1 Introduction The curriculum is organized into several broad categories described below. This is to give you a general idea on the subjects that are taught. Each student should strive to master their grade s objectives so that they can advance to the next grade. Curriculum Organization Reading In all grades, students will be required to be proficient in the reader for their specific grade. Writing In all grades, students will be required to be proficient in the writing for their specific grade. Conversation Conversation is taught in the following three basic levels. They are: -Level I Conversation: Memorize conversations with little variance in the question and answers. Ex: όσων ώ ί ί έ ώ Ex: ώ ί ή ή ί ό Level II Conversation: Conversations in which the form or structure can be memorized, but can be answered several different ways. The conversation can usually be answered in one sentence. Ex: ύ ί ν ή ώ ί
2 -Level III Conversation: Extended and more complex conversations that usually require more than one sentence to respond. Ex: ά ί ώ Grammar In all grades, students are required to be proficient in the grammar that is structured for their grade. Vocabulary This section includes letters, sounds, spelling and definitions. All students are required to master the vocabulary level that is required for their grade. Numbers/Time Geography Identify Greece on a map. Recognize the borders of Greece and Europe. History/Culture Students will know family roots in Greece. Exposure to Ancient Greek history as well reviewing major points in history. Memorize songs, hymns and poems required for their grade. Religion Memorize the Lord s Prayer Memorize the Creed

Vocabulary The articles must be emphasized with the vocabulary Days of the Week Months of the year Colors Clothing Fruits/Vegetables/Foods School Supplies Animals Simple action words All letters, sounds and sound combinations 6. Numbers/Time Numbers Geography Be able to find Greece on a map 8. History/Culture Know family roots in Greece National Anthem Traditional Greek Songs 9. Religion Exposure Pater Imon
5 First Grade Read First Grade reader fluently Write first and last name Write and comprehend simple sentences (copy sentences from worksheet Punctuation Level I Primary Conversation Classroom commands Students must identify themselves and where their family is from Personal pronouns Conjugate verbs (singular and plural persons) Singular possessive pronouns ( ) Singular articles ( ) Exposure to adjectives Definite article 5. Vocabulary Review and solidify all letters (out of order) and sounds Days of the Week/Months/Year/Seasons Transportation House items, room, etc. 6. Numbers/Time Numbers Geography Identify Greece on a map and where their family is from in conduction with the above conversation. 8. History/Culture Know family roots in Greece and be able to identify this in Greek Memorize songs, hymns and poems related to religious or ethnic holiday 12 Gods 9. Religion Continued exposure to Name Days
6 Second Grade Read Second Grade reader fluently Write complete and coherent sentences Correct sentence structure Exposure to compound sentences Write descriptive sentences with adjective Level I-Level II Primary Conversations Advanced classroom commands Personal pronouns Conjugate verbs in present tense in Groups 1-4 Possessive pronouns, μου του σου Simple adjectives, opposite adjectives Genders ο, η, το in present and plural Definite and indefinite articles 5. Vocabulary Times of the day (morning, evening, etc.) Weather Associate dates with holidays (name days, feast days, etc.) 6. Numbers/Time Numbers Exposure to Ordinal numbers 1-10 Tell basic time (hour and half hour) 7. Geography Identify Greece on a map and the main regions of Greece 8. History/Culture Personal heritage/culture (how and when family arrived in US, etc.) Memorize various hymns, poems, songs related to religious or ethnic holiday 12 Gods Mythology 9. Religion Memorize Lessons in Greek on important religious holidays (name day project, Christmas, Easter)

Vocabulary Vocabulary as directed in reader and through conversation Dictionary work 6. Numbers/Time Numbers 1-1,000,000 Prices Telling time 7. Geography Islands, seas, main cities of Greece 8. History/Culture Focus on Independence Day (reason for the revolution, heroes, the aftermath) including songs, poems hymns related to event Modern Greek History 1821 and later 9. Religion Read the Creed in Greek
9 Fifth Grade Read the Fifth Grade reader fluently Write a simple essay of 1-2 paragraphs in three verb tenses Level II Intermediate Conversation Irregular verbs ( Review of present, simple past, future simple tenses Exposure to perfect and past perfect tenses ( Adverbs Vocabulary related to Dictionary and Conversations 5. Numbers/Time All numbers Tell time fluently and incorporate it in sentences 6. Geography Athens, Thessaloniki, Dodecanese 7. History/Culture Focus on October 28 th holiday including songs, poems, hymns related to ethnic event Reinforce March 25 th 8. Religion Creed in Greek Name Days Review baptism
