1 GaTAPP Requirements Note-Taking Guide Danielson Framework See page 3 in the packet. Charlotte Danielson developed a framework and rubric to identify teacher behaviors associated with teacher effectiveness. Notice the 4 Domains and remember them. We will refer to them often. The Framework is the basis of GaTAPP, edtpa, and the TKES evaluation system for Georgia. All of your assignments are designed to provide Exit Competencies See pages 4-5. Notice the Domains. These are the 24 standards for certification which a candidate must meet in order to earn teacher certification. Our local portfolio and edtpa are based on the ECs. At the end of your program, your principal, mentor, and RESA Supervisor must be able to sign off on all 24 in order to recommend you for certification. In other words, you must be at least proficient on every statement of teacher behavior. Essentials Class The Essentials class is properly named Essentials for Effective Teaching. It is the 80-hour course which covers all the topics you would have studied in a college ed prep program. All sessions are required. You are expected to attend each unless you have an emergency. You must notify us of your need to be absent. You will be fined if your absence is not excused. $25 for a 4-hour session Content GACE The content GACE is the State assessment of your knowledge of your content. A passing score on the content GACE is required for admission to The content must match your teaching assignment. You can take other content GACEs which will be added to your certificate upon completion of the GaTAPP program. (Adding ECE will require additional work and a return to a one-year Ethics 360 Exam ( Ethics Exit ) You will be familiar with the format of this assessment because you completed the Ethics Entry GACE in order to enroll in The entry version was not graded. The exit version is graded, so you must pass it to complete MG RESA must release your name to ETS before you can register for the assessment. You will typically take this exam during your second year in edtpa Required by 3 rd semester Cost is $300. Not covered by TAPP tuition. edtpa is the State s assessment of pedagogy, the understanding and performance of effective instruction. Our staff will schedule required meetings with you to prepare you for edtpa. Failure to submit edtpa in the required semester will result in dismissal from the program that semester.

Once we release your name, you will receive an message from ETS, not us, with directions for registering. A passing score is required for certification by the end of your third (and last) year in Focus = Domains 1 and 3. Dispositions See pages 6-8. These elements are half of the ECs. Your principal and mentor will score this rubric at the end of your first year as a benchmark to assess your program. You must score at the proficient level on all Dispositions elements to be certified. On July 1, 2017, the State Rule goes into effect that requires a Professional level score for passing. Note: Any GACE passed before 7/1/17 will be recorded as passing, even if a candidate is not yet employed or enrolled in So if you want to add other fields to your certificate, now is the time to act on your own and pass these GACE assessments. Local Portfolio See pages The checklist provides an overview of the types of assignments in the local portfolio. It is based on the Danielson Framework and will document your performance in meeting those competencies. (The local portfolio will not include the 5 Field Experiences once we set up the LiveText Field Experience Module.)

3 Focus = Domains 2 and 4 Required Coursework We offer all these courses online or in seminar-type sessions. No additional cost. If you have not yet earned credit for them, you must take them from us. If required courses are on your transcript(s), you do not have to repeat the courses. Exceptional Learner Everyone has to take this one. In college, you may have taken Intro to Special Ed. That s it. Everyone has to enroll and pass Supervisor Observations See pages 11 and 12. Your Supervisor is the RESA staff member assigned to support you and to observe you. We are not evaluators. We choose to call ourselves coachervisors, a title we created.) We will conduct your CST meetings. We are the people you contact when you have a need. We will observe you at least 5 times per year. 2 formal observations 3 informal observations Field Experiences See page 13. The PSC requires that you observe teachers in other schools. These observations are FULL day. You will apply for PROFESSIONAL leave and prepare plans for a substitute. You will not report to your school on the day of the visit. You will spend the entire day in the other school. The 5 FEs must be in 5 different schools. You can observe 1 or 2 teachers no more than 2. Journals See page 14. The journal templates are available in the Local Portfolio in LiveText. You can open the form and type into it. Save it to your computer and then submit to LiveText. You should write Journals 1-6 in the first year. (Choose only ONE topic. Do not write on all 3.) You should write Journals 7-10 in your second year. Only 1 prompt is provided. Seminars The seminar schedule is a separate document which lists a variety of sessions required seminars optional seminars actual meetings online learning edtpa meetings special Essentials reminders. You must attend a total of 10 seminars over the course of the program. Some are required. Some count as 2 seminars. Some count as 1. One is required if you are Middle CST/IIP Forms (Candidate Support Team) (Individual Induction Plan) Same form with 2 uses See pages 15 and 16. This form serves as an advisement document where you and we record your progress in meeting program requirements for certification. (We are currently in the process of moving these forms to Google Docs. The plan is to provide you with a document devoted only to your requirements.)

Here goes: ECE Reading Endorsement 1, 2, and 3 Child Development Math Skills Workshop Methods Courses for all contents Middle Grades Content Nature & Needs (See seminar column.) 2 sessions with Shawn Carpenter and online assignments. It appears on seminar schedule. The Teaching of Reading & Writing Special Education We will use the observation forms and Danielson rubrics for Domains 2 and 3 each time we observe. The 2 formals will be reported to the PSC. The likely order of observations: Year 1-Inf/F/F/I/I. Year 2-F/I/I/I/F. We will give you glow and grow feedback. We are your COACHES. The schools should provide an observation involving diversity. (Students will differ from students you serve low SES, high SES, Special Education, etc.). The first visit can be in YOUR school and outside your content area. Others must be IN YOUR CONTENT. Your CST will decide on the schools. Your school-based mentor should arrange the FEs. If that is not happening, tell your Supervisor. Try to complete 3 FEs in Year 1 and 2 FEs in first semester of Year 2. Your RESA Supervisor will read and score your journals. See the rubric in LiveText for each assignment so you will earn credit the first time you submit. Grades certified Nature & Needs of the MG Learner. Understanding Poverty is required for all. Academic Language is required for all. 2 Special Education Academy seminars are required. Open to SpEd teachers only.

5 The Teaching of Reading and Writing 2 SpEd seminars General Ed (anyone not in the groups above) Literacy Across the Curriculum See seminar schedule for 2 sessions with Karen Yarbrough and online assignments. Observation and reflection forms are provided in the local portfolio. They differ in what you observe and record. You should print the observation form and ask the teacher you are observing to sign at the top BEFORE class begins. You can write notes and scan the form to submit to LiveText. You can type the reflection form later. You also (at this time) are required to complete a Diversity Verification Form so you will know the demographics of the student body in the school you visit and in your school.
