2 Introduction Hey GRHO! My name is Jessica and I am a sophomore student at the University of Georgia. I am majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Women s Studies, and an intended certificate in Personal and Organizational Leadership. Here are some fast facts about me. Strengths Quest 1. 3 Responsibilities Breakdown The Associate Director of Promotions shall: 1. Edit, publish, and distribute at least three GRHO newsletters per office term. 2. Assume the duties of Director if he/she is unable to complete the term of office. 3. Submit a comprehensive written report at the annual GRHO conference detailing the activities of the Associate Director of Promotions office during the previous year. 4. Be responsible for recruitment of Georgia schools to join GRHO 5. Create packets for recruitment to be distributed throughout the year. 6. Be accountable for statistical/affiliation information given to the GRHO Executive Board. 7. Be responsible for distributing and receiving affiliation and re-affiliation forms to Georgia schools. 8. Inform all members of the registration process for local, regional and national conferences utilizing the GRHO listserv. 1. While my role within UGA RHA has not specifically required me to work on newsletters, for the past two years I have partnered with my mother to create a Christmas newsletter that details all of the events that happened over the course of a year for myself and my family members. These newsletters have been an annual tradition since I was born and are sent across the country to various friends and family. 2. Within my role as Vice President of UGA RHA, I am required to assume the duties of not only the President, but any role which is left unfilled. This has made me very flexible and knowledgeable of all positions on my board, and is something I am fully capable and prepared to do within the GRHO Board, should the need arise. 7. & 8. These two responsibilities require someone who is capable of managing and maintaining clear lines of communication. This translates into sending a multitude of s and utilizing social media platforms. Through my work with UGA RHA and being a manager for my job s social media presence, I believe I possess the skills required to fulfill this role. This is more exciting than 10,000 dinglehoppers! 6. I am proficient in all Google programs through Google Drive, which is the system currently used by the GRHO Board to keep track of affiliation information. 3. As a part of the Executive Board of the UGA RHA, I have been required to keep a detailed report of my activities this year to be organized into a transition report for the next Vice President. I am no stranger to keeping a detailed record of my activates and am fully capable of transferring these skills to GRHO. 4. This past summer I coordinated the recruitment of freshman students into RHA at their Summer Orientation Fairs. I am able to form relationships with others quickly and market a brand towards a specific audience. 5. Throughout this year I have created multiple packets for the future use of the UGA RHA Exec Board including, but not limited to, the Orientation and Hot Topics Workshop packet. 2

4 9Experience My RHA journey began my freshman year when I started out as President of my hall council (Payne Hall Council). There I developed a passion to work with a diverse group of individuals towards a common goal. Within that role, my team and I created as many opportunities for residential growth as possible. Some highlights of the year during my term were our Chinese New Year program, understanding masculinity program: Be A Man, and even a Payne Hall Camping Trip. While in this position I had the opportunity to attend my first ever GRHO conference and I immediately fell in love with the people, atmosphere, and mission. This year I have served as the Vice President of the University of Georgia s Residence Hall Association where I have been the head of Internal Development, coordinated RHA s activities in regards to other on-campus student organizations, and worked with my fellow executive board members to create programs that uphold the UGA University Housing s mission statement. Part of my role as Head of Internal Development has been developing a leadership curriculum to be made for hall council members use. This year we were fortunate enough to host two programs. The first, Hot Topics Workshop, discussed common issues hall council members run into while in their roles and provided resources to combat said issues. In our second program, Find Your Inner StrengthsQuest residents were allowed to take the StrengthsQuest assessment and critically reflect on how they could use their personalized results to make positive change within their residence halls and as students at the University of Georgia. Additionally, within my role as VP, I have had the pleasure of working with outside organizations for various tasks such as, but not limited to, coordinating Summer Orientation Activities Fairs, working with bin allocations, and collaborating on RHA s involvement with on-campus diversity initiatives such as International Coffee Hour. Within my involvement with Residence Life I have had experience working with a diverse team, representing RHA s brand to potential members, keeping track of records as well as creating content to be used in future years all qualities that would transfer well into the ADP position. 3

5 Jumpin jellyfish! Those are some good goals! Goals for GRHO I believe that GRHO has momentum. Over the past two years there has been a lot of positive work done within this organization to ensure that being an affiliate school means having access to a rich database of resources that assist in the success of Residence Hall Associations across the state. As it stands, the benefits of affiliated schools are having access to previous bids, connectivity to other Georgia schools, and gaining awards for programs and student leadership. I would like to create a more in depth profile system of commonly asked questions about affiliated schools (i.e., school size, hall council system, RA involvement/partnership) so that we have a more in depth look at the diversity within the GRHO affiliated schools. As for the schools that only affiliate every other year, every three years, etc., I would like to reach out and discover what it is that makes these schools affiliate in this pattern and work with the other GRHO members to provide better resources to their delegations. In regard to the resources available to affiliate schools that currently exist, my goal is to expand upon those resources by adding a segment that assists in providing solutions to common issues that RHA s face. This can be done by creating actual material documents or by highlighting the web of communication so that schools who are experiencing the same issues can brainstorm solutions together which further supports the initiative to foster a more solidified GRHO community. 4

7 Examples of Past Work I believe in creating content that lasts. These are some samples of the work I have done in the past year that are detailed enough to be used for future Exec Boards at UGA. In working with an organization like GRHO, it is important to realize that the work put forth by individuals is much bigger than their year in office. It s about taking what has been given to you and making it even better for future use. 6
