Congratulations to Mr. Carlton Howard (Building Services) for celebrating his 25 th year of service. PTA Family Dance A huge Panther shout-out to our PTA and volunteers for hosting the Family Dance on Saturday evening. A great time was had by all. Lunch Account Reminders Please remember to check your student s lunch account balance by using ww.myschoolbucks.com. Also, please be mindful to repay borrowed lunch money to the front office. Transfer Request Forms Transfer requests and employment verification forms have been mailed to parents of students who are currently attending PPES on an approved transfer. All forms are due by February 15th. Transfers not completed by this due date may not be honored.

2 School Supplies Please check with your child to make sure they have all needed materials for class. Many students are starting to run low on school supplies. More information to come. 6 th: Kindergarten Registration 7 th : All yearbook orders are due 12 th : Career Day Spirit Nights February 15 th Salsarita s and Sweet Frog, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 14 th Greene Turtle, open to close April 12 th Mexico, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Have a Heart for Technology Fundraiser, 2/8 to 2/17 The PPES Digital Learning Committee will be selling heart lollipops for $1 from February 8 th to 17 th (or until the lollipops are gone). Stop by Ms. Tipton s room between 8 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. to buy a lollipop. All money raised will be donated to the PPES Technology Fund to purchase new devices. Box Tops for Education Deadline, 2/24 The overall class that submits the most Box Tops will win an End of the Year Ice Cream Party! Deadline to submit to PPES is 2/24. In order for your child s classroom to receive credit, the teacher s name must be on the bag or collection sheet. Science and Engineering EXPO, 2/25 On February 25, 2017, Calvert County Public Schools will host the 6th Annual Science and Engineering EXPO at Calvert High School from 11:00am - 3:00pm. Families and students from PreK through grade twelve are invited to attend the EXPO. The EXPO is designed to be fun and engaging and will include robots, flight simulators, science and engineering projects, catapults, and much more for the entire family to enjoy. This event is free and open to the public. 4 PPES Technology Fund/St. Patrick s Day Dance, 3/17 We are having a dance on Friday, March 17 th from 3:25 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. The cost will be $5 per student (no more than $10 per family). All proceeds will go to the PPES student activities/technology fund. Snack/drinks/St. Patrick s Day items will be sold for $1 each. More info to come. Remember every Friday is Panther Pride Day! 7 Dress Code As a reminder, the CCPS Code of Student Conduct requires all students to follow a dress code: Skirts/skorts/shorts must be longer than the longest fingertip when student stands with arms fully extended at their sides. Tank tops, halter tops, strapless tops and garments which are too tight, see-thru, expose one s cleavage or midriff area, or have spaghetti straps are not permitted. Sleeveless garments must fit closely under the arms. Clothing with inappropriate scenes or wording is prohibited. All pants must be worn around the waist. All Volunteers Must Register For the safety of our students, all volunteers for CCPS must reapply annually through KeepNTrack prior to volunteering or chaperoning field trips. All previous volunteer information has been deleted from the system. It is important to apply before you plan to volunteer. The link to this application process can be found in the Volunteer section of our district website. Home Access Center Home Access Center (HAC) allows parents to view grades, interim reports, and report cards online. Login credentials will remain the same until your child graduates. To access HAC go to: School Messenger (SM) notifications will be sent automatically to the address and phone numbers that are on file for you in HAC. Contact information and subscription updates must be made in HAC by parents/guardians. What if I am not receiving text messages or don t want them? SchoolMessenger notifications are sent automatically to the address and phone numbers on file in HAC. In order to receive text messages, you must have a Cell or Cell2 in HAC. 7

8 School Messenger continued Additionally, you will need to opt in to receive text messages from SchoolMessenger by texting Y to from your cell phone. You should receive a confirmation text that you are registered to receive texts from SM. To stop receiving text messages, you can toggle them off on your Preferences screen or text STOP to at any time. Student Safety As always, ensuring the safety and security of our students, staff and visitors is paramount. We do not want to deter visitors, however please remember the protocol for entering the building. The main entrance to the school will remain locked during school hours. Stand at the black [X] to the right of the front doors and push the bell to request access. All visitors must report directly to the main office upon entering. School Schedule Policies Our school hours are 8:20 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Car riders and buses begin arriving at 7:55am and doors open at 8 a.m. If you are signing your child out at the end of the day, please arrive no later than 2:55. If you need to sign your child out before we begin calling students, please arrive no later than 2:45. Tardy Policy Students who arrive after 8:15am are considered tardy and MUST sign in at the office. Please see policy regarding frequent late arrivals in the student handbook. Dismissal Policy Students are not permitted to leave school grounds with someone other than their parent/guardian without written notification. Please make sure that you include parent/guardian contact information. Photographs and Videos of Students PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS OF STUDENTS taken in school and at school events may be used in print and electronic media, including newspapers and the internet. This may include photographs and videos taken in classrooms, in other areas of the school 8

9 building, and at events normally open to the public. Students may be identified by name in photograph captions. Parents who do not want photographs or videos of their children used in print and electronic media should notify the school principal in writing by September 30th of each school year.
