans Field Trip: Navy Bee T-Shirt with jeans Uniform Purchase: Polo Shirt and Navy Friday/Field Trip T- Shirt can be purchased at our school, through our PTA every Wednesday afternoon.

15 PTA Parent Teacher Association We ask that you please join the PTA. Membership helps support students, teachers, and the school. Membership fee is $10.00 per person. PTA membership forms available tonight at the PTA table in the courtyard area. Volunteering is not necessary for membership; those that are able to volunteer will receive additional s about upcoming events that they may participate in. Parent Academy Parent workshops: please inspect Take Home Tuesday folders for information/flyers about upcoming workshops.

16 Testing Students will be tested formally and informally on information taught at school during the week. Students will be tested in the following subjects: - Reading - Language Arts - Mathematics - Science - Social Studies

17 SE-SAT SE-SAT is a state mandated formal assessment which will be administered to test students on the subjects of Reading and Mathematics. SE-SAT window of testing is April 4 th to the 10 th. Further dates and test details will be communicated via Take Home Tuesday and test night.

18 The Florida Standards Emphasize success in college and careers. Prepare students with 21 st century skills. Provide more rigorous content and application of knowledge. Place emphasis on critical and analytical thinking. Establish clear, consistent guidelines for instruction. What Subjects are Included? Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS) and Mathematics Florida Standards (MAFS) provide a clear set of goals and expectations. Define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level kindergarten through grade 12.

20 How May I Help My Child? Read different types of books and informational text with your child. Ask your child to find answers to questions in the text of books, newspaper articles, manuals, etc. Encourage your child to form and defend an opinion by supporting it with facts, details and reasons from text. Discuss mathematics ideas with your child and have them explain these to you using pictures, graphs, etc.
