1 O HARA TOWNSHIP Chapter 6 - Educational Opportunities FOX CHAPEL AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT In the year 2000, O Hara Township residents comprised one third of enrollment in the Fox Chapel School District, one of the most diverse districts in the State from a socioeconomic standpoint, which includes Indiana and O Hara Townships and Fox Chapel, Blawnox, Aspinwall, and Sharpsburg Boroughs, and 84% of O Hara school age children attend classes in the School District. Other sources indicate the total enrollment for the school year is 4,581 (pde.state.pa.us/k12statistics and or 4,582 (ies National Center for Education Statistics). The difference between these totals is one-quarter of one percent (.25%), making the differences statistically insignificant. The assumption of decreased enrollment, however, should be considered in light of the fact that migration data are not emphasized within school district enrollment projections, meaning that decreased birth rates artificially deflate enrollment figures as younger families attracted to the Fox Chapel School District are increasing or stabilizing enrollment. While enrollment will eventually level off or decline, past figures above and those projections in Chapter 3 indicate continued increases through the foreseeable future.
