2 Strength There are 260,000 students in Colleges 1 in the East Midlands. 4, to 15-year-olds are enrolled at an East Midlands College. 61, to 18-year-olds choose to study in East Midlands Colleges (compared with 42,000 in maintained schools, academies and city technology colleges). 29,000 students undertake Apprenticeships through East Midlands Colleges; 10,000 are aged 16 to 18. The total College income in the East Midlands is 642 million. Further Education students aged 19+ generate an additional 75 billion for the national economy through the course of their lives. 45 Colleges are either lead or cosponsors of academies. 30 out of the 45 University Technical Colleges (UTCs) that are open or in pre-opening stage involve Colleges as a sponsor or lead partner.

4 Derbyshire Burton and South Derbyshire College, Buxton and Leek College, Chesterfield College, Derby College Derbyshire Colleges employ 2,000 staff; support 44,000 students, 8,000 Apprenticeships and 4,500 employers, operating with a combined budget of 133 million. 2 All Local Enterprise Partnership (D2N2*) Key Growth Sectors are supported by one or more Derbyshire Colleges, through qualifications, training, and sector initiatives. Over 2,000 Apprenticeships delivered in 2011/12 were at advanced level, including frameworks in the growth sectors. 3 ¾ ¾ 71% of KS5 students achieved 3 or more A level passes (including equivalences) at Colleges in Derbyshire, almost 20 points higher than the national average. 4

5 Qualification success rate for 16+ year olds on Education and Training (classroom based) courses: 83%. 5 Qualification success rate for year olds on FE Long courses (NVQs, BTECS etc.): 82%. Derby College and Burton and South Derbyshire College are each sponsoring new University Technical Colleges (Manufacturing and STEM specialisms) in the county (2015) and the Digital Studio College (Derby College) opens in 2014, specializing in digital technologies. *D2N2 Key Growth Sectors Advanced Transport Manufacturing / Medical Bioscience / Food and Drink Manufacturing / Construction / Visitor Economy / Low Carbon Goods & Services

6 Leicestershire Brooksby Melton College, Gateway College, Leicester College, Loughborough College, Regent College, South Leicestershire College, Stephenson College, Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College Leicestershire Colleges employ 4,000 staff; support 83,000 students, 6,000 apprenticeships and 4,700 employers, operating with a combined budget of 172 million. All Local Enterprise Partnership (LLEP*) Priority Sectors are supported by one or more Leicestershire Colleges, through qualifications, training, and sector initiatives. ¾ ¾ 2,500 Apprenticeships delivered in 2011/12 were at advanced level, including frameworks in the priority sectors.

7 66% of KS5 students achieved 3 or more A levels (including equivalences) at Colleges in Leicestershire, almost 15 points higher than the national average. Qualification success rate for 16+ year olds on Education and Training (classroom based) courses: 85%. Qualification success rate for year olds on FE Long courses (NVQs, BTECS etc.): 84%. Stephenson College Studio School (one of the first in the UK) supports up to 300 students (14-19) every year with a curriculum focussed on academic and vocational/employability skills. *LLEP Priority Sectors Business and Financial Services / Creative Design, Media and Performing Arts / Environmental Technologies / Distribution and Logistics / Food and Drink Manufacturing / Knowledge-based industries / (Hi-tech) Manufacturing / Space and Aerospace / Tourism and Hospitality

8 Lincolnshire Boston College, Grantham College, Lincoln College, Linkage College, New College Stamford Lincolnshire Colleges employ 2,500 staff; support 28,000 students, 4,000 apprenticeships and 2,500 employers, operating with a combined budget of 79 million. All Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP*) Priority Sectors are supported by one or more Lincolnshire Colleges, through qualifications, training, and sector initiatives Apprenticeships delivered in 2011/12 were at advanced level, including frameworks in the priority sectors. 69% of KS5 students achieved 3 or more A levels (including equivalences) at Colleges in Lincolnshire, 17 points higher than the national average.

9 Qualification success rate for 16+ year olds on Education and Training (classroom based) courses: 80%. Qualification success rate for year olds on FE Long courses (NVQs, BTECS etc.): 82%. Lincoln College is sponsoring a new University Technical College in the county, specializing in Engineering and Core Science, which will support around 300 students (14-19) per year. Opens in *GLLEP Priority Sectors Agri-food / Health and Care / Manufacturing / Ports and Logistics / Renewables / Visitor Economy

10 Northamptonshire Hinwick Hall College, Moulton College, Northampton College, Tresham College of Further and Higher Education Northamptonshire Colleges employ 2,000 staff; support 19,000 students, 2,000 Apprenticeships and 1,000 employers, operating with a combined budget of 64 million. All Local Enterprise Partnerships priority sectors (NEP* & SEMLEP**) are supported by one or more Northamptonshire Colleges through qualifications, training, and sector initiatives. Over 800 Apprenticeships delivered in 2011/12 were at advanced level, including frameworks in the priority sectors.

11 66% of KS5 students achieved 3 or more A levels (including equivalences) at Colleges in Northamptonshire, almost 15 points higher than the national average. Qualification success rate for 16+ year olds on Education and Training (classroom based) courses: 86%. Qualification success rate for year olds on FE Long courses (NVQs, BTECs etc.): 85%. Tresham College sponsors Silverstone University Technical College, which opened in September 2013, and specialises in High Performance Engineering. All Local Enterprise Partnership (D2N2*) Key Growth Sectors are supported by one or more Nottinghamshire Colleges, through qualifications, training, and sector initiatives. ¾ ¾ Over 4,000 Apprenticeships delivered in 2011/12 were at advanced level, including frameworks in the key growth sectors.

Vision West Nottinghamshire College is the sponsor for the first studio school (Vision Studio School) in the county, specialising in engineering and transportation and health and care.
