19 The PSAT/NMSQT Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) A chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools

21 PSAT The PSAT will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 19 th at PHHS Registration is done online at The cost of the PSAT is $17.00

22 What is the New SAT? More curriculum based, similar to the ACT. The SAT includes four sections: 1. Reading Test (65 minutes total) 2. Writing and Language Test (35 minutes total) 3. Math Test (80 minutes total) 4. Essay (50 minutes total)-optional Total testing time is 3 hours (plus 50 minutes for the optional Essay.)

23 Changes to the SAT No wrong-answer penalty Score is based out of 1600 (800 for Math, 800 for Evidence- Based Reading & Writing. Optional essay will receive a separate score) 3 hours; 3 hours 50 minutes with optional essay Fewer questions with a greater focus on in-depth analysis of content Calculator for math no longer permitted for all math sections No sentence completions Focus on real world vocabulary in context Focus on analyzing Literature, Social Studies, and Science passages

24 Additional SAT Details School code: Scores may be sent to four colleges at no extra charge if selected during registration Consider taking the test twice School assistance available through PHHS after school program run by Mr. Kadar and NHS students Media Center after school Tuesdays and Thursdays until 3:30pm for English, Math, Science, and History.

25 The SAT Subject Tests Hour-long, content-based tests to showcase achievement in specific subject areas Twenty SAT Subject Tests in five general areas: 1. English 2. History 3. Languages 4. Mathematics 5. Science Check with colleges to see if they are required

26 The ACT The ACT is a standardized college-readiness and high school achievement assessment More curriculum-based than the current SAT The ACT contains five sections: minute English section minute Mathematics section minute Reading section minute Science Reasoning section minute Writing section (optional)
