Please feel free to contact me with ideas, suggestions or concerns. Congratulations to Ms. Madison Weber, 4-H member of Hollow Valley Herdsmen 4-H Club! Madison was selected as the Ohio Fair s Queen. What a GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT! Stark County 4-H is proud and lucky to have such a wonderful young lady involved in the program. She is a great advocate for youth development, agriculture and leadership in the community. Thanks for all you do Madison! The first selection from North East Ohio for this award EVER!! Congratulations! J U N E J U L Y You, the volunteers make our Stark County 4-H Youth Program strong! Thanks and keep up your great work!! Stark County 4H Home Economic. Committee: NEW UPDATES for 2012 Clothing & Food Projects Please note: NEW DATE and NEW LOCATION this year! Clothing Judging & Style Revue TUES- DAY, July, 10, 2012) at Paradise United Church of Christ 619 East Main Street, Louisville Parking lot is behind the church. Use rear entrance (look for 4-H signs) Food & Nutrition Judging Saturday, July, 14, 2012 at the Stark County Fairgrounds Art Hall in Canton Same location as last year. The Stark County Home Ec. Committee has changed the date this year for Clothing Judging and Style Revue to a TUESDAY. Our goal this year is to better prepare our 4-H¹ers for judging at county and state. There will be a State Fair Registration & Prep Meeting for our 2012 Ohio State Fair Clothing participants and their parents on Thursday night, July 12, The Stark County Home Ec Committee will conduct this special meeting to help our state fair participants fill out their forms, answer questions and what to expect at state level. We will also be having a State Fair Registration & Prep Meeting for the state fair Food & Nutrition and Extravaganza winners as well on Monday night, July 16. More details will be expressed at the clinics. If you have any questions, concerns, please contact Ann Wolfe at EIN Number REQUIRED--ALL 4-H Clubs MUST have their own Employer Identification Number (EIN) by early May 2012*. This number is available through the IRS. This is a requirement for ALL 4-H Clubs, even clubs which do not have a checking/saving account. 4-H Clubs in Ohio who do not have an EIN # submitted to their 4-H Educator/Office will not be a 4-H Club. Please contact David Crawford at crawford.2228@osu.edu or x115. This will be strictly enforced by each county and led by the Ohio 4-H. Thanks to each Advisor and club who have registered for their own EIN for their specific 4-H Club, you all are greatly appreciated. REMEMBER-Each club MUST report to the IRS annually, even if the club has zero dollars. It s easy and called, IRS E- postcard. On the IRS.gov site. Try to complete your IRS-e-post card by April 15 BUT a May deadline has been listed. Search for e-post card and follow easy directions and answers. Make sure to print and save the page that shows you reported your 4-H club to the IRS! If your EIN is not recognized, make sure to print that page and file it. This shows you attempted to report. We will receive further information if an EIN number is not recognized at a later date.

2 P A G E 2 Dear Stark County 4-H Advisors, Members and Friends: Please let me share with you a very serious challenge we still face regarding your OSU Extension, Stark County Office & Programs will be a very challenging year for Stark County, OSU Extension. The Stark County Commissioners told us there will be no Commissioner funding for Funding from the Commissioners supports all of our local operations-office lease, copier, support staff, all supplies, all utilities/internet, mileage and a portion of educators salaries. Therefore, beginning the first week of February, 2012, we will need to reduce the OSUE Stark County Office hours to be closed on Fridays. Office hours will be Monday through Thursday, 8am to 4:30 pm. This is a serious situation. Our fundraising goal to operate the office in 2012 (at reduced hours) will be $100,000. If the goal is not met, there will be a need to make further, severe reductions. We want to acknowledge and thank the Stark County Commissioners for their past support, and a hopeful return to commissioner funding for Possible funding for 2013 will depend on collection of sales tax and dollars available. Recently, the Stark County Commissioners were able to appropriate $50,000 in April, Thanks to the Stark County Commissioners in this very hard economic time!! As we reduce, service levels may also be reduced, such as, serving the citizens of Stark County, when calling in for gardening, lawn care, 4-H, pests, etc., not being able to mail out information to individuals of a senior age and home bound or even service to our volunteers who provide a great number of volunteer hours of service, making Stark County a better place to live and grow. These cuts, though needed for 2012, will greatly reduce our ability to serve the community by limited staffing and resources. We have set up a Friends of Stark County OSU Extension Fund. In January 2012, Master Gardeners of Stark County, each 4-H Club, committee (s), (individuals if they would like) were asked to contribute an amount to this fund. Full participation his required to meet our goal. If everyone could give something, it will demonstrate the need to keep Extension to the community. Individuals, companies, foundations, etc., may also contribute to help keep our office open through All donations will be tax deductible, with checks made payable to The OSU Foundation, OSUE, Stark County. Donation form may be found at: Our plans are to positively work together to bridge this funding challenge, we hope fundraising only for 2012 but there may be needs beyond if commissioners do not reinstate appropriations. The Stark County 4-H Program, The Master Gardeners of Stark County and EFNEP are some of our great programs which benefit the citizens, families and youth of Stark County. Let s keep them great and improve them as we are faced with these unfortunate financial circumstances. Thanks to all who have helped with 4-H Square Dances, Garage Sales, Restaurant Fundraisers, donations and much more. We are still in great need. To date we have achieved $69, thru our fund raising and appropriation efforts. David Crawford, CED & 4-H Extension Educator, is available to make presentations and contact businesses or individuals. We are all in this together!! Thanks for your great efforts To Make The Best Better!! Sincerely; David Crawford, CED & 4-H Educator OSUE, Stark County
