3 HIGHLIGHTS Participation in the National Name Exchange increased in 2002, from 2,693 in 2001 to 3,834 in 2002, an increase of approximately 42.4%. From 2001 to 2002, female participation increased by 38.1%; male participation increased by 43.2%. Mexican American/Chicano student number continued to decrease, from 13% of the total population in 2001 to 11.7% in Asian American student numbers increased, though participation decreased from 37% of the total pool in 2001 to 32.7% in Puerto Rican participation increased slightly and comprises 3% of the 2002 population. American Indian participation increased in 2002, from 57 students in 2001 to 80 in American Indian students remain approximately 2% of total participants. Numbers increased across the board for all disciplines in Professional Fields had the most students represented (1,229 participants). 3
