3 Group Study Exchange What Is Group Study Exchange? Group Study Exchange is an educational program of The Rotary Foundation wherein Rotary districts in different countries are paired to send and receive professional study groups of non-rotarian team members and one Rotarian team leader to travel for four to six weeks, staying in the homes of Rotarians when possible. A traditional GSE team consists of four team members plus a Rotarian team leader. Goals and Objectives The Group Study Exchange program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women in their initial years of professional life. The program is designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults so that they can address the needs of their communities and an increasingly global workplace. GSE offers Rotarians the opportunity to participate in sending, receiving, and sharing educational experiences of study teams that will enhance Rotary s worldwide mission. 2

5 Note from the District Governor Rose Austin, District 5910 Howdy to our team from District 1930: On behalf of District 5910, I extend a heartfelt welcome to our district and to southeast Texas. You have arrived at a beautiful time of the year when the weather is at its best, the flowers are in bloom, and outdoor activities are planned. Please enjoy the spring season. We look forward to meeting the vocational needs of the team while offering our grand Texas hospitality and showcasing the diverse culture within our district. Our diversity is expressed in the population, industry, and economy. We look forward to your visit to our clubs where each will display its own flavor of hospitality and offer unique learning opportunities. Each club has worked diligently in preparation for your visit, as the annual group study exchange visit is a time where the clubs go to great length to ensure that the team has the professional, cultural, and personal experience of a lifetime. Absorb all that you can, and have a grand time. Upon your return, please extend my warmest regards to Governor Christof Steimel and spouse, Gaby, whom my husband, Milton, and I enjoyed meeting in San Diego last year. Team Leader Manfred Grabsch Manfred lives in a small town in the Black Forest region of Germany, not too far away from Freiburg, close to the Swiss and the French border.

7 Team Leader Manfred Grabsch Manfred lives in a small town in the Black Forest region of Germany, not too far away from Freiburg, close to the Swiss and the French border. He is married to his wife Frauke Grabsch and has two children. His hobbies are sailing (Lake Constance), tennis and Rotary. Manfred graduated from the Gymnasium in 1961 and from Freiburg University in He studied English and Geography. He is now retired, but worked as a college professor of Geography. In Rotary, Manfred currently serves as the district Youth exchange officer, Chair of the ICC Germany Turkey. He was also a Past District Governor serving in

8 Team Member - Theresia Weißer Theresia lives in Germany with her fiancé and is getting married later this year. In her spare time she is involved as a volunteer in environmental protection and accepted a sponsor for a portion of a creek and the care for a flood detention basin. She loves working in her garden and going hiking. Theresia studied industrial engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Albstadt- Sigmaringen. For the last 6 years she has been working at the Hammerwerk Fridingen GmbH in the field of environmental and quality management. The Hammerwerk Fridingen GmbH is a medium-sized company and manufactures drop forged components and hot pressed parts. 7

Team Member Barbara Klump Barbara has a Master of Science in Biologymajor in zoology (focus on animal behavior), minors in molecular biology, developmental psychology and ecology, University of

9 Team Member Barbara Klump Barbara has a Master of Science in Biologymajor in zoology (focus on animal behavior), minors in molecular biology, developmental psychology and ecology, University of Heidelberg, University of Copenhagen ( ) Barbara is a scientific trainee in the educational department at the State Museum of Natural History in Karlsruhe. Her work includes conceptual design, organization and realization of guided tours, children programs, and scientific experiments for children. She is also involved in the conceptual design of new exhibitions, promotion days and holiday programs. Her hobbies include swimming (licensed lifeguard), music (choir, clarinet and saxophone), traveling, and extensive youth volunteer work. 8

10 Team Member Christian Suhr Christian works as a Product Manager with responsibility for engineering projects of automotive parts. His main area of focus is seat fastening and load restraint systems for Mercedes-Benz vans. He attended the University of Stuttgart and has a Masters in mechanical engineering. Majors: Metal forming and technology management. In 2004 he worked as an intern in the USA for Alcan Automotive, Detroit MI within the startup of the new plant. Christian volunteers with the auxiliary fire brigade. He also enjoys spending his free time on a boat water skiing and riding motorcycles. He lives with his girlfriend Andrea and her 3 ½ year old daughter Fiona. 9

Team Member Peter Eiswirt Peter was born in Kazakhstan (former USSR) and moved to Germany at the age of 7. He grew up in Ravensburg in South Germany near Lake Constance.

11 Team Member Peter Eiswirt Peter was born in Kazakhstan (former USSR) and moved to Germany at the age of 7. He grew up in Ravensburg in South Germany near Lake Constance. He has a Master of Arts in Politics & Management from the University of Constance. Peter works as a marketing manager and assistant to the president of a machine tool manufacturer. He is responsible for advertisements, corporate design, public relations, website, support of US office, statistics, and sales support. Peter is very active in sports and enjoys squash, tennis, soccer and jogging. When he has time he enjoys traveling. 10
