13 What Does Athletic Clearance Mean? The school needs to make sure every athlete is cleared to participate in a sport. Doctor s physical and health insurance is required Athletic clearance is now on-line Must turn in to athletic clearance form to Mr. Wilson Athletic Director after school in #1836 Clearance may only take place right before each season

15 Graduation Requirements 4 Years of English 4 Years of Social Studies (World Geography/Support, World History, US History, Government and Economics) 3 Years of Math (Completion of Integrated Math I,II & III) 2 Years of Science (Biology + Chemistry/Physics/Earth) 2 Years of PE 1 Year of Visual Performing Art 2 Years of World Language or 1 year WL + 1 year CTE 1 Semester of Health 7 Semester Electives Includes a-g requirements for admission to UC and CSU systems

20 4 Year Plan Meeting Develop a plan to meet graduation & A-G requirements along with career & personal interest courses Every 9 th grader will complete a tentative 4 year plan through a guided classroom presentation provided by the counselors

21 Successful High School Students Complete at least 45 minutes of homework each evening Study for at least 45 minutes each evening Keep a daily planner & stay organized Sleep 8-9 hours Are involved in extra-curricular activities

22 Schedule Questions First choice electives are not always available All 9th grade students must have 8 classes Students can request schedule changes in first week of school Requested elective changes are not guaranteed Schedule changes at the beginning of the year will be done due to balancing and changes in the master schedule

24 Academic Supports Tutoring: Teacher provided extra help in academic subjects; After School Program Support Classes: Students may be assigned, based on test scores &/or grades. Prep for Success and PowerThinking IEPs: Support for Special Ed. Students. May include Co-Teaching, Study Skills classes. AVID: Teaches skills needed for high school success & college admission

25 I.E.P.s and 504 s If your student had a 504 or an IEP from middle school, the services will continue into high school. Make sure to inform the Assistant Principal if your son/daughter has a 504 plan For students with an IEP, the new case carrier will be in contact with you within the first 3 weeks of school.

27 STUDENT LED CONFERENCES To help Chula Vista High to achieve its mission, all 9 th graders will prepare a portfolio and present at a student led conference at the end of February, Student s parent/guardian will attend Required activity for all 9 th graders
