Our goal is that every family sell minimum of 4 subscriptions. Funds are used to support all students with a number of activities and resources. School Council We had an amazing turnout at our first council meeting, and are very excited that we have lots of new members. We are pleased to present our council to you: Co- Chairs: Amy Silva and Caroline Ryder Treasurer: Dominic Gniewek Secretary: Cheryl Sauve Giving Thanks We are so grateful for a smooth transition to the new year. We have many new families, and we continue to receive many requests for registrations. Our students have settled into the learning mode and are becoming involved with a variety of extra curricular activities. September weather was certainly not what one would expect, but we are grateful that we did not experience much rain to keep us indoors. Many parents have offered to volunteer in the classroom, on council and on field trips, which is wonderful! We appreciate how busy you are and are grateful that you devote some time to our school community All parents and staff are invited to every meeting. 2 ST ANTHONY S FRENCH IMMERSION SCHOOL Page 2 We are gearing up for a fabulous fall of reading with a Scholastic Book Fair from Oct. 3 to 6 theme. There will be hundreds of books in French and English for sale, as well as school supplies and gift items. One lucky student will win prizes for his or her family and class. The dates and times for the Scholastic Book Fair will be: Tuesday, Oct. 3 8:3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Previews only Wednesday, Oct. 4: 8:3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 8:3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6: 8:3 a.m. to 12 noon. Our Book Fairs connect students to books they want to read. To help your child find the newest and best books, he or she will visit the Fair during class time. Students will be allowed to purchase books during that visit, but we also encourage you to look over the highlights flyer with your child. If you cannot attend, you may use the Student Wish List order form and send it back, along with the correct amount of money, to the school with your child. You are more than welcome to drop in and shop during the Book Fair s hours of operation. Thank you for encouraging your child to read. By purchasing books and supporting our Book Fair, you enable our school to obtain new resources for our school and classroom libraries. This year, we are hoping to send as many students as possible to the Forest of Reading celebration in May with some of the Book Fair profits. At the fall Scholastic Book Fair sale last year, we raised $1, in cash to benefit St. Anthony students. We accept cheques made payable to our school or cash. Visa, MasterCard, American Express and debit cards are welcome, too. We look forward to working together to make this another outstanding year! Halloween On Tuesday, October 31 we will be recognizing Halloween with a non-uniform day. The theme for attire will be orange and black. However wearing orange and black is not mandatory. No costumes please! Also, after your children have gone trick or treating, please limit candy placed in lunches. Much appreciated!

As a French Immersion school, it has been the trend that English reading and writing improves significantly by Grade 6. As a school, we are continuing to focus on student learning in Mathematics. We are currently reviewing the EQAO math questions to determine which type of question poses particular challenges for our students. We are very proud of our students, and we will work together to ensure that improving student learning remains the focus of our school improvement plan.

Did you know that many children are not aware that they have a vision problem? This can make School difficult because % of what children learn is based on what they see. Help your child succeed in school. Make an appointment with an optometrist for an eye exam. Children should have at least one eye exam before to beginning school followed by an annual exam through age 19. Your child s health card (OHIP) provides coverage for an annual eye exam for Children aged to 19.
