Pull forward and drop students off by the stone tables. Thank you for your cooperation. Fantastic Fall STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES VC DUAL ENROLLMENT classes offered on the ECHS campus! ECHS only students with a VC professor. Check with Ms. Harper or Ms. Napora to see which classes are available. COMMUNITY SERVICE THROUGH CITY CORP: flexible scheduling, learn leadership skills, help out in the Ventura community, wide variety of projects. 5 to 10 credits a semester. See Ms. Harper for more information. PRE-ENGINEERING INTERNSHIP: held on Tuesday afternoons at the Naval Base in Port Hueneme. Seniors will have first priority. 5 credits. See Ms. Napora or Ms. Harper for more information. Career Technical Education Classes: Vocational classes open to all 11 th and 12 th grade students on a first-come basis. A few examples include: Auto Body, Construction, Dental Assistant, Graphic Design, Information Technology, and many more! See Ms. Napora or Ms. Harper for details. CAPS MEDIA STUDIO INTERNSHIP: held at the CAPS studio next door to the ECHS campus. This is a great opportunity for students interested in television, graphics, or journalism. Seniors will have first priority. See Ms. Napora for more info. 5 credits. WORK EXPERIENCE: If you hold a job, you could be earning work experience credits. Talk to your teacher about signing up for this great class. 5 to 10 credits per semester. COMMUNITY SERVICE at various elementary and middle schools throughout the county. Work in a classroom setting with students and assist teachers with classroom activities. 5 credits. COMMUNITY SERVICE with a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. See your teacher for more information. 5 credits. DESIGN YOUR OWN internship or community service. Talk to your teacher if there is something you have in mind. It must be approved. INTRO TO STUDIO ART with local artist MB Hannrahan. This is a class that meets weekly for instruction with additional work then done at home. For college prep credit, you will have additional assignments to complete and will need to take this class both Fall and Spring Semesters. Let your teacher know if you are interested. Limited to 30 students. Fall semester starts September 7 th. Please Help! We need donations of $5.00 gift cards for our Renaissance Student Recognition Program. Examples include: Starbucks, Target, Taco Bell, Jamba Juice, Snapper Jacks, Subway, and Blenders just to name a few that our student s enjoy. Students are recognized weekly for academic accomplishments, community service and good deeds. California Scholarship Federation, or CSF, seeks to recognize students who possess high standards in academic scholarship, community service and citizenship. Students can pick up a CSF application from their ECHS teacher. CSF Applications must be turned in on time. The application window is September (9/11-9/22) Please turn your application in to Mrs. Peters or in the office. WASC Review Outcome ACS WASC accreditation is a process schools use to monitor student learning and set school improvement goals. ACS WASC accreditation is an ongoing cycle of quality. Schools assess their program and the impact on student learning with respect to the ACS WASC criteria and other accreditation factors. Every six years,* accredited schools conduct a self-study and host a self-study visit. The self-study process culminates in the refinement of a schoolwide action plan. Throughout the accreditation cycle, schools are expected to address the schoolwide action plan and demonstrate evidence of acceptable student achievement and school improvement. ECHS had a WASC accreditation visit February 27 th March 1 st of last school year. ECHS earned a six-year accreditation through June of 2023! Congratulations to the ECHS staff, students and school community for this outstanding achievement!

Meet with your high school counselor to make sure you are on track and taking the college preparatory classes needed for CSU and/or UC admission. This is done with VC registration each semester. Aim for A and B grades in all of your classes. Focus on your class work and your homework to develop the study skills you will need to succeed in college and career. Try to earn A and B grades in all your classes. Studying hard in high school will help prepare you for college coursework. Make sure you are taking courses that satisfy CSU and UC college admission requirements. See A G planner for specifics. Meet with your high school counselor to make sure you are on track and taking the college preparatory classes needed for CSU and/or UC admission and to devise a plan to redo any course in which you received a less than a C grade. Attend College and University Night programs and meet with campus outreach representatives at VC s college fairs. The National College Fair is in April at the Ventura Fairgrounds Visit college campuses. Take a campus tour and listen to presentations about academic programs, admission requirements, and financial aid. Bring your student transcripts listing courses completed since the 9th grade. Maintain A and B grades. This is especially important during the junior year. In addition to your focus on your schoolwork, you will now need to take a series of preparatory examinations. In October register for the PSAT (Preliminary SAT), a practice exam for the SAT, which is required for several national scholarships, such as the National Merit, National Achievement, and the National Hispanic Scholarship programs. Take the PSAT and use the results to see where you are strong and where you need to improve in order to be ready for college. If you are taking Advanced Placement subjects, register to take the AP exams in the spring. Scoring well will give you credit for college-level courses! Begin thinking about when to take college entrance exams (SAT or ACT). Check to see if the schools you want to attend require SAT subject tests as well. If you take the exam in the spring or summer, you will receive the results in time to determine if you need to retake the test in the fall. Prepare for the SAT or ACT by reviewing books with testing tips and sample questions. These can be found in bookstores, libraries, and schools, or accessed on the internet. Attend a workshop on how to prepare for these entrance exams. Financial aid may be available for some workshops or for the test fee. Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse if you plan on being a college athlete. Check the NCAA website and attend the NCAA workshops available at VHS to make sure you are on track. Take advanced math and college-prep English. Consider taking advanced science and language courses too. Make sure you are taking courses that satisfy all CSU and UC college admission requirements. See A G planner for specifics. Review your class schedule with your counselor to ensure that you are meeting all of your college preparatory requirements. Make an appointment for a final grad check if you haven t already done so. Update your High School Course Planner with completed 11th grade classes and your current 12th grade classes. Apply for FAFSA in October. FAFSA will now use tax returns from two years prior so you don t have to wait for this year s taxes! This is required for all post high school programs including universities, community colleges and Vocational Schools. FAFSA is required for the VC Promise! Apply for colleges/universities/vocational schools. Watch deadlines for your particular schools of choice. Let us know when you finalize your college plans. Apply for as many scholarships as possible. Let us know when you receive one!

Juniors - Important College Dates to Remember February 20 April 17 College Jumpstart for Juniors ECHS Room 1 6:00 7:30 PM National College Fair Ventura Fairgrounds Changes to the FAFSA Process SUBMIT A FAFSA EARLIER: Students will be able to submit a FAFSA as early as Oct. 1, 2017, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit their FAFSAs as early as October 1 every year. USE EARLIER INCOME AND TAX INFORMATION: Beginning with the FAFSA, students will be required to report income and tax information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2016 income and tax information, rather than their 2017 income and tax information.
