3 Series. external experts Objective III: Increase financial support for students and ensure that the process for receiving funds from the Office of Student Success and Retention (SSR) is equitable, effective, and transparent Plan Coordinators: Paul Calme/Todd Everett and Kandi Stinson # Start Actions Completion Goal: To administer financial aid resources in an equitable and consistent manner 1. On-going The office of financial aid uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine students financial need. This is the federally mandated tool to assess financial need. Xavier follows this assessment in administering federal, state and institutional financial aid and undergoes an annual audit to ensure compliance. In cases where there may be a special situation such as loss of job by a parent, or other family financial changes, students may complete and submit a Xavier Special Circumstance form to the Office of Financial Aid. This allows the office of financial aid to reassess a student s financial situation and may lead to additional funds, all within the parameters set by the federal government. 2. On-going Enrollment Services Grants are initially determined by the Office of Student Success and Retention and are coordinated with the Office of Financial Aid keeping with federal and state guidelines 3. Goal: Systematically assess the effectiveness of the current process for distributing Enrollment Services Grants (ESG) through the Office of Student Success and Retention 1. Spring Directors in Student Academic Support Services (SASS), i.e. TRIO/SSS, SSR, Academic Advising, Learning Assistance Center (LAC) will carefully examine the current policy for clarity, accessibility, and transparency Undertake quantitative research similar to that conducted several years ago, to determine how Enrollment Services Grant funds have been distributed by gender, ethnicity, class year, etc., and their impact on GPA, retention, graduation, and other indicators of student success Kandi Stinson and SASS Directors Kandi Stinson, Dick Pulskamp Support from the Office of Institutional Research Goal: To modify the process for distributing Enrollment Services Grant funds as necessary to ensure that it is equitable and effective. 1. Fall Based on the results of the above assessment and research, SASS Directors will recommend to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs any necessary modifications and/or enhancements to the policy 2. Spring Associate Provost will act on the SASS Directors recommendations Goal: To make the process for distributing Enrollment Services Grant funds as transparent as possible SASS Directors May 16, Kandi Stinson 1. Spring The policy, with appropriate modifications, will be posted on the University website Goal: Strengthen effectiveness of student support offices 1. August 23, Student Support Services, The Writing Center, Career Services, Academic Advising, and the Learning Assistance Center will be integrated in the new Learning Commons in an effort to strengthen their effectiveness for all students. 2.
