1 Welcome My name is Natalie Short, and I will be your child s first grade teacher for the school year of I am very excited to have your child in my class and watch them grow as learners. We are going to have a ton of fun! Experience Education I graduated with honors from Grand Canyon University in December 2014, with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education. Go Lopes!!! 5 All children need a backpack to transport their belongings to and from school. Please make sure to check your child s backpack each day for homework, announcements, and notes from school along with homework folder. In our classroom we keep our supplies in community areas, which means we share our supplies. Please read below of items we will need to make our school year successful. Please keep in mind we have about 31 students in our classroom, and it can change throughout the year.

6 Our Schedule We will begin class at 7:45am. During this time students will eat breakfast and work on morning work. It is very important your child arrives to school on time. We have a busy schedule making sure we grow our brains in all subjects areas, so it is very valuable that your student is here when they are healthy. Our day ends at 2:15pm, and your child will have to be picked up from the door (room 6). On Wednesday our day ends at 1:15pm. For your child s safety, please let me or the office know if someone else will be picking up your child. Specials Mon- Library Tues- P.E Wed- Music Thurs-Computer Lab Fri- P..E In our classroom we will be using a behavior clip-chart to be able to communicate how your child behaved. Anything green and above is great! {Please note we will also being using Class Dojo & other incentives} Pink: The top level. The student made excellent choices throughout the day. This level is difficult to achieve. When students reach this level they receive a punch on their punch card which leads them to get a prize once they collect so many. Purple: This level is reached when a student has made several good choices throughout the day. Blue: When a child has made one/some good choices, they get to clip up to the blue level. Green: Everyone starts the day on green every day. Most days children will be on green the entire day. Please note that being on green is not a negative thing. Yellow: This level is reached when a child makes a poor choice. I will give him/her a warning first and then if the student continues to make poor choices, he/she clips down to this level. This is a warning only. Orange: If bad choices continue to be made, the child clips down to orange and will have a consequence. This can mean no recess, missing a fun activity, changing seats etc. Red: If a child continues to make bad choices, he/she will clip down to red. This means that I will be calling home or sending a note home to let you know that the child reached the red level. The note can also be found on the behavior calendar. If something serious happens, he/she will be referred to the office.

7 Hello! My name is Miss Short. I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary and Special Education. Lopes up! I have been teaching for 3 years. I absolutely love first grade! I m looking forward to getting to know your child and getting this year started! It is important that we all work together as a team in order to help your child succeed. Through the app I will announce class news and you will be able to see how your child is doing. Behavior Calendars Each student will be given a orange folder that will be sent home daily. On the front of the folder you will see a behavior calendar. This will show you how your child performed in class that day. Please initial daily and send back the next day. First Grade Homework Inside the orange folder your child will have a homework packet. The homework packet will be given out on Mondays and they must completed and returned every Friday. The first couple of weeks we will not have homework because they will be practicing responsibility with returning the homework folder with the behavioral calendar signed. Students will be given leveled homework that will be best for them. If you ever have any questions about homework, please feel free to contact me.
