Internships/Traineeships (stages) in the EU institutions, agencies, bodies Permanent posts in the EU institutions Internships/Stages D.C. = internships > intern, Brussels = stage > stagiaires All EU institutions and bodies offer them Usually 5 months in length, some longer, some shorter Each institution has dff different criteria Some paid, some unpaid Invaluable hands on experience of EU business A stage is well viewed on a CV; can be harder to get a job in Brussels without a stage 3 4 Two stages per year, summer (March July) & winter (Oct February) Administrative & translation stages 5 months Paid 1,070 ish a month 15,000 applications for 1,200 positions 600 per session Requirements Completed your BA/BSc studies and be under 31 No previous EU traineeship/employment for more than 6 weeks Need good working knowledge of English and another EU language (Irish can be your other EU language) Translation must be able to translate into your main language from two other EU official languages 5 6 1

Lobby organigrams Irish names don t be shy! 7 8 European Parliament Stage The Schumann scholarship = paid traineeships for both general and journalism streams Two intakes starting 1 March (apply 15 August 15 October) and 1 October (apply 15 March 15 May) Graduate in summer 2012, apply for March 2013 stage To satisfy the conditions for admission to a paid traineeship candidates must, before the deadline for applications, have obtained an undergrad university degree. 4 Application Process Are you eligible? All online through The Process Online application form First stage: Computer based tests Second stage: Assessment centre in Brussels for successful first stage candidates Citizen of a Member State of the European Union Entitled to full rights as such a citizen Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the laws on military service Have a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the EU and a satisfactory knowledge of a second. Irish is an official language The language thing The main language (usually your mother tongue) is referred to as language 1 in the online registration form You should have a satisfactory knowledge of your second language Most of the tests at the Assessment centre will also be in your second language. It must be different from your main language and must be English, French or German The language thing Second stage must be English, French or German If English in first stage need to do French or Germanin second stage If English in second stage you need to do first stage in Irish, French, German, Spanish, Italian Or Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovene, or Swedish Psychometric Tests Ticking boxes The psychometric tests in the first stage of assessment will be offered in all 23 official EU languages g 4 tests: Verbal, Numerical, Abstract, Situational Judgement tests Verbal, Numerical & Abstract = 50% Situational Judgement = 50%
