Principal s Message (Mrs. Frances Weber) And behold an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone round them: and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly hosts praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will towards men. Luke 2:9-14 Christmas is a wonderful season. We remember the birth of our Saviour, we spread peace to all, and if we were good, we get a few presents in our stockings. Whatever the traditions we have, we must try to keep the real meaning of Christmas in our hearts. There is no better way to be reminded of this reason, than to attend a Christmas pageant. This year the students will be performing I Witness News: Live From Bethlehem. The students and staff always work very hard to put the pageant together. They always make us proud and put us in the Christmas spirit! As 2018 is approaching, I'd like to take this time to thank the parents and families of our students for their support in the past year, whether it be through volunteering, helping with homework, or simply just being there. This was evident during parent teacher interviews, where we had wonderful attendance by parents. It is great to have such committed people to work with in ensuring that our children have the best education possible. I wish you all a very fun, family filled Christmas, and a prayerful, prosperous New Year. Stay healthy over the holiday and we'll see you recharged for 2018.

2 Page 2 CHRISTMAS CONCERT TURKEY DINNER Rivier School Community Council will be providing a Turkey Dinner and all the fixings on the last day of school, December 21st. Thank you to our SCC for preparing this lovely Christmas meal! If you child will not eat a turkey dinner, make sure to send a lunch that day. 3 Page 3 VOLLEYBALL CLUB Thank you to Mrs. Weber for leading the Grade 5/6 Volleyball Club! The students will be participating in a Volleyball Tournament in Medstead on December 7. Good luck! SCHOOL SKATING & CURLING Students will be taking part in school skating (K-Grade 4) and school curling (Grade 5/6) in January as part of the Physical Education curriculum. Students will need skates and a CSA approved helmet for skating. The school has some skates and helmets available for use. If your child needs to borrow from the school, please make arrangements with the classroom teacher. Grade 5/6 students are encouraged to bring a curling broom if they have one available. We always welcome parent volunteers for tying skates and for driving students to and from the rink for our younger classes. If you do wish to transport children other than your own for skating, you MUST have a criminal record check completed and a copy of your drivers license/package policy on file at the school. 4 Page 4 JESSE TREE & FOOD BOXES Rivier will be accepting non-perishable food donations on behalf of the Sacred Heart Church. We invite you to donate and support families in need this Christmas season in and around our community. Donations will be accepted at our school up until Wednesday, December 20th. Families may also participate in the Jesse Tree at Sacred Heart Parish. Teachers have sent home notes to their classroom regarding what they are doing. The Jesse Tree goes up on the First Sunday of Advent (December 3). The Jesse Tree is filled with tags listing ages and genders of children in and around our community, that receive gifts from parishioners anonymously. If you are interested in picking a tag, please visit the church on Sunday Mass days and choose a tag. Unwrapped gifts with the tag included are to be placed under the tree by Sunday, December 17th.
