1 UNIVRSITY OF LINCOLN JOB DSCRIPTION JOB TITL DPRTMNT LOCTION Senior Lecturer in Food Manufacturing (New Product Development) National Centre for Food Manufacturing Holbeach Campus JOB NUMBR COS179 GRD 8 DT pril 2015 RPORTS TO Principal Lecturer in Food Manufacturing CONTXT The National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) is the University s flagship facility for the UK s Food Industry with some 250 businesses accessing courses for their employees, technical services and research via the campus. Our clients include Bakkavor, Nestle, the Produce World Group, Moy Park, QV Foods, Pork Farms, Tesco and Morrisons amongst others and we collaborate with many international partners and universities. Reporting to and working closely with the Principal Lecturer in Food Manufacturing, the post holder is responsible for the delivery of teaching, learning and course and curriculum development in the subject area of New Product Development (NPD) and related disciplines. In addition the post holder will deliver consultancy and technical services to business and play a key role in developing this area to advance knowledge transfer and secure external income generation. JOB PURPOS To deliver of teaching, learning and course and curriculum development in the subject area of New Product Development, Sensory Science and Nutrition and other relevant subject areas and to support students in their studies. To deliver consultancy and technical services in New Product Development and Sensory Science and to play a key role in developing this specialist field to advance knowledge transfer, secure external income generation and promote the University s reputation in this field. To undertake employer engagement, building productive relationships with employers in support of consultancy, external income generation, curriculum development and students. Page 1 of 7

2 KY RSPONSIBILITIS The responsibilities of a Senior Lecturer are wide ranging and may change over time according to the development needs of the department and the individual. In general a Senior Lecturer can expect to undertake any of the following: Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Student Support To engage in teaching on undergraduate (Higher pprenticeships, Foundation Degree and BSc) and short courses as determined by the Principal Lecturer. The range of teaching duties can change from time to time and may on occasions require the delivery of provision to F students (pprentices). To undertake curriculum development, designing, developing, reviewing curriculum in consultation with colleagues and employers to ensure provision reflects the needs of industry, building the New Product Development credentials of the provision to enhance the student experience and to create opportunities for short courses and the development of bespoke provision. nsure that teaching content is appropriately informed by current thinking and advanced scholarly activity. To develop teaching activities by pursuing new and innovative teaching and learning methodologies and assessment techniques to enhance teaching and learning and develop own pedagogical practice and personal competence. This will include building skills in the delivery of e-learning to enhance own teaching and learning and supporting others to do the same. ct as academic tutor to students as allocated by the Programme Leader and as a first line contact for them for advice and support on academic matters, ensuring that students are directed to relevant support services when necessary. Collaborate with colleagues in the continuous review and development of NCFM s programmes and the quality of provision. Work in accordance with University policies and procedures to undertake assessment of students work and give feedback. Plan curriculum delivery so as to maximise resources and the student experience. nsure effective communication with employers and students in support of the provision and student progress. Help resolve problems affecting the quality of course delivery and student progress. Research, Scholarly ctivity and nterprise Provide academic support and supervision for student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level. To undertake scholarly activity and research to inform teaching practice and meet the University s requirements for teaching and scholarship along with aiding the securing of grant funding. 3 Collaborate with employers and academic partners both internally and externally in support of enterprise activities and external income generation. Develop and deliver plans to increase external income generation through NPD trials and related activity including process scale up. To deliver knowledge transfer and other services including KTP s and technical consultancy. Write bids and manage project finances and reporting addressing financial and operational variance as required. Support the securing of external income generation through the development and delivery of NPD/Sensory Science based short course offer. ssist the Principal Lecturer in ensuring that the test kitchen, sensory science facilities and associated resources are appropriately utilised, working closely with the Senior Technician to ensure effective use and smooth operation. Liaison and Networking Interact and collaborate with other internal Schools and external institutions on the establishment of joint technical projects or to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. Liaise with employers to ensure provision is reflective of sector need, to provide opportunities for course development and support for students. Liaise with employers to create opportunities for consultancy/technical support with an emphasis on supporting smaller businesses, although the role does involve engagement with larger businesses. stablish contacts in the wider community; disseminate knowledge through public activities which enhance the reputation of NCFM, the College and University e.g. speaking at conferences. Maintain and develop links with relevant professional bodies and academic groups. Represent NCFM on appropriate external bodies. Take part in relevant internal boards, committees and working groups at School, College or University level as required. Liaise with subject librarians, central timetabling and other services to ensure resources available are appropriately deployed. Team Working ct as a responsible team member, leading modules or programmes and co-ordinating the work of others to identify and respond to student needs. May be expected to supervise the work of others and/or participate in peer observation of teaching. Page 3 of 7
