1 Academic Year s SHINE believes that all children should have the chance to succeed irrespective of their background and family income. In the academic year, we are supporting 68 projects across the breadth of our programmes, investing 1.6 million into innovative, educational projects. These projects will see the lives of children from across England be transformed, providing opportunities to access additional educational support and helping children to achieve their full potential.

2 Teacher-led Innovation Let Teachers SHINE 2017 We ve always supported innovative teaching that gets great results and we re constantly looking for new ideas and fresh approaches. Let Teachers SHINE combines these two priorities into a free competition for great Teachers working in England with students aged up to 18. 3 SHINE s Saturday programmes SHINE on Saturday SHINE on Saturday is run in primary schools by excellent Teachers, who deliver hands-on, exciting learning through creative lessons, which are enriched by outside trips and external visitors. In Greater Manchester, the programme is delivered in partnership with the Hallé Orchestra, who provide access to world class musicians and a music-centred curriculum. Behind the fun of our Saturday programmes, there is a clear focus on improving attainment and raising aspirations. 4 Secondary projects SHINE in Secondaries is based on our successful primary school programme SHINE on Saturday. It was adapted to help students manage the tricky transition between primary and secondary education. SHINE in Secondaries provides extra tuition and support to supplement classroom teaching, combining an alternative learning experience with exciting outside trips and workshops. Capital City Academy Gladesmore Community School Holy Family Roman Catholic School Academy Northumberland Park Community School Rush Croft Sports College South Shore Academy St George's School Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys Brent Greenwich Serious Fun on Saturday Serious Fun on Saturday is an innovative partnership between SHINE, independent schools and their local state school partners. Through Serious Fun, independent schools open their doors to children from local state schools, giving them access to excellent teaching facilities and resources for weeks on Saturdays. With match funding provided by the independent schools, this is a very cost effective way of supporting children to realise their full potential. 5 School-based partnerships SHINELabs SHINELabs is a programme designed to improve primary science provision for children in areas of socioeconomic deprivation. Through SHINELabs, we turn normal classrooms into spaces which are specifically used for science, backed up with a programme of investigative and independent learning including practical workshops, and visits by expert practitioners. In addition, we target 20 children per school in years 4 and 5 for an inspirational programme of after school science workshops. SHINELabs is run in partnership with Primary Science Teaching Trust and The Ogden Trust. Eldon Junior School St Elizabeth's Catholic Primary School Wendell Park Primary School Wilbury Primary School Student Leaders Student Leaders trains high-ability students from Years 10 and 11 to tutor younger students from Years 7 9 who are struggling in maths. Over the course of 30 weeks, students attend a one hour after school club in which they are given targeted support by the older students. The aim of the project is to build confidence and remove barriers to progress.
