1 French Level II Syllabus for Mademoiselle Lipscomb Room: 446 Office: 447 s: Phone: Course Description The goal of this course is to continue the exploration of the French language and culture that was introduced in the French I course. A variety of approaches and activities will be used to help students learn to read, write, and speak in basic French. Objectives o Introduction to the French language through various reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities. o Exposure to multiculturalism. o Investigate the history of the French language. o Study art, literature, and other contributions made by French-speaking cultures. Holt, Rinehart, Winston Apps for the ipad: Duolingo (French) by Duolingo Free Verb Conjugator by GymGlish A9 Website to bookmark on ipad: verb2verb.com Course Calendar/Schedule This course will follow the French I and II Curriculum Calendars created by Muncie Community Schools. Changes to the calendar may be made during the year as necessary.

2 Supplies Needed for French II Each student will be assigned a textbook. He/She will be expected to bring this book to class every day along with the following items: o Pencils or pens o Notebook paper o ipad o Earbuds o Three-ring binder (1-1½ inch) with inside cover pockets o Binder divider tabs, 5 minimum o 1 single-subject spiral-bound notebook o French/English dictionary (option to be kept in classroom) Course Calendar/Schedule This course will follow the French I and II Curriculum Calendars created by Muncie Community Schools. Changes to the calendar may be made during the year as necessary. Grading Grades will be based upon participation, homework, assignments, projects, quizzes/tests, and the final. Grading scale 90% - 100% A 80% - 89% B 70% - 79% C 60% - 69% D 59% and below F Homework: Students are asked to complete work outside of the classroom. It is to be finished and turned in on the day that it is due at the beginning of the class period. All work is to be turned in to the homework basket for the assigned period. Participation: Participation is a very important component of this class. Your participation grade is comprised of the Bell Ringer activities and in-class participation. You will have a Bell Ringer activity each day that you will need to complete. A Bell Ringer sheet will be provided. The sheet will be turned in every two weeks and graded. Quizzes/Tests: At the end of each unit, a test will be given over that material. If necessary, quizzes may be given more often over material. Students will always have advanced notice of a quiz or test.

3 Late work: Late homework and assignments will be accepted past the due date but with a penalty. Students turning in homework or assignments one (1) day past the due date will receive 50% of the earned credit. Any homework or assignments two (2) or more days late will receive only 10% of the earned credit. Late projects and presentations will be accepted past the due date however with a different penalty scale. Students will lose 10% per part of the project per day that it is not complete. After five (5) days, the project or presentation will no longer be accepted. Projects and presentations are given more leniencies because they are typically substantially more points than homework or assignments. Late work will be accepted from students who have excused absences. Adequate time will be allotted for students who work at various paces, but student participation at all times is a must in order to complete all classroom work. It may not be possible to make up some work. Taking time for excessive make-up work may lead to the student falling further behind. In cases of excused absences, missed work would be excused on a case-by-case basis. Oops! Passes: An Oops! Pass is a homework pass to be used in emergencies. Each student will receive four (4) Oops! Passes each semester. An Oops! Pass has a maximum worth of 20 points. It excuses a student from an assignment or homework. An Oops! Pass can NOT be used for any of the following: tests, quizzes, projects, or presentations participation points weekly Bell Ringers extra credit assignments bonus points on any assignment or homework

4 Guidelines and Classroom Procedures 1. Bring ALL of your materials to class daily pencil, paper, textbook, binder, ipad and earbuds, and planner. 2. When you enter class, please be seated quietly and begin the day s Bell Ringer. 3. A student will be considered tardy when he/she is not in the classroom when the bell rings. Students who are tardy will report to the Tardy Room. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure missed work is received while in the Tardy Room and then turned in during the next class session. Please see the Muncie Central tardy policy for further explanation. 4. At the end of class, please remain in your seat. You will be dismissed by the teacher. 5. If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to make up any missed work. You will have one day for each day that you are absent to make up your missed work. Your missed work can be found on the side board or by asking me. If needing help, feel free to ask me or a friend. 6. The first five minutes of class are to be used for the day s Bell Ringer activity and preparing the day s assignment to be turned in. After that five minutes, Bell Ringer sheets are expected to be put away and homework to be turned in to the basket. 7. All students are expected to remain seated unless directed otherwise. Please raise your hand if you need to get out of your seat for any reason. 8. If you should need to borrow an item (stapler, 3-hole punch, tissues, etc.) while in class, please use only the items located on the teacher s cart. 9. Passes will only be given for emergency situations. 10. If you have a question, please raise your hand and wait to be called on. 11. Be respectful of your classmates! Remember the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you wish to be treated! When someone else is speaking, please do not interrupt. 12. Homework, projects, and other assignments are due on the assigned due date AT THE TIME OF COLLECTION. Anything turned in after papers are COLLECTED will be considered late work. 13. Throughout the course, students will be expected to participate in partner/group projects. There will be times the teacher chooses partners and groups; other times students will have the opportunity to choose with whom they work.

5 14. All students will be given four (4) Oops! Passes each semester. It excuses a student from an assignment or homework. These can be used throughout the semester at each student s discretion. 15. All approved policies from the Student Handbook will be applied in class. The school dress code will be followed. 16. ipads: When ipads are not being used for classroom instruction, they are to be stowed in the baskets underneath your chair. While using ipads during lessons, the ipad is to remain flat on the desk. Students are expected to stay on task with the teacher and the rest of the class. 17. If you need extra help, please don t hesitate to ask! I can be available before and after school as well as during lunch. Please arrange a time to meet with me, and I will be happy to help!
