7 THE ACA- DEMY For more than forty years the Accademia della moda has been operating in the field of education in fashion and design. Born in Naples in the 1960s from an idea by Domenico Lettieri, master of the sartorial art, who in those years wanted to create a system to bring new life to the old world of tailors, today l Accademia della moda is a certainty for those young people who want to pursue a career in that world. The Institute offers a wide range of training courses, from fashion and Interior design, to industrial modeling, protected by a copyright system, for all areas of clothing (man, woman, child, casual wear, underwear, corsetry and underwear, shirts) and shoes. All courses are taught using the latest equipment and with the use of the most up-to-date industry software. Our teachers are all professionals with several years of professional experience in teaching and in in the firms. They are always engaged in the follow-up of programs and topics to be treated, responding to the ongoing needs of our business partners. That is why the professionals formed at our Institute are easily positioned within the companies of the sector, thus enabling us to have a very high insertion rate of our students.

8 8 STUDENT S GUIDE Our locations The Accademia della moda has two locations, both located in Naples, Campania, organised as follows: Main location Our main location in Naples is in the immediate vicinity of the central station to allow an easy access from the Campania region to neighboring ones. Separated Branch Naples separated office is located nearby the headquarter, the central station, the terminal bus and parking space computer labs are provided with the most modern systems for computer graphics, both for design and for the decor, as well that of the most advanced modelling software moreover each class has a video systems projection.

10 10 STUDENT S GUIDE STUDEN- TS SERVICES The administrative office The administrative office is responsible for all matters related to the administrative and educational life of the students from the enrolment to the examinations. The service is open to the public from Monday to Friday. You can contact the office through an service by writing to the address segreteria@accademiamoda.it. In this way, you will be able to request certificates of attendance and enrolment, and ask questions concerning administrative matters and teaching. Naples location Via G. 11 Entry orientation Exit orientation The didactic office carries out informational interviews with its experts and orientation lessons with teachers to direct students toward the path that best responds to their aptitudes and talents. A group of counsellors organizes meetings every year at colleges, to guide graduating students on the possible job opportunities in fashion and Design and the different professional figures of the sector. The Accademia also organizes every year Open Days, during which interested students can attend orientation lessons, visit the school, talk with our graduating students and receiving information about the most requested professional figures in this area. The office helps graduating or neo-graduates students to choose a professional path consciously, consistent with their aptitudes and aspirations and it informs them about the working sector in which they will be able to find a satisfying professional accomplishment. The activities related to the integration into the workplace of our students are, namely: organizing workshops, helping them in filling out their resumes, market research for employment opportunities, simulations of job interviews and introducing our students to the firms of the sector.

12 12 STUDENT S GUIDE Foreign students Scholarships Accademia della Moda implements a series of initiatives to support deserving students who intend to continue their studies at our institution. RIGHT TO STUDY The Academy of Fashion, pertains to l Adisu L Orientale for the allocation of Scholarship housing for foreign students. The Institute offers to foreign students who wish to follow one of our courses with all necessary information and assistance in visa application for study and in the subsequent presentation of the documentation for the residence permit. SCHOLARSHIPS Every year, the Academy offers different scholarships to new graduates who participate in various competitions. STUDENT MOBILITY Erasmus + program, can grant stays and programs finalized to offer study experience abroad in European universities with which Academia della Moda has signed a specific bilateral agreement. The program Erasmus + study is a mobility program promoted by the European Union, so we guarantee the full academic recognition of educational activities completed abroad, and the right to use the same services that the host institution offers to its students. ACCOMMODATION SEARCH SERVICE The Academy provides assistance and support in looking for private accommodation for nonresident students. A warm welcome is an excellent business card to encourage foreign students to choose Naples as the venue for the studying abroad. Accademia della Moda employs several initiatives to welcome them with the collaboration of Erasmus Point Naples, Associations Student, ATM Europe (CEICC) and specialized agencies in the field of searching for private accommodation for students away from home.

14 14 STUDENT S GUIDE Web site accademiadellamoda.it The web site of the Accademia della moda is a source of real-time information available to the student who wants to have at hand all the news about the Institute. The refined design of the new site did not leave aside the great functionality that is essential for the rapid retrieval of information. The site presents itself as a huge virtual Bulletin Board, where in addition to the teaching information, the employees publish all the news related to the activities in which the Accademia della moda is involved, students competitions and, in particular, job ads. On the site it is also possible to see the school rules, the General regulations, the Manifesto of studies, the regulation of the library, of the computer rooms and the tailoring rooms, and the regulations of the students. The site also has a section dedicated to the companies, which can directly contact the Orientation Office to find the professional figures they need.

15 The library Recreation area The main activities of the library of the Accademia della moda are the acquisition, collection, preservation, cataloging, handling and valorization of printed, iconographic, audio and video materials (books-magazines carnet...).the library is divided into 4 areas, 23 sectors and sub-sectors, each numbered with an alphanumeric code in ascending order. Inside the library there is a designed position for the research and archival of the electronic books. The space is equipped with a 40-inch monitors; link to internet h24; a printer; the selected books from the archive are available on large tables. The library is equipped with cameras working 24h. The considerable patrimony available is based on a careful work of collecting, analyzing and comparing with bibliographies about significant areas for our teaching offer and updated stylistic research. Corso Lucci branch, students have also a recreation area (indoor and outdoor) where students can interact with each other, exchange ideas about courses and activities or study during breaks. The Consultation of the material is open to students and teachers during the opening hours. Cataloging is easy to use and accessible to the public, thanks to the division into dedicated shelves.

18 18 STUDENT S GUIDE moda è The Accademia della moda is the publishing house for the fashion book Moda è which was published twice a year from the 2004 to the 2010, and from the 2011 in one edition per year. The periodical Moda è stands as the system for submitting to insiders, entrepreneurs, technicians of the clothing and fashion enthusiasts, original ideas and creative proposals. The main intent of the trend book Moda è is to study and research on new trends of fashion and design, which are proposed to insiders, but also to simple lovers just in the first pages of the magazine. In addition to include so many articles on the world of fashion, design, of Italian and foreign fashion shows and events that revolve around this area, the newspaper also contains articles, selected by a Committee composed of experts, of the students of the Accademia, as well as those of many designers from other schools, who win every year several scholarships made available. The magazine reaches all of Italy, fashion companies that subscribe to our magazine to be informed on the results of the research produced, high school of the South and many schools and universities abroad, working as an active part of the magazine s realization. From the 2012 the site has become a real information portal, with news, photos, statements, trivia, contests, job offers and a space where interact among yourselves and with the editorial staff. The Accademia della moda has a large archive containing all papers, final projects and theses of our graduate students: book of fashion, book of hobbies, Interior Design projects, research and interior design, related to the disciplines being studied.

21 Main artistic and cultural activities Cooperation with organizations and institutions The Accademia della moda, during the last ten years, has been dedicated to the organization of a series of events, related to topics and themes particularly felt at that time, followed by industry experts, professionals and personalities from the world of art, culture and institutions. With events like Tra arte e moda2013 dedicated to the world of design and fashion and Party Rinascimento, an exhibition of projects made by the students of fashion and architecture, the school offered to participating young designers the opportunity to compete to win various prizes, such as internships in famous companies of the sector, scholarships and study abroad vacation programmes. The Accademia della moda represents a meeting point between our graduates and businesses who are looking for young people, through a capillary action of orientation with all the students approaching graduation, thanks to the collection of all the job requests coming from our partner companies and through our internships agreement. 24 24 STUDENT S GUIDE Training objectives (180 CFA) Job opportunities The Three year diploma in Design and Interior architecturehas the aim of providing the student with the necessary skills to develop an interior design project in its various stages: from the concept to the design and the meta-design up to the control of the actual implementation of the project. The fundamental skills acquired during the course concern: The reading of the users needs as well as the social, cultural and psychological aspects that affect the ergonomic method of use of the spaces. The development of innovative design solutions consistent with the different ways of using the rooms by their users. The ability to grasp the relationship between the design and the size of the services that are provided within these spaces, especially for specific types of interiors. Once completed the studies, the graduate will represent a highly qualified professional figure, he/ she will be perfectly able to start the profession and professional activities at companies. Other areas of work for the interior designer are businesses retail/visual merchandising -oriented as well as professional studies and design firms concerned about functional transformation activities of factories, offices and industrial structures.

28 28 STUDENT S GUIDE I Year History of modern art The module is aimed at learning the history of Italian art between 1400 and the During the lessons there will be analysed examples of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque urban public spaces. Interior architecture I The course aims to investigate, experiment and develop highly innovative space projects, helping to develop in the students a conceptual awareness and application of instrumental-practical spaces project. In a first phase there will be handled basic notions, that will help the student to acquire a vision, in the second one there will be examined the characteristic elements of an accommodation. Fundamentals of computer design The purpose of the course is to provide students the principles of digital design, they will be followed in implementing the design and in the transition from paper to digital, with the help of the best programs on the market. Design I The course aims to transfer students the basics notions of architectural drawing. The student will be followed step by step in learning drawing techniques for a proper space representation design.

29 Types of materials I The course aims to illustrate the physical-chemical and mechanical properties of the main classes of materials and the most important technologies for the production of manufactured goods used in the industry.the course will provide students with the ability to select the most suitable materials and production technologies for the manufacture of a product and to assess the validity of alternatives depending on requirements and costs. Cultural Marketing fundamentals The course aims to transfer to the learner all the main concepts concerning marketing from its foundations to the strategic and operational aspects, the policies to be implemented,and to focus on the most interesting economic sectors and their application in social and cultural contexts. Lighting engineering Lighting is the set of tools and techniques that make a given environment, whether closed or open, usable also in total or partial absence of natural light. The course aims to provide the knowledge and basic skills related to technical physics that deals with appropriate lighting environments.

30 30 STUDENT S GUIDE II Year History of contemporary art This course outlines the history of art and design through the analysis of the authors theories and the evolution of objects from the late 19th century to the present, from the concept of applied arts to the definition of industrial design, with particular attention to the production of Italian design in the second half of the twentieth century and the relationship with contemporary art. Interior architecture II The course deals with the study of the accommodation through a brief discussion on the historical evolution and the concept of the house as a social factor. Afterwards, it will be examined the quantitative and qualitative parameters that affect the shape and size of rooms, creating a first basic structure of spaces. The course continues with a detailed description of each environment from a theoretical and dimensional design point of view. Design II The aim of the course is not the object, but the acquisition of a design methodology that allows students to deal with design challenges. Dealing with the development of a project starting from the knowledge and analysis of the problem, moving toward the stage of the concept where the designer identifies the creative idea to apply to the next project. In order to have a comprehensive account of the project, are required multimedia, technical and narrative materials, as a professional project. Design culture The course aims to provide the skills and knowledge to interface with the user/customer during the elaboration of a project. Through the lessons, the student will learn to manage commercial and communicative aspects of the report with commitment.

31 Textile culture In order tobe approved by the customer, a furnishing projecthas to be feasible and profitable, it is crucial to know about fibers and textiles and choose them according to trends, assessing market fundamental characteristics, quantity, cost, weight. Design methodologies (plant design) The course covers the basic principles of electrical and water connectionsdesign, with particular emphasis on their harmony in a given environment, taking into account the concept of energy saving. Types of materials II The course aims to introduce students to the knowledge of materials of architectural interest, knowledge essential to the architect for rational design choices and suitable application in the executive phase. The latter concerns the use of old and new building materials, such as binders, bricks, metals (steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper), stones, wood, glass and plastics. Digital modeling techniques - Computer 3D This teaching includes the collection of knowledge related to digital processing of images in a 3D environment. Applications range from construction and reconstruction of three-dimensional environments, design and representation of objects and artifacts. In addition, features such as automatic generation of prospects, creating two-dimensional views, shading and rendering, offer many possibilities of application and use. The second part of the course addresses the rendering and animation 3DStudio Max software to create, view and confirm, three-dimensional objects in different complexity with the applications of surfaces of materials. The lessons provide the technical instruments to realize a graphical representation of products and architectures with lighting techniques and application of materials (texturing). Light Design Design of light, in each field of visual communication, visual sitting up, architecture, and city planning. This module will deal with the whole creative and administrative production chain, by using the most innovative technologies and specific software. The module will include also the study of materials, the knowledge of tools, design, cultural heritage, and lighting engineering.

32 32 STUDENT S GUIDE III Year Anthropology of Art The aim of the course is to provide students with the tools for the understanding of an architectural project, as well as a general knowledge about the main subjects and protagonists of the history of contemporary Art. Interior architecture III During the course, the issues already dealt in the first and second year will be deepen, it will be introduced a third orientation to interior design using an advanced approach which conveys the student towards the knowledge of essential factors and determinants in order to structure a functional, usable planimetric plant, with significant spatial content. Design III The student must demonstrate to have acquired a design methodology in the implementation of projects with a greater level of complexity and with a more in-depth definition of formal and technical details. Urban design The primary purpose of urban designers is to propose a connection between people and places, urban form and function, environment and building fabric, to restore places of beauty and identity through design choices that will coordinate the all the decisions concerning the administrative management, social equity and economic efficiency.

33 Virtual architecture Design Management The aim of this course is to provide students with basic skills to work also from a legal point of view. There will be addressed themes of law and legislation pertaining to the interior architecture. The course aims to provide students with threedimensional techniques, such as automatic generation of prospects, the execution of plans and sections, 3D animation and rendering, which make it possible to verify the volume of the spaces designed to realize a detailed project through its real representation so to modify it in order to experiment new solutions. Eco design The course aims to familiarize students with the basic elements of sustainable design, whose objective is the harmonic and non-invasive integration of architectural design with the environment in which it will be implemented.

34 34 STUDENT S GUIDE Training activities Extra teachings Students can freely choose activities with an overall value of 10 credits corresponding at least to 2 teachings provided by the Accademia della moda, either external or internal activities whose credits will be recognized by the Academic Council, to allow an equal distribution of the students, this activities have a limited number of participants. Extra teachings are activities (for a total of 4 credits) whose aim is to let students acquire language and computer skills or relational and telematics ones useful to the inclusion in the job market, as well as activities to facilitate professional choices, through the direct knowledge of the business sector of the course, including, in particular, internships and orientation courses. The internships consist of a period of professional practice and experimentation, through the implementation of individual or group projects in collaboration with other institutes or companies. The duration of the internship is proportionate to the needs of a particular topic covered by a teaching or to the final purposes of the course of studies.

37 Final exam To be admitted to the final exam, students must have earned 180 credits during the three-year curriculum, including those relating to the final test, English language and computer science. The final test, who has a value of 8 credits, is a thesis of project-artistic nature, which involves the production of composition or projects and a short essay on a topic specifically assigned by the teacher of the discipline where the student is enrolled.
