A Aukai Gonsalves Winona Whitman Hawaiians, American Indians, or native Alaskans (18 years or older) who are unemployed seven consecutive days, underemployed or economically disadvantaged Workplace (on-the-job training) 9 th grade through adult Classes, on-the-job training Monday-Friday: 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m. Classroom training, on-the-job training, community service employment, and work experience programs prepare unskilled adults for entry into the labor force. Job training is afforded to those economically disadvantaged individuals and others facing serious barriers to employment who are in special need of training to obtain productive employment.

UHCC Native Hawaiian Vocational (808) Education Project (808) Kauai Community College Kaumualii Highway Native Hawaiians and enrolled in a community college Reading, Writing, Math, Workplace (pre-employment and on-thejob training) Community College Tutoring, classes, computer lab, counseling services Monday-Friday: 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. This project operates in partnership with the community college system to promote and provide educational support services to Native Hawaiian Vocational Education students enrolled in public community colleges.
4 43 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Kauai Community School for Adults (808) A Lala Road, P-12 Sanae Morita Adults, 18 years of age and over Reading, Writing, Math, Tutor Training, Parenting skills <3rd grade through 12 th grade, and GED Tutoring, Classes, small groups Time/ hours vary To assist adult learners to read and write, individual literacy instruction is tailored to meet the students needs. Adult students may request one-on-one tutoring in basic skills or ESL. Both tutor and student agree on site, time, and length of session. Classes are available in Adult Basic Education, GED, and competency-based programs. Services in the workplace and family literacy are also offered.
5 62 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY Kauai Community Correctional Center (808) Kuhio Highway John Shklov Individuals incarcerated at Kauai Community Correctional Center Reading, Writing, Math, English as a Second Language, Workplace (pre-employment and on-the-job training), Computer Skills, Tutor Training <3 rd grade through adult Tutoring, classes, computer lab Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. The Correctional Center provides educational services, which range from adult basic education through college, to the incarcerated adult population. The program includes vocational and pre-employment services. The goal is to provide inmates with basic life and work-related skills in order to get and retain employment upon release.

Activities at each site differ. Some schools offer enrichment experiences which focus on strengthening basic skills through Hawaiian cultural activities. Two high schools offer credit courses for high school students. Programs and sites are approved on an annual basis.

Personal skills are also developed, such as communicating effectively, working with other people, problem solving and positive thinking. Work experience is also offered. The purpose of this experience is to develop good work habits and attitudes.
