2 The College Dulwich College Beijing caters for international students aged one to eighteen from the Beijing area across three distinct schools: School level Key Stage/ Year Enrolment Average class size Early Years Foundation Stage KS1 (Years 1 and 2) Junior School KS2 (Years 3-6) KS3 (Years 7-9) Senior School KS4 (Years 10-11) IBDP (Years 12-13) Drawing on the best practices of both British and International education, the College offers a curriculum based on the English National Curriculum (ENC) up to Year 9, (I)GCSE courses in Years 10 and 11, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Years 12 and 13. The curriculum is suitably adapted to reflect the needs of students in an international school and extends well beyond the formal classroom into extra- curricular activities. All students study compulsory Mandarin Chinese up to the end of Year 9, with almost all opting to take their study further. Dulwich College Beijing is academically selective, primarily on the basis of English language ability, but we also look for promise in other academic areas. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards or interactive LCD screens, and all students in Year 9 and above take part in our one- to- one Apple laptop programme. Extensive ICT training is provided for staff, and our technology teachers lead, develop and support the integration of ICT teaching in the classroom. 2

3 The College is an IB World School and is in the advanced stages of attaining joint accreditation through Council of International Schools (CIS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Chinese National Center for School Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT). Particular achievements include: Sports Performance Community Over 55 teams across Junior and Senior Schools - spanning 13 different sports - take part in competitions in China and beyond, with great success. Frequent music and drama events including hosting and taking part in festivals; annual performances for Year 1 upwards; exam centre for ABRSM, Trinity and Rock School (music) and LAMDA (performance), and a wealth of other extra- curricular opportunities. Dulwich College, founded in London in 1619, is one of the UK s most prestigious independent schools. Committed to achieving the same level of excellence in an international setting, DCMI founded its first China school in Shanghai in August Dulwich College Beijing followed in 2005, and Dulwich College Suzhou in Dulwich College Seoul opened in South Korea in 2010, whilst parallel development has seen the establishment of Windsor bilingual kindergarten in Beijing and a high school programme for Chinese students in Zhuhai, south China. 4

The Board of Trustees, established in 2009, acts as an advisory body to the Headmaster and includes three parent representatives. Our students Our students are drawn from over 50 countries, with the greatest cohort coming from the UK, Korea, the USA, Canada and Australia. Applicants are admitted based on the student s ability to succeed socially and academically in our dynamic learning environment, the demonstration of a good work ethic, a history of school- appropriate behaviour, and a desire to attend the College. Students from Nursery to Year 12 wear uniform (IB students follow dress guidelines), with a Best Dressed uniform worn for assemblies, special occasions and when representing the school. Our Parents We strongly encourage parents to support and be involved in their child s education. The Friends of Dulwich organisation provides an effective channel of support between the parent community and the school. The Friends volunteers also organise social activities and fundraising events, and provide a great source of support for new families. 5

6 Our Staff We have about 125 expatriate teachers from over 20 different countries with the largest proportion coming from the UK, and over 75 Chinese teachers and teaching assistants. Our administration and support staff are mostly Chinese nationals. Typical benefits for our expatriate teaching staff members include both a shipping and relocation allowance; annual home flight, housing and domestic bills allowances; and comprehensive private medical insurance. For , the annual value of this package is in the region of 16,000 for a single teacher (on top of salary). This amount is higher for staff with families. All staff are provided with a free Western or Chinese lunch. Professional Development Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an integral part of the school. Our performance management system identifies needs that we address both informally - through observations, in- house connections and links with other schools - and formally, bringing a wide range of courses and training opportunities to staff. We have a senior teacher with dedicated CPD responsibility, and run five dedicated staff CPD days each year, as well as providing a financial assistance programme for staff seeking longer term- development. Many of our teachers engage in accredited courses of study at a postgraduate level with universities around the world. Facilities The College is located across four campuses in the north- east of Beijing: Legend Garden Campus houses our Junior and Senior Schools and administration offices. It is around 5 km from the airport and around 20 km from the centre of the city, with the nearby Airport Expressway offering easy access to both. Facilities include a Sports Centre with a gym, swimming pool and fitness suite, two tennis courts and 40,000 m 2 of sports fields, with a new 1600 m 2 flexible indoor sports space under construction. Arts facilities include a theatre, a black box theatre, music practice rooms and music and art Apple Mac labs. The Media Centre, set at the heart of the College, houses the main school library, IT support and a range of multi- media learning resources. Riviera Campus, around 4 km from Legend Garden, houses our Year 1 and 2 students plus a Reception class. Facilities include an IT room, music and art rooms, the library, sports fields and the playground. Little Riviera, just a few minutes walk away from the Riviera Campus, houses three Foundation Stage classes and has its own playground and library. Legend Early Years Campus houses toddler, nursery and Reception classes. The campus is 5 minutes drive north of our Junior and Senior School and administration offices.
