2 Volume I Number 2 November 1982 Prepared by the Institutional Advancement Office for the Fordham School of Law ARCHITECTURAL PLAN ACCEPTED AND CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED The Law School's $6.8 million fund raising campaign and the architect's plan which almost doubles the space of the school was announced by the Rev. James C. Finlay, S.J., university president and Dean John D. Feerick at a reception in the law library on November 3rd. Father Finlay assured the alumni, students and faculty at the reception that the upgrading and expansion of the Law School building was the university's number one priority. Father Finlay also told the gathering that he will urge the university's Board of Trustees to commit $1,000,000 of its own limited financial resources toward the total cost of this project which is now expected to amount to $7.8 million. 3 Campaign (continued) Dean Ferrick stated that the construction, the first since the Law School moved to Lincoln Center in 1961, "is being undertaken solely to meet the needs of the current student population, not to increase enrollment. _ "This expansion is absolutely essential to the well-being of the Law School, and once ~ompleted will provide not only the space and ambience necessary for a great teaching and learning environment but will bring an invigorating new dimension to the school." The expansion project will be carried out by the New York architectural firm of Wank Adams Slavin Associates, which is in charge of extensive renovations on the Rose Hill campus. The firm has also served as architects for the NYU and New York Hospital. The major part of the expansion, Dean Feerick said, will be a "significant" enlargement of the law library to include new reading rooms, study carrels and installation of technological equipment. The plans also include a 256-seat lecture hall, two l40~seat lecture halls, twenty faculty offices, a cafeteria with a capacity for 300 students, a student lounge and a larger reception-lounge area. THE BUILDING CAMPAIGN TOTAL - $3,707; I :ndividuals, corporation and foundations are contributing to the success of. our building campaign. As of November 5, gifts and pledges have been received for a total of $3,707,507. Donors may make a multi-year pledge for a specific amount and set their own payment schedule. Multi-year Annuities, Trusts and Planned Gifts can provide lifelong income as well as immediate and long-term tax benefits for the donor and advance our campaign. Our staff includes people trained in this field who can work with you or your accountant on the best plan for you. The growing cumulative pledge total is a great source of encouragement to all those involved in the campaign and will inspire others to give as well. Since September 15, 1982, eleven law alumni have made gifts and pledges ranging from $5,000 to over $100,000. The Law School community gratefully ackriowledges these contributions. 4 BUILDING CAMPAIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE FORMED ~- -- The Law School faculty, administrators and alumni committee were instrumental in selecting the architectural firm of Wank Adams Slavin Associates to execute the detailed plans for the expansion of the Law School. The alumni committee will also assist in the selection of the construction company which will build the more than 50, 000 square feet four-story addition commencing in the spring of An additional 20,000 square feet will be gained by adding two new floors to the present three-story building permitting maximum utilization of existing space after the first phase is completed in the fall of The committee is actively involved in the $6.8 million fund raising drive.
