The school day Morning 8.55am Children should line up in their class on the playground ready for the whistle. Children should not be on site unaccompanied before 8.45am. Parents are asked to leave children in the line and avoid coming into school. If you need to discuss an important matter with the class teacher, please make an appointment or leave a message at the office. is a good way to contact us - via office@godmanchester.cambs.sch.uk. Please do not use the front entrance to come into school in the morning. If you need to visit the office, leave your child at the correct entrance first. If your child is late please go to the office to register him/her. A child is marked as late if arriving after 9:05 registration. Children are not allowed to have phones in their bags or lockers; they need to be handed into the office each morning. The school day ends at 3:15. In an emergency, if you are not able to collect your child please contact the school office. Equipment Required We provide basic equipment at school. However we are trying to foster independence and it would be appreciated if you could make sure your child comes equipped with a small pencil case containing: pen (black), pencil, rubber, pencil sharpener, ruler, coloured pencils, highlighter pen and a glue stick. Year 5 start the year writing in pencil and, depending on their handwriting level, by Christmas may progress to writing in black ink. Children need to bring a water bottle to school each day. They may also bring fruit for a breaktime snack.

Lunchtime In Year 5 children have the opportunity to become Play-leaders halfway through the year. This is a chance for children to demonstrate leadership skills or develop further social and friendship skills. Children will be trained in leading a variety of games and activities. Year 5 and 6 are intensive years and so lunchtime is a great opportunity for the children to refuel and re-energize! Please encourage your child to have a balanced lunch/packed lunch which should include carbohydrate, proteins and some of their 5 a day. Please be aware that we have children in the school with allergies to nuts and seeds. Swimming Girls will need a one piece swimming costume Boys will require swimming trunks All need a swimming hat Goggles Indoor PE and Dance Pair of blue or black shorts Plain white or house coloured T-shirt Pupils with long hair need to be able to tie their hair back. Please note - children are not allowed to wear jewellery (including earrings) in any PE lesson. If your child is unable to do P.E. or Games they must bring a note from home. Outdoor Games The children have an outdoor games session every week throughout the year, weather permitting. Normal P.E. kit plus a change of trainers Sweatshirts and jogging bottoms are advisable for the winter months. Please name all clothing and other items your child brings into school. PE kit should be kept in school all week. As a general rule, if children are well enough to be in school, they should be well enough to swim and take part in PE and games lessons. Please let us know in writing if they are unable to participate for any reason.

Intervention groups Children of all abilities may sometimes be supported in small groups or individually to reinforce and extend their learning. Dates for your diary 14th October - Ancient Greek Day

Homework We like the children to take an active interest in the topics we cover. Our first topic is The Ancient Greeks Spellings will be sent home weekly. Maths homework each week, which can be Mathletics or times tables. Small research projects connected with their studies will also be set once per half term. Reading In Key stage two, all children should do daily reading practice as part of their homework. Our current recommendation is that children read independently for 40 minutes every day between home and school.

Homework Learning Journal Homework Learning journal, where children will present regular independent work, either based on Literacy or topic work. This is an opportunity for children to achieve the learning objective given as creatively as possible.

Meet the Teacher 2016.notebook September 21, 2016

Trips Our trip to Suffolk is booked (10th - 12th May 2017) and letters will be sent home soon. Please let us know if you don't receive one by the end of the month.
