This is my command: Love each other. ~ John 15:16-17 September 11 Blessing of the Students Each year, churches from around Grand Rapids get together to pray for students, teachers, schools and the community at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at 5pm. Start your school year off right! Then join us at Pizza Hut in Eastown for free pizza until 8pm. September 18 Youth Group Planning & Pizza 1-3pm in the youth room After church, we are going to meet in the youth room from 1-3pm for pizza and to give input into the selection of the new Youth Director as well as make suggestions for things we will do in youth group this year! September 19 -Christian College Fair Join us as we learn about universities from around the country! Meet at Madison Place at 6pm. We will be back by 9pm. If you re going on your own, the fair is from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Bernice Hansen Center at Cornerstone University. You can register online and save time at myblueprintstory.com (please do this if you re attending) September 25 ~ Youth Group Kickoff! We will have worship, wings & pizza, introduce our leaders and our fall series Chosen. This semester, we are going to look at how God has chosen us for a purpose. So often we think we have to get it together before we can serve God, but realizing that he chose us first, can be a game changer. Join us as we explore John 15 this semester! Our goal this year is that we would discover who we are in Christ and see how God can do great things in and through our lives.

2 October 2 Art Prize Experience Join us as we head downtown to check out Art Prize Together. This year s experience will challenge us to see how God is at work in the both artists and in our own lives. Each D Group will go to a different area of Art Prize for a unique activity, then they will go out for some tasty treats at a local restaurant together. Be at Madison Place promptly at 5pm as we will be heading out asap. We will return to Madison Place by 7:30pm. Remember No Slip=No Trip October 9 ~ Chosen to Bear Fruit that Lasts ~ Tonight we will continue to unpack our theme as we explore what it means to see fruit that lasts come from our lives. So many of us think that we have to wait until we are older to make a difference or see our dreams come true. But what about this year? This week? Tonight, we are going to consider the goals we have for ourselves and think about what it means to bear much fruit. October 16 ~ No Youth Group FALL YOUTH RETREAT The Where U At Urban Youth Conference October Where U At is by teens for teens and will be a chance for you to get away from it all and spend time with God and your friends. Each year, teens look forward to a life changing weekend that will launch them into the next step on their spiritual journey. If you ve been trying to figure out where you re at with God or what your next step should be, then come to this conference! Our speakers will be Dr. Rene Rochester from PHAT STAR Ministry in Texas and Pastor Paul Fernandes from Faith Family Shiloh in St. Louis. There s a teen led praise team and drama team as well as fun on the go cart track, zip line, climbing wall, 3 on 3 basketball tournament and evening parties. It will be at Timberwolf Young Life Camp. The Cost is $99. You can do serve to earn to pay for the whole thing. Be at Madison at 5pm eat before you come. We will be home Sunday at 2:30pm. If you ve got a game or Friday night school commitment, let us know and we might be able to accommodate you. Whatever happens, be at Where U At you won t regret it! October 23 ~ Chosen ~ Your Name Matters ~ Tonight we will continue our study of John 15 as we think through our chosen name. We will also have an opportunity to add our name to the graffiti walls in youth room with paint or spray paint. Please dress accordingly. October 30 ~ Service Night ~ We will meet at Madison Square Church (2 doors down from Madison Place) for pizza at 5pm. Then we will work in teams to set up for No Fear Here, a safe and fun alternative to Halloween where we welcome over 1,000 kids from the community to play games, eat dinner and stock up on candy! Monday October 31 No Fear Here Come for a Serve to Earn Night where you will serve in a variety of areas to ensure kids have an awesome and safe night. Please arrive at 5:30pm for orientation and to get a tshirt. This service opportunity runs from 6:30-9:30pm. You can stay for all or a part of the night, but you must sign up by October 30.

3 Madison Youth Group Details: Who s Invited? All 9 th -12 th Grade Students are welcome to attend, it doesn t matter which Madison Campus, what church you go to or where you re at with God, we hope you will visit our Youth Group! Permission Slips: Return them to the office or at Youth Group to be able to go on field trips! Once you turn it in, it s good for the entire year. You can get a permission slip on our website or at Youth Group. Friends are always welcome, but for activities remember NO SLIP = NO TRIP!! standup Profess Your Faith & Baptism As your church family we want to walk you through the basics of what that means to accept Christ and celebrate this 1st step in your journey with you! A Mentor walks you through understanding what it means to be a Christ follower, writing your testimony & learning to share it in your own way. Call or Ms. Christy to sign up! Ways for Teens to Get Connected to Serve at Madison: Do you LOVE to worship? Madison welcomes teens on worship teams! Both singers and musicians are needed to serve on worship teams in youth group and on Sunday mornings. Teens are needed to help out with kids in 2 nd to 6 th grade in Madison Girls and Cadets who meet on Wednesday nights. We also need helpers in nursery on Sunday Morning. Talk to Ms. Christy or Ms. Kristi klewis@madisonsquarechurch.org) to get connected! Families are Needed to Help Out! Families are ALWAYS welcome to attend any youth group any time. Currently, we NEED youth group families to make food, chaperone trips, drive the van and serve as leaders. Do you need cash for the youth group activities we do? You can sign up to earn money by doing various service projects, earning $5/hour towards youth group activities. You must sign up to participate. How Do I Sign Up? Call Mr. Andrew to sign up by Fridays at 4pm before the project Date. You can also him at a.mclaucherty@yahoo.com Why Do Serve to Earn? Here are some reasons to do Serve to earn For Field Trips Like Silver Ring Thing ($25), Ice Skating ($5), Pando ($20), etc. Spring Break College Tour - Approx. $350. The Where U At Urban Youth Conference ($99) Kids Across America Kamp - June ($110) Pittsburgh Project ($175) Can I use my serve to earn to pay for my friends? No, Sorry. If your friend needs STE, bring them along! What do we do each week? It depends on the season and the needs. Sample projects: raking leaves, registering people to vote, cleaning around the church, picking up trash, gardening, helping people to move, handing out flyers, writing encouragement notes, etc. Always dress in layers and in old clothes so that you re prepared no matter what we do. What if I signed up but I need to cancel? You can cancel without penalty until 9am on Saturday morning. Because we have to know how many people to plan a project for, if you sign up and don t come, you lose $20 from your account. What if I m Late? If people are coming late, they only get paid for the time they are there. We cannot wait for someone to arrive at church for an offsite project. They will have to find their own transportation there. Can I get a ride? We cannot guarantee rides at this time, please ask Andrew if there are rides for that particular day. How long does the money I earn last? The Serve to Earn Season runs from September to August. If you don t use the money you have accumulated, you lose it August 31 st. Everyone s account resets on September 1. Can I get cash back for the hours that I serve? No. How can I find out when Serve to Earn Happens? At youth group we ll make announcements about serve to earn, you can also check the Madison Square Church High School Youth Group Facebook page, and your . You can also call Andrew for details (and to sign up). What Can I Do To Earn Serve to Earn Dollars? Saturday Service or Special Projects that are set up specifically for serve to earn by Mr. Andrew Working in the office at a time where Serve to Earn has established with prior approval from Mr. Andrew Can I Count Other Service for Serve to Earn? In order to make it fair for everyone, volunteering in other places won t be considered serve to earn. If Saturdays don t work for you, we can try to set up another time for you to volunteer.
