5 Activities of the Chapter Annual General Body Meeting Annual General Body Meeting was held on August 28, It was well attended and the new committee took over the activities of the chapter. The chairman, Dr. Kamachi Mudali, welcomed the members and after a round of introductions, the new members were welcome. The Secretary, Mr. Sampathkumar, presented the activities of the previous year and the awards received by the chapter. Several suggestions were obtained for improving the chapter activities, membership development and chapter visibility.
6 ASM International President s Visit A meeting with Mr. Jon Tirpak, President ASM International, was organized on 16 th Oct The Meeting was graced by Dr. T. S. Sudarshan, Trustee, ASM International and Prof. Ravi Ravindran, Past President, ASM International. Mr. Tirpak interacted with the members and served as a chief guest for the Chapter Awards function Mr. Tirpak also presented a technical talk on Additive Manufacturing: Can it replace castings

8 Activities of the Chapter Technical Lectures A technical talk on Advanced Methods in Welding of Automotive Steels was delivered by Dr. Murugaiyan Amirthalingam, Assistant Professor, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras, Chennai on 6th Aug This event was jointly organized with Madras Metallurgical Society and Indian Welding Society Chennai Centre. A technical talk on Influence of intrinsic solidification behaviour on quality of stainless steel products was delivered by Dr. Santanu Kr. Ray, Steel Chair Professor, Dept of Metallurgical and materials Engineering, IIT Madras, Chennai on 10th Sept This event was jointly organized with Madras Metallurgical Society. A Technical talk on Materials development, processing and cost effective manufacturing aspects of high performance powder metallurgical components was delivered by Dr. Karthik Nagarathnam, Senior Materials Scientist/Manager-Materials Research, UTRON Kinetics LLC, Manassas, Virginia, USA on 8th Nov The talk was organized jointly with Madras Metallurgical Society
