La Société des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux Grand Voiture du Florida, Inc. Fl40and8.org Grand Chef de Gare WANDA HUNTER Grand Correspondant John A. Kaiserian November 2017 I AM "COMMITTED " TO LA SOCIETE FOR MEMBERSHIP. INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1/2 Grand Chef de Gare 3 Grand Correspondant 4 Chef de Train, Grand Advocat, Protocol Grand Ritual 5 Grand Conducteur, Publiciste, Boxcar 6 POW/MIA, Voiture Activities 7 Special Awards 8 9/10 Americanism, Child Welfare, Youth Sports Nurses Training, Carville Star, Ways and Means 11 Subscription Form, Taps, Upcoming Events 12 Voiture Information 13 Voiture Roster 14 Membership Totals From the Grand Chef GREETINGS, I am hoping that every "Voiture" is working on meeting the goals of "MEMBERSHIP". I was very happy to see all the Voyageurs that attended the Grand Seminar, this is where we Learn, Train, and Pass out information for the "Good of La Societe" and have time for socializing. I know that I may talk and talk about "MEMBERSHIP", but without Voyageurs renewing, or being reinstated, and invited, I feel that La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux (The society of forty men and eight horses) will not survive for future generations. I want all of the Voyageurs to be on the same page as I, but to do that we have to continue to make sure that our great organization thrives. We as a group can accomplish that together, when we extend an invitation, and we help the veteran enjoy being "WRECKED". Then we have to keep our veterans that we sponsor, interested in our mission, goals, programs, and the total Organization of La Societe. I am "COMMITTED", because I personally love La Societe and I want the very best for Grand du Florida. I feel that there is a must upon up, which is meeting the goal of 100% for membership, not just for 2018, but for every year and beyond. The National Correspondant Patrick Mobley, Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 1

talked to us about the realization of losing Voyageurs not just to TAPS, but to none renewal of your yearly membership (dues), to a drastic reduction to our "BUDGET". Grand du Florida membership was only short of about 69 Voyageurs for 100% goal for the 2017 year. Did every Voyageur know that there are less than 40 Voitures in Grand du Florida. I did the calculation that if every Voiture extended the invitation to 5 (five) veterans every single year, would be "AWESOME", and we could stop our downhill slump, won't you help me to turn around this "DECLINE", for the good of La Societe. Grand du Florida is supposed to be at 50% goal for membership and to remember that in December 2017 the goal is 75% of Voyageurs should have renewed. This is the third request for information...please respond by providing the following to myself and Grand du Florida Grand Correspondant: I am asking every Voiture to give/provide the Name of the Locale Correspondant, Locale Chef de Gare Address of where you hold your Promenades, Date of Promenades, Time of Promenade, and how many times per month is your Promenade held. It has been bought to my attention that several Voiture do not have or now where their Charter for Membership is, if your Voiture falls into this category, I suggest that if you do not know the location of this importation document, I refer you to National for guidance of this matter. During the Grand Seminar that was held on October 07, 2017, I am aware that most of you know that there were 3 (three) Special Cheminot held in Crystal River, FL. I want everyone Voiture to know that (1) was for Time and Place for 2019 Southlands Dixie Promenade location in Grand du Florida, this is Florida (our) turn for the Dixie and Northeast Florida First Coast Wrecking Association in Jacksonville was selected to host the Dixie. (2) A Grand Trial was held, there was Charges brought against Voyageur Militaire Howard Hoover and Mike Peterson. The Grand Cheminot heard the evidence from both the Investigating Officer and the charged. With a majority of votes, it was concluded that Voyageur Militaires Hoover and Peterson will be "EXPELLED" from La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux. This is for "Information Only" for every VOITURE to be aware that their membership cards were turned in permanent, NATIONAL WILL BE NOTIFY of this STATUS. The last (3) was held to appoint Chef de Chemin de Fer Passe 2005 Mac McCarthy as Chef de Train Grand du Florida. I want to thank you for accepting this position and I proposed that we (all) will have a great year together. Just a reminder that all Grand Bulletin Article will be turned in on or before the 15th of each and every month, to help assist the Editor to get the Bulletin out to each and every Voyageur on a timely matter with all article inputs available. Screaming, loud and clearly Happy, Happy, Birthday to all born in the month of November. All Voyageurs please feel free to , text, and call me at anything at (904) , Merci, Merci for all your support. I am in service always to La Societe. 3 Grand Correspondant Booker T. Washington said: The world cares very little about what a man or woman knows; it is what the man or woman is able to do. We all know how to work membership. When was the last time, if ever, that you invited a worthy Veteran to become a member of La Societe? Grand du Florida has received $ from PALS (Press Association of La Societe) and $ from the Germany Club to help those who suffered the effect of Hurricane Irma. Gary Navarro of V-1571 sent a check for $ and challenges Voyageurs and Voiture to also send a check. Grand needs to know what to do with the money? Send in your suggestion of a nonprofit agency that you feel did the most to help out. If you are on Medicare and pay for Part B, I suggest that you consider a Medicare Advantage Plan offered by many health care companies. A lot of the services are zero cost to you so you may be able to save money. Each of us has different needs and the companies have many plans, so I can t suggest a particular plan or company. Attend a seminar near you to get the details. The Grand du FL. has a new (old) Web Master. Cary Deeter has agreed to once again to take on the chore. It s only a chore if we don t help him. This is a list of what he needs: 1. Pictures of all Grand Officer and Directeurs with name, title, phone No., and address. 2. The name of all Locale Chef de Gares with phone No. and Current list of Locale Voitures and their contact info. And 4. Send any flyers, promotional material that is relevant to wrecks etc. Stop complaining about the web site if you don t submit the requested info. C2deet@gmail.com Merci! Cary. Fill out the forms in this bulletin and send them to me. On the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month ; Veterans Day. This is our day and I hope that your Voiture is doing something special on that day. If nothing is planned, why don t you do it. Many restaurants are offering free meals or other specials for this special day. Golden Corral is offering a free dinner on Monday, November 13, 5 9. This is not a plug for Golden Corral. I have noticed that many Voyageurs do not know where to wear the Chapeau Medal. The Chapeau Medal will be centered on the right side of the Chapeau. The blue Voyageur Militaire title bar is always worn on top of the ribbon as this is the first step you took when you became a Voyageur in La Societe. The story of the Voyageur s official service to La Societe is shown by the title bars he wears on the ribbon. Send me an afteraction report if you attended the Grand Seminar. How can we make it better? What would you like see at the Grand Seminar? We need your input. One of my favorite maxims is: If you keep on doing what you always have done, you will keep on getting what you always got! Dare to be different. Let s all get involved. It is up to you, the Voyageur Militaire to help improve your Voiture Locale and thus make the Grand Voiture better. Our future is up to you. If you don t know, ask. Send me your questions. We are the FUN and HONOR society Of the American Veteran All the way for La Societe John A. Kaiserian 365 W. Olympia St Hernando, FL Johnk40and8@gmail.com Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 3

Grand Chef de Train Greetings Grande du Florida. For those who may not have heard you have a new Grande Chef de Train, me. I'm Mac Mc Carthy and I was approved and elected by the Grande Cheminot to fill the vacancy in our Grande Officers line up. For those who don't know me... I m a Marine (insert oh-rahs here) and I've been a Voyageur since 1988 when I was wrecked into Voiture 954 and have been a member there ever since. I went through the chairs (3 times) to become the Chef de Gare Locale. I was the Grande Chef de Gare du Florida in 1999 and Chef de Chemin de Fer in As everyone knows the Chef de Train s primary duty is membership, and this is the primary duty of all Chef de Trains regardless of the level, Locale, Grande or Nationale (their called Sous Chef de Chemin de Fer s at this levgel). It is also every Voyageurs job. No members, no organization, pretty simple. A quick look at our standing. As of the 26 th of October, we stand 13th in place on the Nationale level with 55.27% of our membership paid for We have 6 of our 34 Locales at 100%. Congratulations to Locales 880, , 1120, 1352 and Great work. Our Grande is still 420 short. We can do it! The week prior, the 19th of October, Grande du Florida was in 22nd place at Nationale and we were only 51,44% with 456 Voyageurs unpaid. So, as you see we are moving up and we have to keep moving in that direction till we hit 100% and beyond. Hope to see many of you at the Space Coast wreck in Palm Bay. I know Voiture 1621 has been working hard and practicing to make it a good one, you won t want to miss it. Mac McCarthy Chef de Train Grand du Florida macpat408@aol.com Grand Advocat / Protocol Other than the Space Coast Wreck, November and December are holiday months with little going on in the Grand officially. A good time to review Chapter 5 of our Ritual Manual on "Protocol and Courtesy". Get yourself ready for the new year. November is the Marine Corps Birthday, Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving. We also have Army at Air Force on the 4th. Pat Beamer Director Grand Protocol Grand Avocat du FL gpatbeamer@bellsouth.net Grand Ritual November is a busy month for all of us; the start of the holiday season and the celebration of Veteran s Day. Veteran s Day (formerly Armistice Day proclaimed in 1919) is always a day of reflection for each of us about our service to this Great Country! It is also an opportunity to gather together showing our respect and gratitude to each other, our fallen brothers and sisters, our brothers and sisters currently serving and our community. Prior to the many parades and memorial services, don t forget to review our Ritual & Manual of Ceremonies for proper courtesy and protocol due the flag and those Veterans who have passed to the great beyond. 5 Grand Conducteur I would like to thank the Grande Du Florida and Grande De Florida Officers, Voyageurs and Dames, PG s and Guest s that attended the Seminar in Crystal River, Florida on October 7 th, As always, we had a great training session and I look forward to Space Coast Wreck in November. Although this was not a Voiture locale 1219 activity, it is important to thank those from V-1219 and C-1219 that made the event such a success and I thank them for their support. Again, as officers we need to make protocol an important part of all Grande and locale functions and please remember to acknowledge the Nationale officers in attendance. Protocol is important and by acknowledging those voyageurs who have moved through the locale, Grande and Nationale chairs, they deserve to be recognized for the accomplishments they have made and continue to make the 40/8 successful. God Bless. Mike Klyap Jr 5849 West Cisco Street Beverly Hills, Florida Ph: mklyap@gmail.com Publiciste Attention Voyageurs and Dames, The Grand du Florida website has been updated 20 Oct There is much information needed for publication on the website i.e officer lists, current addresses, phone numbers if you wish, even flyers etc. pictures of Grand du Florida Chef de Gare and Grand du Florida Officers each Voitures Chef de Gares and all other officers. Brief bios on each would be a plus. Every organization of all types including our personal relationships rise or fall on one failure and that is the failure to communicate. Please help us help you, one another, and the great organization of La Societe des Quarant Hommes et Huit Chevaux. The markers are set at each kilometer of Patton's route from Sainte Mere Eglise to Metz. The Saus- Bridges Post 13 of the American Legion placed the marker at its location at 229 Lake Ella Drive, Tallahassee, in On January 15, 2015 the newly restored marker was rededicated. The 2018 Box Car Pins, Crew and Associate Cards, are available for order with payment or on consignment (Pins $3.00 and Cards $1.00). I just want to remind everyone that you cannot order any for 2018 if you have an outstanding balance. This "box car pin" is number 5 (five), I am very sure that everyone that Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 5

is promoting Box Car have them already in their possession by now, and will be wearing them proudly. Box Car is the only program that does not keep any monies, the organization donates all monies made back to all of the programs in need. What an awesome organization, wherever and whenever that there is a need here comes Box Car to the rescue. Box Car raises money primarily through the sales of pins, crew cards, and associate cards. While Crew Cards can ONLY be sold to Voyageurs; Associate Cards and program pins may be purchased by anyone wishing to support the program. Please make sure that all monies be paid by check or money order made payable to Grand du Florida and mailed to me or John Kaiserian. If mailing to John, please make sure that you , text, or call me so I will know that your Voiture is paid in full. As a reminder, please do not hold onto "checks", the bank will not accept them, after a certain date they become "old". The box car pins are in a "Shadow Train" series when complete will be a Train engine pulling three box cars and a Caboose. The box car pins are from the following years, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and Remembing that the NBCA (National Box Car Association) program provides monies to every program in need. WOW!! such an awesome program as every program in the 40 et 8. The program cannot be successful without your support, I need your continued participation. Hope to see you all at the Space Coast wreck Jesse D. Hixson 4825 E. Hwy 98 Panama City, FL (850) powmiafl@gmail.com Voiture Activities Happy November to Everyone, First, I want to apologize for not being at the seminar/picnic to explain this program to you, but personal business after the hurricane had to be my first priority. Prior to submitting this month's article, I checked the Nationale website and the 2018 Voiture Activities Report form is not available as of yet; and I have no idea whether there are plans to Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 6

revamp this report. I will keep you informed once it's on the website and of any changes from the past year's form. Last month I reported about having Rolling Stock and how to keep track of when using it for events. On the form there are two columns to keep track of miles and dollar amounts spent for the event for which it is being used. PLEASE UNDERSTAND that these two columns are only for when Rolling Stock is actually used. These two columns are not to be used for the number of miles Voyageurs traveled to an event, the amount spent on travel or money spent for activity. Voiture Activities is only interested in the event/activity and the number of Voyageurs involved (if Dames involved the number should be included in with Voyageurs). Again, only the miles and dollar amounts should be listed IF the Voiture has Rolling Stock and used it for an event/activity. Last month I provided suggestions for November activities. For December here is an idea: Help collect toys for local toy drive. In the area where my Voiture is located we have a doctor who does this every year. All toys and donations he collects stays within the county. We have provided items and cash in the past years. Plan, if possible, for the Voiture to do something for veterans in a nursing home or care facility. I have many suggestions I can provide if you contact me. (Don't want to make this a lengthy article with ideas.) I feel if you are interested in one of the suggestions, you can contact me. ( s are answered within same day and phone calls the same.) Have a Happy Thanksgiving from Murph#3 and myself...take a moment to give thanks for all you have and remember our troops who can not be home for the holiday. I know it is early in the game but there are Hero s, Law Enforcement Officer s, City of the Year and Americanism nominees out there every day. Again, if help is needed I am here to assist and I look forward to receiving nominations for this awards in the coming months coming from our Voiture Locales. I ask that each Voiture not only prepare for awards to be given at Grande for your voiture, but also prepare and start planning your awards to be chosen for Grande Du Florida and Nationale. The Special awards that the Voiture locales should be preparing to submit are listed below. Americanism City of the Year Voyageur of the Year Law officer of the Year Hero of the Year I would like to see each voiture locale submit an entry for each of the awards listed above for the upcoming year. Keeping newspaper articles, photographs and a pedigree on your recommended awardees from now till the DEADLINE of May 15 th of 2018 will help you a lot. I will be glad to help put together the presentation and assist in anyway. Looking forward to each Voiture Locales support during the next year. IN SERVICE ALAWYS TO LA SOCIETE. No Directeur Child Welfare I don't have the number of Voyageurs/Dames registered, But I don't think the Grand Seminar/Picnic was that well attended, However, with the events of two Special Grand Cheminots the Seminar was very informative. Especially so for our newer Voyageurs. We need to promote the Seminar/Picnic at our Locale Promenade as it is the best place to ask questions and discuss the programs of the 40/8. Due to unforeseen circumstances I never had the opportunity to explain the National Child Welfare Program. In brief, in view of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, I am sure there are children in your area that could use help as many have lost everything. Your local schools and churches know the children in need. The Ardrey Trust fund can reimburse you up to $ per child. Space limits all the requirements in this article but they are on line at the National Web Site. What better time to help an in need family, than Thanksgiving? Locale C.W. Directeurs, if you have not ordered your 2018 Child Welfare Pins yet contact me and I will have them in the mail within 24 Hours. Winter Park Fl, Home Cell 4donsummers@gmail.com Youth Sports I had the privilege to attend Voiture #1219 s annual youth sports function on September 30th and was glad to see that they could raise some money for the youth sports program. It was also good to see the younger Voyageurs helping in support their youth sports program. In addition, I, attended the Grand Seminar in Crystal River on October 7 th, 2017 and met some Voyageurs from other locales and could pass on some information regarding the youth sports program. Again, there is money available to help offset your costs when helping with your local youth programs. As Grand Du Florida Youth Sports director I again am asking that each Chef de Gare and Voiture locale Youth Sports Director to take part in the Grand Du Florida Youth Sports program. Voyageur 199 was recently reimbursed $ through the Youth Sports grant program allowing them to continue to help the Challenger program in their area. Let us stay active, participate in the Youth Sports program, and strive to allow Grande Du Florida to be the best in the Nation. By this commitment, teamwork, pride in our locale and the pride of Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 8
