2 Page 2 of 6 A Old Business 1.0 Review of February Minutes accepted B. Committees 1.0 PAC BBQ Committee: Met March 5 th. Discussed logistics. A family from the school has offered the use of their catering truck and Diana following up on the logistics of same. Still pricing out supplies needed including veggie dogs, buns, chips & drinks. For drinks Lucy will check into the cost of supplying chocolate & white milk from Dairyland. Another suggestion is to get drink mix from McDonalds and mix it up and serve from out Gatorade containers and have students bring own travel mugs. Diana to look into that. Peter said he thinks there is no cost for the mix from McDonalds. Next meeting is Tuesday, April 2 nd to be combined with PAC Meeting. 2.0 New School Committee: Still need funding to build the actual new school in south surrey. Bob brought a letter composed by the DPAC addressing the issues, which can be sent to government, local MLA s etc. This letter will be sent to all Surrey PACs. The hope is that each pack will run some type of campaign letter writing, petition Letter was discussed and Bob will tweak it to better explain to parents the urgent deadline/timeframe for the funding request. This big LAST CHANCE push needs to happen before the next provincial election. LAST CHANCE LETTER: The PAC will meet again on Tuesday, April 2 nd at 7 pm at EMS Library to complete the letter and organize when we will hand it out to parents. The plan is to hand it out to parents on a given day in mid April at both drop off and pick ups. Bob will try and ask the media to attend this event as well. The more exposure the better. Lucy will make courtesy calls to our elementary feeder school PACs. 3 Page 3 of 6 LAST CHANCE PETITION: We will have a petition that can be signed by parents at the same time as we distribute the letters. Bob is going to talk to Mark Fester (our online expert) to find out if we can get an online petition going as well to plead for funding the new school. It was suggested our PAC could attend the ALL CANDIDATES MEETING coming up for the provincial election to address our capital funding needs. A parent forum was also discussed. 3.0 Dry Grad Committee: Fashion Show Meeting March 7pm EMS Library Plant Sale coming soon 4.0 Treasurer s Report: The Junior Student Government requested to attend our April PAC meeting to ask if they could organize a Grade 8/9 dance. This request has already been denied by Peter Johnston. Peter said there are several other social activities coming up for the students including Change Revolution and the Talent Show. It was decided Terri would contact them and let them know they are welcome to make their presentation but we don t have the authority to change the Principal s decision. 5.0 DPAC: Attended Annual School Board meeting included various topics. DPAC s main agenda is the last push for capital funding for new schools. 6.0 CPF(Canadian Parents for French) CPF-Surrey chapter meeting: or apter. French Café: A monthly social meeting for Grade 8 to 12 students to promote conversational French. No meeting this month due to Spring Break. A regular meeting will be held in April. Grants & Funding: CPF has received the government grants & funding requested for immersion school libraries. They will be donating from these funds $500 to late immersion school libraries and $1,000 to secondary immersion school libraries. All monies goes to French related books, DVD s, learning tools etc. Speech Fesitval : April EMS Provincials on May 4 th at SFU. Nationals to follow in Ottawa. Note that students who get to Nationals have the opportunity to win up to a $20,000 scholarship. D. CPF French Awards Final Deadline April 5 There are two awards for Earl Marriott students. Criteria is the student must be going to attend a post-secondary institution or going to a job in French. Principal s Report 1.0 School Speakers: Mind Check mental health presentation by Fraser Health and sponsored by the Vancouver Canucks in memory of Rick Ripen was presented to the Grades 10, 11 and 12 s. Students were very engaged. Canucks President of Communications was also there. 2.0 Parent Teacher Interviews: to be held Wednesday, April 10th 3.0 Interim Report Cards: To be distributed Wednesday, March Locker Cleanup: Thursday, March EMS Basketball: Grade 9 boys team went all the way to Wild Card Provincials. 5 Page 5 of School Trips Abroad: Currently trips planned to Japan(rugby), Peru, Costa Rica and Spain this year. 7.0 School Play: The Sewart of Two Masters a shakespearian musical comedy to be presented at the Wheelhouse Theatre on Aprl 23, 24, 25 26, & 27. Tickets on sale April 8 at Wheelhouse box office (604) Tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for students. 8.0 Grade 10 Prom: May 22 at the Pacific Inn (Pink Palace) from 6:30 10 pm. For Grade 10 s only 9.0 EMS Pow Wow: To be held April 5 though 7 th 9.0 Japan (rugby) Sushi Fundraiser: Went well. E.
