1 Purpose Statement Business and industry are creating a growing demand for trained technicians in the field of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration. This program is designed to prepare a student for full-time entry-level employment immediately upon completion of the program Air Conditioning Diploma Ronnie Cole and Larry Wallace Print Unit Plans Unit Planning Home 1 : Student Learning Students are able to understand and troubleshoot electrical diagrams for HVAC systems Final Exam, Lab skills training using Amatrol Motor Control trainer. AIR 134, AIR 135 Students averaged 84% pass rate on AIR 134 written test and 87% hands-on success rate on the Amatrol Motor Control trainer. Students averaged 85% pass rate on AIR 135 written test and 88% hands-on success rate on the Amatrol Motor Control (2nd level) trainer. There were approximately 20 students in these classes. 2 Students demonstrated strong abilities to understand & troubleshoot basic electrical components in AIR 134. An electrical circuit lab trainer was added to AIR 135. Students were required to build, install, and operate a circuit trainer using HVAC components. This trainer simulated the electronic circuitry on an HVAC system. Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. 10 : Program Operational Students enrolled in Air Conditioning will be able to demonstrate Hands on training with equipment/trainers at 90% accuracy. will be measured by a final exam, a skills test and completion rates in departmental courses. Students averaged 82.5% pass rate on written test through out the course. Students averaged 84% hands-on success rate through out the course. Students demonstrated strong abilities of basic skills to install and start-up HVAC systems, heating systems (Oil and gas). Troubleshoot various commercial systems ice machines, boilers, heat pumps, and commercial refrigeration. 3 2 : Student Learning Students are able to install and commission HVAC systems. Final Exam, Lab skills using Lab-volt trainers and Heil Heat Pump System, AIR 121, AIR 122 Students averaged 84% pass rate on AIR 121 written test and 84% hands-on success rate on brazing copper tubing on Heil Heat Pump system. Students averaged 85% pass rate on AIR 122 written test and 83% hands-on success rate on the Heil Heat Pump System for locating and repairing refrigerant leaks. There were approximately 20 students in these classes.also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. Students demonstrated strong abilities of basic skills to install and start-up HVAC system in Air 121. Students were required to break down installation theory in several small steps. 4 : Student Learning Students are able to troubleshoot and charge HVAC systems with refrigerants Final Exam, Lab skills using Lab-volt trainers and Heil Heat Pump System. AIR 123, AIR 124. Working on heat pump systems troubleshoot and charge HVAC systems with refrigerants. Students averaged 83% pass rate on AIR 123 written test and 84% hands-on success rate on troubleshooting over or undercharged HVAC systems. Students averaged 81% pass rate on AIR 124 written test and 83% hands-on success rate on using superheat, subcooling, and delta T principles using the Heil Heat Pump System. There were approximately 20 students in these classes. Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. Students demonstrated strong abilities to identify over or undercharged systems. Simutec HVAC software was added to AIR 123 & 124 to help students understand the principles of over and undercharged, superheat and sub cooling. AIR 134, AIR 135 Med Trem and Annually Students averaged 89% pass rate on AIR 134 written test and 89% hands-on success rate on troubleshooting high and low voltage input/output on heat pump circuit defrost board. Students averaged 85% pass rate on AIR 135 written test and 86% hands-on success rate on the defrost sequence of operation of the defrost cycle on Rheem circuit board. There were approximately 20 students in these classes.also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. Students demonstrated strong abilities to troubleshoot high and low voltage input/output in AIR 134. Simutec HVAC software was added to help students understand the defrost cycle sequence of operation in AIR 135. Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. 5 : Student Learning Students are able to identify & troubleshoot a hermetic compressor Final Exam, Lab skills using Rheem Heat Pump System. 6 Students averaged 85% pass rate on AIR 122 written test and 86% hands-on success rate on identifying the start, run, and common terminals on a hermetic compressor. Students averaged 80% pass rate on AIR 124 written test and 83% hands-on success rate on the troubleshooting run, start, and common windings for grounded, shorted, or open on a hermetic compressor. There were approximately 20 students in these classes.also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. Students demonstrated strong abilities to identify the terminals on a hermetic compressor AIR 122. Additional compressors were added to help students learn the components and operation of hermetic compressors. Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. 6 : Student Learning Students are able to identify characteristics and components of an oil & gas burning system Final Exam, Lab skills using Trane high efficiency oil & gas system. AIR 154, AIR 155 Med Trems and Annually Students averaged 88% pass rate on AIR 154 written test and 93% hands-on skills lab success rate on identifying the components of gas and oil burner. Students averaged 85% pass rate on AIR 155 written test and 89% hands-on skills lab success rate on the troubleshooting and combustion analysis of oil and gas burning systems. Simutec HVAC software was added to help students understand the combustion analysis of oil and gas burning systems in AIR 155.Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. 7 : Program Operational The program will train students for service tech careers in the HVAC field. Students will learn to diagnose and troubleshoot hermetic compressor windings. This program outcome is accomplished by using lab training equipment and lecture about theory and application. Simutec Software and hands-on skills assessments focusing on compressor windings. Quizzes based on theory related to compressor windings. Lab assessments using HVAC compressors, and quizzes on compressor windings. Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. Instructors will use these results to find weaknesses in the student's skill level related to compressor windings. 8 8 : Program Operational The program will train students for service tech careers in the HVAC field. Students will learn to diagnose and troubleshoot defrost controls boards. This program outcome is accomplished by using Simutec Software to simulate the sequence of operation and to troubleshoot defrost control boards. Simutec Software and hands-on skills assessments focusing on defrost control boards. Lab assessments using HVAC control boards, and quizzes on control boards. Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. Instructors will use these results to find weaknesses in the student's skill level related to troubleshooting control boards. 9 : Program Operational The program will train students for service tech careers in the HVAC field. Students will learn to interpret advanced HVAC electrical diagrams. This program outcome is accomplished by using Simutec Software, electrical circuit diagrams, and component symbols. Simutec Software and hands-on skills assessments focusing on advanced HVAC electrical diagrams. Lab assessments using HVAC control boards, and quizzes on control boards. Also had DHE-1 students a total of 6 students with the information the same as above. Instructors will use these results to find weaknesses in the student's skill level related to troubleshooting control boards.
