1 Procter R Hug High School Washoe County School District 2880 Sutro Street Lauren Ford, Principal Reno, NV Grade Levels: Ph: , Fax: Website: School Accountability Report For more information visit Mission Statement The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century. Principal's Highlights Since 2010 Hug High School has seen a 15% graduation increase due to the hard work of students, parents and staff. Hug met and exceed all accountability goals set for the 2012 school year. Hug HS has the largest JROTC enrollment in the WCSD with over 264 cadets. Hug HS JROTC graduates 90% of its seniors. Hug's JROTC program earned its Honor Unit with Distinction ranking for the school year. We have a Health Science Academy in partnership with the University Of Nevada School of Medicine. Janet Roberts National Board Certified Teacher won the NNCSS teacher of the year. Janet is, one of the 6 WCSD teachers in, Teaching the Core Project. Kelly VanHorne was nominated for the National Life Changer of the Year Award. She has been teaching at Hug for 21 years. Hug s MESA team took 6th place at the State competition out of a total of 16 teams competing. Hug's HSA students won the gold medal at the state HOSA conference. The gold medal is only awarded to one school. HHS senior Katie Harrison was named the Nevada Youth of the year by the Boys & Girls Club of America. Goals and Objectives Goal 1 Increase the graduation rate. Objective(s): Increase the graduation rate by 6% to 65% for the 2013 cohort. Goal 2 Increase the 9th and 10th Grade Credit Attainment. Objective(s): Increase the number of 9th and 10th grade students credit attainment by 5% to 89%. Goal 3 Increase Academic achievement in ELA, Math and Science. Objective(s): Increase the first time HSPE pass rate by 5% to 50% in Math, 51% in Science and 46% in Reading. School Communication Efforts Hosts the Parent University classes offered by the WCSD throughout the school year. Hosts parent information nights for FASFA, graduation, AP HSA and others. Hug has Spanish and English classes offered through TMCC. Hosts an Open house at the start of the school year that is designed to inform parents about requirements at each grade level. JROTC promotion night, fundraising events are conducted by JROTC cadets throughout the year for the community.
