Public Welcome Board Chair Sherry Duerst-Higgins welcomed the public. Review of Agenda Addition to Consent Agenda G. Resignation, Iton Udosenata, 1.0 FTE, Cottage Grove High School Board Member Merlene Martin made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items A. through E. with Board Member Gary Mort seconding the motion. The motion was

2 Superintendent Krista Parent shared Iton Udosenata will be traveling North, to become the Principal for North Eugene High School. Discussion as to how he will be missed ensued along with compliments of his work with Cottage Grove High School. Board Member Taylor Wilhour made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items F and G. with Board Member Gary Mort seconding the motion. The motion was passed with a unanimous vote. Student Representative Reports A. Savannah Palis, CGHS Savannah shared Lion Pride was a success bringing in over $16,000 for the Children s Miracle Network. CGHS had a team from game development participate in the Oregon Game Project Challenge (OGPC) and afterward they had many engineers approach students with offers. Pink Prom is coming up thrown by the GSA club partnered with South Eugene. B. Anna Lalonde, KHS Anna was not able to attend. Principal Mike Ingman was a pinch hitter and gave an update on the Delight Valley progress focusing on the Garden area. He shared the 2017 Graduation of possibly 40 graduates will be held at the Delight Valley site in the gymnasium, a nice tie from old to new. Kennedy students are focusing on state testing now. Special Report Bohemia Elementary PADS-Performance Assessment, Heather Bridgens Principal Heather Bridgens shared a power point presentation showing the impact the grant has had on staff and students. In January 2015 she had asked staff what their focus should be. Three things were brought to the table: PBIS (Positive Behavior Management), Assessment along with School, Staff and Student Culture. Public Comment Karen Munsell- 223 South S, CG Karen wanted to address the board today in regard to House bill 3030 that is being sent to judiciary and she intends to follow it. She shared her story and how her passion to stop the sale of whippits to our youth came about. Karen asked for the Board to support the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) as they take steps to the Senate requesting the restriction of whippits to match the newly passed tobacco law. Board Chair, Sherry Duerst-Higgins asked the board if they would like to sign a letter of support, and all agreed. The Board directed Superintendent Parent to draft the letter for signatures. Kerry Clawson Meadow Park, CG Kerry reminded the board that she too was a victim earlier this year of social media. She shared her concern as a community member as to who will be next. She asked of the board in the current atmosphere with all of us involved to separate personal from professional and to not be unduly influenced by social media. She ended her time stating we should not let technology out weigh good judgement and fair thinking. Break: 6:18 p.m. Resume: 6:22 p.m. Reports A. Superintendent Krista Parent 1. New Tobacco Ordinance Celebration (Governor Brown)

3 On March 14, 2017 Lane County Public Health approved an ordinance raising the age to purchase and possess tobacco products to 21. On May 19 th Governor Brown will be at the Cottage Grove High School Library for the Ordinance Celebration starting at 1:30 p.m. 2. Bond Update Site demolition took place last week. When asked if we have pictures Garrett Bridgens stated he has had web camera trouble so he doesn t have the pictures to share the progress as he hoped. Matt Allen shared he had applied for seismic grants which they typically only award one and we were awarded five with a focus on collapse potential. More bond updates will be shared in the June meeting. 3. State Financial Update Not a lot to report due to final numbers not given from the State level. Phil Scrima and Krista Parent will go to print with the Governor s Proposed Budget Allocation $8.0159b. The budget committee will meet May 8 th to approve the South Lane School District Proposed Budget. B. OSEA Representative Report, Laura Frederick Laura shared Chapter 32 classified members have struggled this year due to snow days and cut days. They are focusing on informing newly hired staff of the member sign up process. Negotiations will start this week. Sherry Duerst-Higgins complimented the Bargaining Team adding South Lane was the first district in Oregon to move to a collaborative bargaining process in the early 1990 s. Unfinished Business A. Board Evaluation, Superintendent Krista Parent Krista shared we had excellent feedback from all. The other administrators are very appreciative of our board. Sherry interjected after 30 years on the board it s like a fine oiled machine. B. Open Enrollment Numbers for , Superintendent Krista Parent Krista shared we had a total of nine students that took advantage of the Open Enrollment window. C. Approve School Calendar, Superintendent Krista Parent Krista stated the calendar does not represent cut days as we are still waiting for SLEA to accept the up to four days in the calendar. Due to scheduling we need the calendar approved. Board Member Merlene Martin made a motion to approve the School Calendar with Board Member Gary Mort seconding the motion. The motion was D. Policy JFC (V1) Student Conduct 2nd Reading, Student Services Coordinator, Mike Ingman

4 Board Member Taylor Wilhour made a motion to approve Policy JFC (V1) Student Conduct with Board Member Tammy Hodgkinson seconding the motion. The motion was E. Policy JG Student Discipline 2nd Reading, Student Services Coordinator, Mike Ingman Board Member Gary Mort made a motion to approve Policy JG Student Discipline with Board Member Taylor Wilhour seconding the motion. The motion was New Business A. ODE Food Menu Price Increase, Assistant Superintendent Kyle Tucker ODE has increased their lunch food prices by $.10 for the school year. Both free and reduced food programs will remain the same. Adult prices will be increased by $.25 with a hope to not raise adult prices next year. Board Member Taylor Wilhour made a motion to raise the adult lunch prices by $.25 with Board Member Gary Mort seconding the motion. The motion was B. Elementary Math Adoption, HR Director Brian McCasline Brian shared the process used to adopt curriculum. The Adoption committee narrowed it down to two publishers then had a full review. Ready Math by Curriculum Associates ranked the higher of the two. The Board unanimously approved the adoption choice. Krista Parent gave a Shout Out to Cottage Grove High School for coming in at #24 of the Top 25 High Schools in Oregon. Board of Director s Comments Alan Baas Alan shared Projects the Healing Matrix board has supported. He shared Friday a small group of volunteers will meet to see how many will be available to assist in the weed control movement. He stated they are very aware they will need to meet with Matt Allen and abide by rules governed by the State. Gary Mort Gary shared his experience at the Walk for Science as a science professor he was a part of it considering it his weird activity of the year. Jerry Settelmeyer Jerry stated the Ice Cream Bowl was fun and the weather was wonderful. Tammy Hodgkinson and Merlene Martin served 270 chunks of ice cream. He gave a shout out to Matt Allen and team for helping with the staging area and Jolie Presley with her parking assistance. Merlene Martin Merlene stated she enjoyed meeting the families at the Ice Cream Bowl and they had handed out family games to all that wanted. She shared in California she worked with prevention and rights for Child Abuse, this event was right in line with that. Sherry Duerst-Higgins Sherry shared the steps taken in the Lane ESD interview process for Superintendent with the four groups involved. Lane ESD hired current Pleasant Hill Superintendent, Tony Scurto who has been in our county for 24 years. Everyone is excited for this hire.

5 Tammy Hodgkinson Tammy shared she has been Little Ms. Protester and had taken in the Climate One event. There were a lot of kids. They were given leadership and it made her think of making sure kids know how to be citizens. Taylor Wilhour- Taylor visited London last week and stated he often forgets what a great school community they have. He also made it to Lincoln Middle to discuss the $5,000 Cow Creek Umpqua Indian grant and garden project with Aprovecho. On a side note he did not make it to the March for Science but he stated he did wear his Science is not a Liberal Conspiracy T-Shirt.
