1 1 VES College of Arts, Science & Commerce Department of Computer Science Highlights of Placements On 30 th December, students of TY attended interviews at KARROX consisting of aptitude tests and interview rounds. On 11 th Jan 2014, Wipro conducted joint campus placement in S M Shetty College, Powai. TY students of our department attended the same and three of them (Nutan, Rizwan and Greeshma) got selected. They had to clear the aptitude test, group discussion and HR interviews. On 14 th Jan 2014, igate conducted joint campus placement in Usha Praveen Gandhi College of Managment, Vile Parle. TY students of our department attended the same and three of them got selected. They had to clear the aptitude test, technical and HR interviews. Ms Shruti Chowdhary of TY Comp Sci got selected in the final round. 5 Students of TYComp Sci had gone for Placement of TCS at TCS,Thane(Pokhran Road) on 14 th & 16 th Feb Their results are awaited. Some students of TYBSc Comp Sci had gone for placement of Wipro at Thakur College on 16 th April of them cleared the initial rounds and their final result is awaited. Students attended placement drive of Infosys at Thakur College in May and 2 students got selected. Research & Publications Ms. Bhakti Sakore an SYBSc Student presented a paper in National Conference Research in IT organized by Patkar College, Goregaon on 30 th August The topic of the paper was Design and Reasearch on Speed Control system by Intelligent Systems. Ms. Madhavi Vaidya published a review paper as a part of PhD titled Critical Study of Hadoop Implementation and Performance Issues in Research in IT Exploring the Technology Horizon by Pakar college on 31 st August 2013.

2 Department of Computer Science registered for the membership of ACM Mumbai Chapter in the name of one student. Mr. Kamlakar published a book in January 2014 titled Database Design for Projects with ISBN number ISBN: The book has been published by Vipul Prakashan. An inter-collegiate technical event of our department called Vihaan 14 was conducted on 15 th Feb 2014 where students from various colleges participated for events like Paper, Poster and Project presentation. The keynote session was given on Android. Students from our department participated. Mr. Bhargav Adusumalli & Ms. Bhakti Sakore from SY Comp Sci won the 2 nd & 3 rd prize respectively in Paper Presentation event. Ms. Heena Choudhari & Ms. Jigisha Baria of TY got the 1 st prize, Mr. Bhargav from SY got the 2 nd prize and Ms. Bhakti from SY got the 3 rd prize in poster presentation. On 20 th Feb 2014, two groups of TYBSc Comp Sci presented research papers in International Case Study Conference held at IES Management College & Research Center. Ms Jigisha Baria and Ms. Heena Choudhari presented a paper titled Impact of Social Engineering on Business 2 On 21 st and 22 nd March 2014, Ms. Madhavi Vaidya presented a research paper titled Large Data Comparatvie Analytics at ICCI 14, International Conference conducted by University of Mumbai. Faculty Activities Ms. Madhavi Vaidya published a paper titled MapReduce Framework : Analysis & Research Perspectives in National conference at Nagpur G.H.RAISONI College of Engineering on 19 th & 20 th Oct On 13 th Jan 2014, Dr Alark Joshi's from the University of San Francisco, USA was invited to give lecture on education in universities of abroad. It was conducted for all Comp Sc and Third Year IT students. He talked about research opportunities in Image

3 processing and mobiles apps and also shared the information about various courses available in their University. 3 Seminars and Workshops On 10 th August 2013, Karrox conducted a seminar on Android Operating System which was attended by the students of FY, SY & TY Computer Science students. Jetking presented a seminar on Career in Networking for the students FY, SY & TYBSc Computer Science/IT students on 30 th Oct On 19 th Dec 2013, Mr. Manoranjan Gupta from CDAC- Chembur conducted a seminar on Career in Testing for the students of FY, SY & TYBSc Computer Science. Mr. Amit Chaurasia, Ex-student of TYIT was called on 22 nd Jan 2014 to give a session on JQuery topic for the students of TY Comp Sci. This topic would help them to do their projects in a better manner. Prof Athawale from VES College of Law took a session on Cyber law and Cyber crime on 8 th Feb 2014 for the students of FY, SY & TY Comp Sci. She gave a point of view of Law about various aspects of cyber crime. On 16 th April 2014, a free workshop on Android was conducted in association with Eduonix from 11 am to 4 pm. 25 students from SY and 4 students from KC College attended the workshop. The workshop was conducted to give introduction to Android Development and various software used to do the same.

4 4 Student Activities Mr. Soumik Chattopadhyay from TYCS alongwith other group members won the 1st prize with a trophy in University's Youth Festival Quiz Competition which was held in They received the prize on 24 th June students of TYBSc students took a session on credit based system for the students of FYBSc students on 19 th Juy On 27/08/13 and 30/08/13, students from SYBSc Comp Sci (Chetan, Ashutosh and Laxman) conducted a Hardware Seminar for the FY students. The objective of the session was to introduce FY students with various hardware components and it s working. Students from Comp. Sci. participated in intercollegiate event called Sagacity of Department of IT which was conducted on 6 th & 7 th Sept 2013 and won various prizes. Best College Trophy was also won by our students along-with other students. 7 students from FY & SY participated in English speaking course conducted by Prof Dipta Dasgupta from 11 th Oct 13. Students of SYBSc conducted Group Discussions and Mock Interviews of FYBSc students and also gave the result of their performance. This activity was conducted from 26 th Oct 2013 to 28 th Oct Students of SY(Shivraj, Chetan & Bhargav) got an opportunity to learn & work in HBSC (Homi Bhabha Science Center) under the guidance of Dr. Nagarjuna from 30 th Oct to 20 th Nov In annual sports day of our college conducted from 3 rd Dec to 5 th Dec 2013, SY Comp Sci students participated and won various prizes for example SY won a gold medal for Football. Students of TY Comp Sci participated in annual college event called Talentia which was conducted on 21 st and 22 nd Dec 2013 and won various prizes such as TY won 1 st prize for Skit and 3 rd prize for Dumsharads. SY Student Bhargav participated in mega event of Scrabble which was conducted by igate at national level in the month of December. He was selected for the final round. Students of SY under ACP did social service at NASEOH from 26 th Dec to 30 th Dec On 4 th Jan 2014, Ms. Mitali Deshpande, our Ex- student trained the students of FY Comp Sci and SY Comp Sci for doing PR for our event VIHAAN. Ms. Mitali and Ms. Shital, our ex-students of last year demonstrated their projects to SY and TY Comp Sci students on 17 th Jan 2014 On 18 th Jan 2014, Mr. Bhargav and Mr. Shivraj of SYComp Sci won 1 st prize in Math Quiz of inter-collegiate technical event called Mathemight of Department of Mathematics. Students from FY Comp Sci, SY Comp Sci and TY Comp Sci took part in Book review and four of them got selected. Ms. Mayuri from Ty won 2 nd prize in Marathi book review. Ms. Akshada from SY Comp Sci won the consolation prize for English book

5 review. Mr. Harmit from FY Comp Sci won the 1 st prize in English book review. The competition was conducted on 25 th Jan An inter-collegiate technical event of our department called Vihaan 14 was conducted on 15 th Feb 2014 where students from various colleges participated for events like Paper, Poster and Project presentation. Mr. Rizwan Sayyed of TY Comp Sci bagged the 2 nd prize in Project competition event. 5 Alumni Activities Ms. Sneha Hariharan conducted a session for SY student on personality development on 28 th June She covered various aspects such as group discussions, personal interviews & English communication. The Ex-Student, Ms. Natasha Patil was invited on 6 th July 2013 to conduct a resume building session for SY and TY Comp Sci students. The Ex-Student, Ms. Sneha Hariharan continued her sessions on soft skill development on 6 th July 2013 for the students of SY. In this session, she mainly focused on interviewing techniques. On 15 th Oct 2013, Ms. Meghana Petkar, our alumni student and now working as GM at 9x Pvt Ltd Channel, conducted a session for the students of FY & SY Comp Sci on various career paths.

6 Ms Heena Kousar, an ex-student and visiting faculty was invited to conduct a crash course in Dot Net for SY Comp Sci student from 16 th Oct to 19 th Oct On 29 th March 2014, Mr Nilesh Bhoite alumni of department of Computer sc and working as Asst.General Mangager HR of L Oreal Research and Innovation India for FYBSc and SYBSc Computer Sc students from 10 am to 12 pm. Around 61 students attended the same. On 29 th March 2014, Mr Akhilesh Vyawahare, working as a DBA at LnT and Mr Balakrishna Joshi, alumni of Dept of CompSc and working Embedded Software Engineer at CMS. Around 24 students of SYBSc Comp Sc attended the same Add-on Courses From 20 th Oct to 23 rd Oct 2013, MongoDB Workshop as an ADD-ON Course was conducted by some of our students working as interns in BARC for our TY, SY and FY students. 29 students participated in the workshop. 6
