An overview of the new electronic annual faculty reporting system will also be provided. The session will provide useful information for all agents. Local Program Marketing Using Logic Models to Plan and Evaluate Extension Education Programs Dr. Mary Arnold, 4-H Youth Development Specialist, Oregon State University Planning and delivering educational programs is an essential part of an Extension professional's work. When program planning is done through the use of logic modeling, opportunities for evaluation, scholarship, funding, and program enhancement become evident. This workshop will cover the basics of logic modeling, including how to plan educational programs using logic modeling, articulate program outcomes, and identify program evaluation opportunities. This session is targeted for Extension Specialists. Balancing Work and Family Life The Citizen-Scholar Experience: A new Collaboration Between VCE and the Virginia Tech Graduate School Dr. Karen DePauw, Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate School; Marc Fisher, Graduate Assistant, Graduate School, Virginia Tech Institutions of higher education continue to prepare students for service in the world by sheltering them within the walls of small classrooms and cramped laboratories. In this session, Dr. DePauw and Mr. Fisher will present to you a new program at Virginia Tech designed to prepare graduate students for the real world by having them experience the real world. In collaboration with VCE and other community organizations, graduate students will learn the leadership, citizenship, and professional skills they need to become "citizen-scholars." Risk Management Fred Weaver, Director of Risk Management, Virginia Tech An update of liability coverage related to Extension programs will be covered in this session. Specific topics will include personal and volunteer liability, additional liability insurance, third party liability, university liability coverage, automobile liability, and bus use agreements. The session will provide useful information for all unit coordinators. Time Management Promotion to Senior Agent Bill Whittle, Senior Extension Agent, ANR; Beverly Samuel, Senior Extension Agent, FCS; Christine Kastan, Senior Extension Agent, FCS This session will provide an overview of the process for promotion to senior agent, tips on how to prepare a complete dossier, and suggestions for writing strong impact statements. The panel will provide recommendations for deciding when to request promotion, as well as information on the importance of building a record of accomplishments throughout one s career. Working with the Media: Building Your P.R. Toolkit Lori Greiner, Communications Manager, CALS; Jeff Ishee, Farm Director, WSVA Radio, Harrisonburg, VA; Lois Carliri, Reporter, The Roanoke Times Being able to effectively promote Extension programs and activities to the general public is becoming increasingly important. This is especially true as we seek to develop new community partnerships and funding opportunities. Developing a good working relationship with your local media is the first step to creating a successful public relations program. Come learn how to build a P.R. Toolkit that will help you reach your target audiences and boost program awareness and participation. A panel of media experts will provide their insights into today s rapidly changing news media and will give pointers on how to get your programs and events front and center.
