3 ACCOUNTING AND BUSINESS AAT is the leading, internationally recognised professional body for accounting technicians. Its qualifications are widely recognised and valued by both multinational and local business organisations. Some concessions apply to courses marked AAT Bookkeeping (Level 1) Award AAT Bookkeeping (Level 1) and some courses marked L are eligible for loan financing. This course is ideal if you are thinking of a change in career or if you want to do bookkeeping for your own business. It is also the first step onto a successful career in accountancy and will give you a solid introduction to bookkeeping. It includes single-entry bookkeeping, cash and credit transactions, financial documents and using Spreadsheets effectively. A good level of English is required. AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting (Level 2 ) Tue 18:00-21:00 19/09/ Fri 09:30-12:30 22/09/ The AAT Foundation Certificate is where you will get to develop your skills in finance administration. It is ideal for learners looking for a formal qualification. The course covers the following units: Bookkeeping Transactions, Bookkeeping Controls, Elements of Costing and Using Accounting software. Students applying for this course should have at least a Level 1 Bookkeeping qualification, and a GCSE grade C or higher in Maths and English. This course comprises of five computer-based assessments. Additional costs for AAT membership and AAT admin fee are applicable (approx. 130) and course books (totalling approx. 70). AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting Tue 18:00-21:00 12/09/ (Level 2 ) Fri 09:30-12:30 15/09/ AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3) The Advanced Diploma introduces you to more complex financial processes including: Advanced Bookkeeping; Final Accounts Preparation; Management Accounting (Costing, and Indirect Tax). In addition to individual modular exams there will be a synoptic assessment to cover all the topics including Professional Ethics and Spreadsheet software. This course comprises of five computer-based assessments. Students applying for this course must have successfully completed AAT Level 2, and have a minimum grade C in GCSE Maths and English. Renewal of AAT membership costs may apply ( 90) and course books (totalling approx. 90). Many students will be eligible for a loan to cover the cost of this course and students under 24 years may be entitled to concessions. Please ask for more details. AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3) AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting (Level 4) L Mon & Wed 18:00-21:00 11/09/ L The aim of this qualification is to enhance the skills developed in the advanced diploma. There are four compulsory units which are: Financial Statements of Limited Companies; Management accounting: Budgeting; Management Accounting-Decision & Control and Accounting Systems and Controls. There will also be two additional units from the following - Business Tax, Personal Tax, Credit Management, External Auditing and Cash and Treasury management. In total there are five unit assessments and one synoptic assessment covering the compulsory units. A high level of written English, in addition to a minimum of English and Maths grade C or above at GCSE level, and AAT L3 is required to do this course. Successful completion will give you AAT affiliate member status, and with relevant work experience, you will qualify for AAT full membership (MAAT). Renewal of AAT membership costs may apply (approx. 90) and course books (totalling approx. 100). Students may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan to support the cost of this course. 4 Award in Advice and Guidance (Level 2) This course is ideal for those working in an information and advice role or those wanting to learn more about this and the skills and knowledge needed to provide advice and guidance. An enjoyable portfolio-based qualification. Award in Advice and Guidance (Level 2) Tue 18:00-21:00 19/09/ COMPUTING We have courses suitable for adults with no previous IT skills and those wanting to build on their existing computer skills. The First Step and Next Step computing courses focus on word processing, and internet, and the Intermediate course also covers Excel in addition to exploring more advanced editing and formatting techniques. All three courses lead to a nationally recognised certificate. The IT Workshop and Excel courses focus on key areas to develop skills in particular packages which are useful for work, education or home environments. 5 Counselling Certificate (Level 2) This course provides learners with an array of knowledge, skills and techniques that are essential in counselling, as well as providing opportunities to develop their own personal qualities and attributes. The nationally-recognised Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is ideal if you wish to progress to the additional training that you would need to practice as a counsellor. Counselling Certificate (Level 2) Wed 09:30-12:00 20/09/ Wed 18:30-21:00 20/09/ Counselling Certificate (Level 3) L This course builds on the Level 2 programme and takes a much more in-depth look at how to develop counselling skills and the use of the varying theoretical approaches to counselling. It is ideal for learners who have already completed the Level 2 course or have had significant experience in this area. This nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification is a step closer on the path to becoming an accredited counsellor. A student loan may be available for this course. Counselling Certificate (Level 3) Tue 18:30-21:00 19/09/ Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Level 4) L When combined with the Level 3 Counselling Certificate, this qualification meets the basic training requirement for recognition as a qualified counsellor. This is a 2-year programme and students are required to find a suitable placement where they are able to conduct 100 hours of supervised counselling. Students will produce journals and learn from one another and the tutor to develop their understanding. A student loan may be available for this course. Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Level 4) Mon 18:00-21:00 18/09/ CUSTOMER SERVICE Customer Service Introduction This course provides a basic introduction to Customer Service and will be helpful to those who are using, or are going to work in a customer service role. You will explore different roles where customer service is used, the terminology and commonalities, such as dealing with customer complaints and going the extra mile. Customer Service Introduction Thu 09:30-13:00 21/09/ Award for Introduction to Customer Service L1 This course provides learners with a more in-depth overview of customer service. You will prepare for further training within a chosen occupational area/s and gain knowledge and insight into the needs of customer service within this area. The course covers basic skills such as spelling, grammar and composing sentences. It is a relaxed course with emphasis on supportive learning. Help with Reading and Writing Tue 19:00-21:00 19/09/17 10 Free English Functional Skills (Level 1 and 2) This course is for adults who wish to improve their reading and writing and gain confidence in formal speaking situations. Our friendly tutors will help you improve your grammar, punctuation, spelling of complex words and will enhance your letter writing, form filling and more. Presentation and speaking skills are also developed to build confidence, leading to a nationally recognised certificate and is free for eligible UK/EU residents. Classes take place twice a week and this is a more supportive, slower-paced course than GCSE, with re-sit opportunities if needed. Enrolment by assessment. On this condensed course you will study a range of language mediums and explore how language is used to achieve particular effects. The course works at a very fast pace to prepare you for the exam, so regular attendance and homework is essential. You will need to do 3 hours of study outside of the classroom per week and attend some additional workshops. Free if you don t have GCSE English grade C or above. 7 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) These English classes are for adults whose first language is not English. We offer daytime and evening courses for complete beginners to advanced students. Our experienced tutors will help students improve their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. The course will cover a range of topics in addition to learning more about life in the UK. Each course has two classes per week for 18 weeks and all students will work towards a nationally recognised qualification. The fee is 280 ( 416 non EU), which includes exam and materials fees. Students in receipt of income-related benefits may be entitled to fee remission. ESOL enrolment sessions: Monday 11th September at 6pm or Wednesday 13th September at 1.30pm Please bring along previous certificates in English or ESOL Enrolment will take approximately 1 hour. 8 MATHS Maths Functional Skills (Level 1 and 2) Learn more about functional mathematics to help at work or in everyday life. The course works towards a nationally recognised qualification and prepares you for GCSE standard. The qualification will look good on your CV and you ll become more confident in working with numbers and real life maths problems. This course is a slower-paced and more supportive course than the Maths GCSE, with opportunities to re-sit exams if needed. It is a condensed, linear course with the examinations at the end of the course and works at a very fast pace so regular attendance and homework is essential. In addition to the classes you will need to do 3 hours of study outside of the lesson and attend occasional workshops. Free if you don t have GCSE Maths grade C or above. Maths GCSE Wed 18:30-21:00 20/09/ or Free Maths GCSE Fri 09:30-12:00 22/09/ or Free PHOTOGRAPHY Digital Photography SLR for Beginners This course offers an introduction to the Digital SLR camera and the basic concepts, terminology and techniques involved in photography. Both theoretical and practical, the course is a good introduction to photography and to progress to qualification level. All students will need to bring their own Digital SLR camera with user instructions. Digital Photography SLR for Beginners Mon 18:30-20:30 18/09/ Photography (Level 1) Award This course is an ideal progression from the Digital SLR Introduction course. Students will develop a set of practical skills using their own digital SLR camera, explore techniques, photographic equipment and materials. There is also a theoretical approach and students will undertake research into the work of photographers. Photography Level 1 Award Wed 18:30-21:00 20/09/ Photoshop Introduction This course will cover basic Photoshop features and concepts to enable you to use the program effectively. You will learn how to open files and scan images, move around images using navigation tools, understand basic imaging concepts, do basic image editing, and prepare images for print and online presentations. The course will be taught using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop Introduction Tue 19:00-21:00 03/10/ SCIENCE Biology GCSE The Biology GCSE (9-1) covers the new GCSE specification. The GCSE requires students to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of working scientifically and will include a number of compulsory partials. 9 SOCIOLOGY Sociology GCSE From this course you will develop a wide range of knowledge and understanding about society, and how sociologists study and understand its structures, processes and issues. This is a fast paced GCSE, which ends in examinations based on selected topic areas. Sociology GCSE Fri 12:15-14:45 22/09/ or Free SUPPORTED LEARNING Supported Learning This course is designed to help people with learning disabilities develop skills for independent living and employment. Units will include computing, literacy and life skills. Students work towards a portfolio based qualification and will gain new skills. Progression Certificate Tue 09:30-15:30 19/09/17 30 Free TEACHING, TEACHING ASSISTANTS AND SUPPORTING CHILDREN Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools This course is ideal if you want to be a Teaching Assistant or work at a school. It is suitable for people who have some experience of working with children and wish to achieve a qualification in this area. You will study one day a week, and will also need to find and complete a placement in a school. Assessment is assignment based with some observations in your placement. All students on this course will need to complete a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check through their placement. Students must be working in a paid, Level 3, school role and must complete work duties without supervision. Government loans are available for people who are aged 19 and over and studying an eligible Level 3 or 4 course (courses are marked ) L The loans are not means tested and don t take credit history into account You must be a UK or EU/EAA resident and have lived in the UK for three years prior to the course start date Small affordable repayments when you are earning over 21,000 a year Please complete an enrolment form to enrol and inform a member of the Adult Learning Team at the time of enrolment that you will be applying for a loan. 12 Fees The fees shown for each course are for UK/EU residents and different fees may apply for overseas students. Fees for courses lasting more than one term may be paid in two instalments during the first term. All course fees are correct at the time of printing. Funded courses are for adults aged 19 or over. Our Funding your Course guide will be available on our webpage for more information on financing your studies. Payments for course fees will be processed on receipt, or at the time the class becomes viable, and fees will only be refunded if the course is cancelled or moved to a date, time or venue that you are unable to attend. See page 1 for Earlybird discount. Concessions For people receiving income-related state benefits there may be no fees for courses marked. Please contact the College for more details. Students who are not in receipt of benefits but have a low income can apply for a bursary to assist with the payment of fees, books or travel for courses marked.
