There are great advantages to the usage of these items, but there are also unrecognized and unnoticed dangers to the holiness and purity of families. Several parents suggested that we have a parent information night in follow up to an sent last spring about cyber safety. We have arranged for a speaker to address this critical issue on Tuesday, April 19th, 7pm at the school. attend this event. Our kids are at great risk. Knowledge of the dangers and connecting with other parents are valuable tools. If interested in the article we sent last spring, please contact the office. We are working now on planning for the school year. 2 P A G E 2 School News HVCS Board Nominations This June, the school board terms of Pete Goethals, Patrick Hoban, and Joe Miller will be coming to an end. Nominations are being sought for these positions. The board terms are three years, beginning with the June board meeting. The time commitment includes a monthly board meeting (usually the fourth Monday of each month), and participation in one or more of the school committees. It has proven helpful for board members to have experience in one or more of the following areas: budgetary planning, educational philosophy, marketing, public relations, events planning, social media, fundraising, and building management. Pete is currently serving as Chair and Treasurer, Patrick is the Vice Chair and Marketing Committee Chair, and Joe is the Secretary and Fundraising Committee Chair. As a parent governed school, it is imperative that we have parental involvement in all aspects of school life, especially at the board and committee level. Candidates must be a practicing Catholic who has been an HVCS parent for at least one year. You may nominate yourself or someone else. 3 P A G E 3 School News Lower Grades Talent Show As part of our Easter Week celebration, there will be a talent show featuring students in grades 1-4. This will occur on Friday, April 8, right after the 8:05 a.m. Mass. All are welcome to attend Mass and stay for this entertaining event. Play Ball! On Tuesday, April 12 th, our 6th- 8th grades will traveling to Comerica Park to partake in the Detroit Tigers Class Outside Series. Iowa Testing This is a reminder that we will be administering Iowa testing for grades 3 8, the first two hours of the day during the week of April 25 29, from 8:20 10:15 each day. Seventh and Eighth Graders will be fitting all testing into the M-Th time slots. It is important that students are well rested, had breakfast, and are not late so that they are able to do their best on these tests. Students should bring a water bottle, a good book, and two pencils to the testing. It is best to schedule appointments for your child after these times so they do not miss the testing. This presentation is hosted by Toledo's Imagination Station. The program uses live demonstrations and science experiments to show how clouds are made, anemometers, barometers and more! It is a fun day of science, weather and baseball. After the presentations, the students will attend the Tigers vs. Pirates game. Go Tigers! Chicago! Our 8th grade class will be taking their annual trip to Chicago on Monday, April 18, On Tuesday, April 19, the 8th grade will not have school. If a student is ill and misses part of the test, we are providing an option for students to make up tests the next week, May 2-6. Make up sessions will be after school by appointment, from 3-4:30 PM. A fee of $30 per session will be split by the number of families taking the tests each day. Tests with missing sections will still be scored. Please contact Shannon Hamby if you would like your student to make up missed tests and let her know the possible days that would work to make up the test the week of May 2-6. Mrs. Wolfe will be in contact with parents for the make up sessions.
