5 A University Style Campus Our stunning university style campus, set in 110 acres of private parkland, provides a calm yet stimulating environment for our students. Extensive and impressive on-site facilities and state of the art technology blend with original architecture and plenty of green space. The Library and Sixth Form Centre provides the focus for academic life and quiet study in a well-resourced, modern environment. An extensive range of resources and researchmaterials are available to help with studies. The Head of Sixth Form and Careers is always on hand for advice and assistance. Our estate is fully WiFi enabled, allowing for the use of laptops and mobile technology throughout the site for private study. The Sixth Form Café is a lively social space for relaxation during breaks and lunch and for study during free periods.

7 We Are Ambitious The Sixth Form at Royal Russell is a vibrant community with a full curriculum and a lively student body. A wide range of A level courses is offered, and we advise students to select those subjects that they enjoy, are good at and meet their future career aspirations. Small class sizes, taught by highly engaging and talented staff allow for group debate and the free curiosity and independent thinking. Students thrive in the subjects they have chosen and are inspired and enthused. Students have greater responsibility for organising their time and enjoy a wide range of privileges. We expect all our students to set clear goals, work hard and take full advantage of the many co-curricular opportunities available. We want all our students to leave us with the best possible exam results to thrive in a competitive world. Our students aim high, and leave us for highly competitive university courses in medicine, engineering, business and veterinary, as well as gaining internships in many prestigious organisations. 8 What our Students say: Get involved in as many things as possible and you will find your strengths very quickly. We Are Leaders During their time in our Sixth Form, students will have plenty of opportunities to take risks, accept challenges and develop their skills in public speaking, time management and leadership. We encourage our students to show initiative, motivate others and take the lead. Sixth Formers hold important positions of responsibility as Prefects, Sport and House Captains and Curriculum Ambassadors, acting as role models and mentors for younger students. Our Sixth Form Committee works with our Headmaster and his Senior Management Team over all aspects of school life. They make a valuable contribution to the running of the school, and organise and run House and Sixth Form events. Lectures, seminars and team-building challenges stretch our talented young people intellectually as they develop the attributes and skills they will need to succeed in their chosen careers and in society.

11 We Get Involved achieved through a purely academic curriculum. We encourage a healthy balance of academic rigour and co-curricular participation, where students can explore alternative interests and unearth hidden talents. We run an exciting programme of enriching clubs, activities and societies. All students are encouraged to participate in a range of activities to enhance their studies, learn new skills, extend their friendship groups or simply just to have fun and relax at the end of a busy school day. We have an active Combined Cadet Force (CCF) who train weekly in our extensive grounds. Whether they are in the Army or RAF sections, cadets are often selected for prestigious leadership courses and attend many residential camps at military bases. Our Duke of Edinburgh training represents Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions. Our Model United Nations (MUN) organisation is well-respected both locally and internationally. Involvement in MUN builds students skills in communication, public speaking and debating and students have the opportunity to attend conferences both in the UK and abroad throughout the year. We offer our students the opportunity to participate in our unique Driving School. Theory and practical lessons take place within our extensive grounds to introduce our students to driving skills and road awareness in a safe environment. Music, Drama and Sport are widely available to students and participation, at all levels, is welcomed. We run an enriching programme of cultural, adventurous, creative and social trips, both local and residential. Recent trips include visits to Iceland, America, Wales, Italy, Spain, France and Japan. Sixth Formers also enjoy their own social calendar, including the coveted May Ball. We encourage all our students to get involved in Sixth Form life, make a positive contribution and enjoy their time here. 12 We Are Prepared Our Head of Sixth Form and Careers is genuinely interested in every student and is Bespoke Careers advice encourages all our students to aim higher and choose a rewarding career. Personal Tutors and subject teachers play an important role in providing appropriate advice and guidance to support individual academic and personal progress. Our Assembly programme sees motivating and inspirational guest speakers present on a wide range of topics and industries. We aim to broaden horizons and give our students an insight into a wealth of careers and opportunities that they may not have yet considered. University entrance is highly competitive and our tailored mentoring will guide you through the entrance procedure and ensure you choose the most appropriate course and university for your chosen career. Those considering Oxbridge entrance are given bespoke guidance and preparation. We provide expert assistance in the writing of UCAS personal statements, with interview experience to help students build a quality application, giving our students the edge over the competition. Tutors work with students on an individual level to inspire, motivate and encourage, and ensure that progress always remains on track. can be stressful, and students have a variety of routes for advice, support or just a reassuring chat; with older students, tutors, teachers, our school counsellor and our Chaplain. Our students deserve to achieve the very best exam results they can, but they also deserve to enjoy school, make life-long friends and future connections and leave us with fond memories of their time here. Many of our students return to us regularly for Old Russellian reunions or to guest lecture to other students who will follow in their footsteps.
14 We Feel At Home Around one quarter of our students choose to live at school in one of our three wellpositioned and homely boarding houses. Sixth Formers enjoy their own room with ample space for quiet study and revision. Students within our thriving boarding community join us from the local area and from overseas and add a vibrant international dimension to our 24 hour school life. Boarders are able to enjoy their school day with day students, take part in activities after school and complete their homework in a quiet, supervised environment. Their free time can be spent socialising and relaxing with their friends in comfortable surroundings or taking part in the host of activities laid on for their fun and enjoyment. Ultimately, each boarding house is a home. All our boarding staff live on-site, creating a friendly, happy and supportive family atmosphere. Many of you will know that the Duke of Wellington, as well as being a successful military leader, was also twice the Prime Minister, as was our own Lord John Russell. Wellington s biographer wrote; Sir Winston Churchill once told me of a reply made by the Duke of Wellington, in his last years, when a friend asked him: If you had your life over again, is there any way in which you could have done better? The old Duke replied: Yes, I should have given more praise. So, with the Old Duke in mind I would like to praise and thank those who have made this year so successful for us all. Firstly, Thank you to our Teaching and Classroom Staff who mirror so many of those success characteristics and have given their expertise, their knowledge, their time and of themselves to ensure that this year is as successful as possible for all our pupils. My second Thank you is to our wonderful Royal Russell pupils. I cannot think of a more lively and interesting bunch and I want you to know just how much of a privilege it is to work with you all. In my newsletter last week I described you as: Remarkable Openhearted Youthful Adventurous Limitless Reliable Understanding Sociable Sensitive Exciting Loyal Loving amazing range and variety of activities that you have undertaken. support of your children and of the events we are running or indirectly in the positive messages that you send to those who have not yet experienced this amazing school.
