Experimental verification of computational results in planning stages. Metallic Foil Thermal Interface Structure Funded by Intel, Corp. Optimization of metallic foil layers for use as a thermal interface material in electronics Fluid Mechanics of Inter-rotor Flow Field of Open Rotor Propulsion Systems Continuation of NASA Faculty fellowship NASA Glenn Faculty Fellowship, NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, OH Propulsion Division, Acoustics Branch Studied effect of aft rotor on inter-rotor flow field of open rotor propulsion system 3D PIV data set phase averaged on aft rotor position to determine effects of aft rotor Aft rotor found to have very little effect on forward rotor tip vortices Effect of forward rotor wakes measured and compared favorably to CFD simulations. USDOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, Cambridge, MA Aerospace Engineer Collect, process, and analyze full scale wake vortex data acquired via Paul E. Slaboch 2
3 LIDAR at various locations around the US. Member of international effort to harmonize wake turbulence separation standards across the globe and re-categorize all aircraft into 6 new classes. Perform wake vortex analysis in support of new FAA air traffic control procedures for Closely Spaced Parallel Runways (CSPRs). Developed operational model of jet blast phenomena in support of JFK Airport, Northeast Regional FAA and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) during closure of Bay Runway for resurfacing. Results of jet blast model were incorporated into Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at JFK International Airport. Researched, selected and utilized tethersonde system in support of Boeing Wake Vortex flight test. Tethersonde system used to measure Brunt- Vaisala frequency and report in real-time. Acted as liaison between land owners and the Volpe Center to secure ground support for placement of equipment for Boeing flight test. Acted as liaison between Fresno-Yosemite International Airport, Volpe Center and Boeing to secure cleared air traffic pattern and airport cooperation during flight test. Fall Spring 2009 RESEARCH FUNDING HONORS AND AWARDS UNIVERSITY SERVICE Research Assistant/Graduate Research Assistant Assisted in design and implementation of large scale PIV experiment in an outdoor environment at the salt flats near Salt Lake City, UT. Oversaw purchase and installation of Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometry system to measure vibration of fluid loaded membrane. Designed seeding device and oversaw collection of data for full scale PIV experiment at Chrysler Acoustic Wind Tunnel. Data acquired included both PIV and interior and exterior acoustic measurements.
