1 Seton Notes December 6, MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Mrs. Alestock Dear Parents, Happy St. Nicholas Day! Each of our students received a Clementine orange today as we celebrated the Feast Day of St. Nicholas. Our narthex was bustling with activity as students shopped at the St. Nicholas Shop during the past three days. I know that you will love the special gifts that your child selected especially for you! The past week has been a prayerful one as the students, staff, and I have been preparing for the birth of Christ with meaningful Advent activities. The theme for this first week of Advent is Waiting. Each day we pray and sing together on the morning announcements as individual classrooms light their Advent wreaths. The hallways are decorated with lighted trees and purple bags or boxes decorated with our Advent themes. Today, several students joined me as I blessed the Nativity scene that is in front of our school. As you drive into our parking lot, or simply pass by on Stow Road, may you be reminded of the most important meaning of Christmas. With God s Blessings, Mrs. Alestock Blessing of the Nativity Waiting, Giving, Preparing for the Birth of Jesus

4 Please remember to contact me at any time during the year if you have photos and newsworthy items to share Please send photos as.jpg attachments (not in the body of an ). Click here to follow us on Facebook. FROM THE DEVELOPMENT OFFICE Mr. Bill Cushwa Director of Development (330) ext. 232 UNIQUE SCHOOL, UNIQUE CHALLENGES What an exciting time to be at Seton Catholic School! I am proud to be a part of all that is Seton while having the opportunity to observe your children learning, loving and serving on a daily basis. With so much excitement it becomes imperative not to lose our focus on less exciting matters; our everyday operations. An integral part of our operational budget is the Annual Fund. This annual appeal is necessary because Seton charges a tuition that is substantially less than the cost to educate your child. Some of you were able to support our annual gala benefit dinner and auction, A Night to Remember, and assist us in raising funds for school operations and the forthcoming classroom audio systems in a different environment, wrapped in a party. Our annual appeal takes us further along to providing a high quality education at an affordable price. The cost to educate each child this year is $1,000 more than what is charged for tuition. This is a simple fact regarding our operational budget and something all Catholic schools face each year. Yet, without a parish across our parking lot, second collections every now and then on Sundays, a congregation of empty nesters supporting the wishes of their pastor, or a big crop of alumni, Seton is unique. Bridging this gap is at the core of what allows Seton to blossom at a time of consolidations, mergers, and closings elsewhere. We trust you will look into your hearts and make a personal decision as to what your family can contribute. My prayers are with you, your family, and Seton Catholic School as we continue our journey this blessed time of year. Thank you! ANNUAL FUND: A TAPESTRY OF FAITH So why doesn t Seton simply charge the actual educational cost? To keep a Seton education within the reach of more families To provide our parents with a tax-deductible option Because we feel confident that extended family and friends of Seton will support us! How can you help us bridge the tuition gap? The most cost effective way to help us bridge the gap, keep our tuition as low as possible, and provide parents with the best tax-deduction option is to make an outright gift to our Annual Fund. Beyond your gift, you can share the Seton story! Be an advocate for broader Catholic community support of Seton! What if I can't afford to give the full "gap" of $1,000? Can I still participate? Yes! If every family gives what they can, we will reach our goal. Some are able to give the full $1,000 per student others can contribute more and others $750, $500, $250, or $100. Every gift counts and is important. Why is a gift to Annual Fund in anyone s best tax interest? Tuition, as you know, is not tax deductible. Contributions to Seton Catholic School s Annual Fund are fully tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
5 How can you double your gift to Annual Fund? Check with your employer to find out if yours is a matching gift company. If so, request the matching fund form and include it with your gift. Can I pay my contribution in installments? Yes, please contact Bill Cushwa to set up monthly or quarterly support, or complete the Annual Fund form and return to school. Thank you! When is the Annual Fund appeal? The annual fund appeal begins in the fall. Donors have until the end of our fiscal year June 30, 2013 to participate. YEAR-END ACCOUNTING All cash gifts to Seton are acknowledged with a letter from the school. Gifts made during the 2012 calendar year, will be summarized and prepared in a formal tax summary letter and mailed to donors prior to January 31, If you have any questions about this process, please contact Bill Cushwa at (330) , ext. 232 or by .
