2 A-Levels at East Riding College You can do A-levels at East Riding College in two different ways. Firstly, you can do a full-time A-level programme at our Bridlington campus by picking up to four A-levels from the choice of 19 subjects. Secondly, you can add an A-level to many of our level three vocational courses. You can do this at our Beverley and Bridlington sites, though not all A-levels are available as additional courses. Our guidance officers can tell you more. For more information on a particular course, text ercadvice, followed by the text code for the course, to and one of our guidance officers will call you back within 48 hours. Our interviews are quite informal so please feel free to bring a relative or friend. A satisfactory interview, initial assessment and, for school leavers, a reference are required in addition to the entry criteria listed for your chosen course. Entry requirements Full-time A-level programme: To study up to four A-levels, you need five GCSE passes at A* to C including English and maths. Additional conditions may apply to certain subjects. Combined vocational course and A-level programme: The entry requirements are those given for the level three vocational course plus A-level subject requirements. See our full-time course guide for details. Financial help for 16 to 18-year-olds in 2013/2014 We ve developed an attractive package of financial support for 16 to 18-year-olds studying full-time courses during the 2013/2014 academic year. This includes: Free travel for those living more than two miles from their place of study (see below) Bursary of 1,200 (pro rata for courses of less than 30 weeks) for students who are: In care ( looked after ); care leavers; in receipt of income support; in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance Generous support for child care provided by the Care to Learn Scheme. Further information is available at A fully funded sports enrichment programme Support with purchasing essential equipment, subject to eligibility Free transport to College Fully funded travel is available to full-time 16 to 18-year-old learners living more than two miles from their place of study in 2013/14. Funding is available for the following on those days when attendance at College is required: 1. Travel by East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) buses. This includes services in the East Riding, Hull and North Yorkshire, including Scarborough and Filey 2. Travel on dedicated College services BC4 (starting in Withernsea) and BC8 (starting in Gilberdyke) 3. Travel by train or other public transport if an EYMS service or the BC4 and BC8 are not available Everyone who applies for a full-time course starting in September 2013 will be sent a form to enable them to apply for free transport to College. Support is at the discretion of the College and subject to satisfactory attendance. Travel on EYMS buses must involve the use of a discount card issued by the College via EYMS. It will provide you with skills very much in demand for a wide range of jobs and higher education study. A-level Maths will extend your knowledge of: Algebra Trigonometry Vectors Differentiation Integration Successful students may wish to progress onto a maths degree or other higher education course. A-level English Language and Literature Location: Beverley, Bridlington I Duration: One/two years I Text code: AL8 In this course, students are given a range of opportunities to study texts and practise producing their own writing for different audiences and purposes and to study prose, poetry and drama texts from a prescribed list. The course appeals to a wide range of students, offering the opportunity to examine and understand the English language and develop writing skills. Language, its use and effects in literary and non-literary texts Study of written and spoken texts Poetry, prose, drama and non-literary texts Creating texts for different audiences and purposes Successful students may wish to progress on to higher education. Students do not need to have studied law at GCSE. Law is an excellent qualification for a wide range of university courses. A-level Economics Location: Bridlington I Duration: One/two years I Text code: AL7 This course will be of interest to you if you are interested in how we make choices both as individuals and as a society. You will explore current economic and global issues and look at how economic theories relate to the financial markets and how they affect consumer and producer behaviour. You will also look at issues such as inflation, unemployment and economic growth. Unit one: Competitive Markets - How they work and why they fail. This unit provides an introduction to the nature of economics and examines how the price mechanism allocates resources in markets. It analyses the nature of market failure, its causes and possible remedies. Unit two: Managing the Economy. You will be introduced to the key measures of economic performance.
