Justin Kerber, C.P. On Wednesday, July 26, 2017, the people of the Diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina gathered together to celebrate the dedication of their new Cathedral, The Holy Name of Jesus. This Cathedral is now the 5th largest in the US and can seat about 2000 people. Fr. Justin Kerber, C.P. and Fr. Paul Wierichs, C.P. were among 2 Cardinals, over 30 bishops, and 250 priests to celebrate the dedication Bishop Michael Burbidge, former Bishop of Raleigh & current Bishop of Arlington Virginia, consecrated the new Cathedral. Newly named Bishop of Raleigh, Luis Rafael Zarama was in attendance as well. I had the honor of presenting the relics for the main altar, which included St. Paul of the Cross and St. Gemma Galgani. There is also a beautiful statue of St. Paul of the Cross in the cathedral donated by a benefactor in thanksgiving to God for the 60 years of Passionist ministry in North Carolina. Here s the special coverage from our local NBC affiliate: video/ / This link will show you the entire Dedication Mass of the new cathedral Youth Group from Sacred Heart Cathedral Retreat at Pittsburg Recently, the Sacred Heart Cathedral Youth Group visited the Passionists at St. Paul of the Cross Monastery in Pittsburgh. They did some amazing work for the community but also introduced their high school students to the Passionists and how they live out their vocation. Fr. 4 New PVI Volunteers for Jamaica, West Indies Victoria Iosue grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and recently graduated from John Carroll University where she majored in Communications with a concentration in Marketing. She enjoys reading, running, and hiking. Tori has experienced international service prior to PVI in countries including Guatemala, El Salvador, and Jamaica. She is excited to fully immerse herself in the culture, especially in learning how to speak Patois fluently. Tori is also looking forward to hiking the Blue Mountains and exploring the endless beauty of Jamaica! Kate Spence grew up in Red Bank, New Jersey and recently graduated from Loyola University Maryland. She graduated with a major in Communications with a concentration in Advertising and Digital Media. Kate has a passion for creating graphic design and art, playing soccer, and the beach is her favorite place to be. She has had experience teaching English and working at a refugee camp in Bangkok, Thailand; and she is excited for the new experience that lies ahead of her. Kate is most excited to learn how to cook authentic food like jerk chicken, and share in humanness with the people of Jamaica. Erica Clohessy graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in Chemical Engineering and after graduation, she continued on to do clinical research in Cincinnati, Ohio. She originally is from Muncie, Indiana where she fostered her passion for Irish dance, cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, and serving others. She was first introduced to service at a young age when her parents began to take her to Haiti to help with their non-profit foundation, which continues to support literacy skills of youth and adults alike. While living in Jamaica, Erica is most looking forward to walking with and learning from the people! Foster King recently graduated from John Carroll University with a major in Economics and a minor in Computer Science. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where he became passionate for playing soccer and being an avid Cleveland sports fan. During college, Foster traveled to Immokalee, Florida to advocate for the migrant farm workers in the community. He is looking forward to exploring the communities in Jamaica and getting to know the people. He is especially excited to use his passion for soccer to connect with the youth and to have fun outside!

5 Dr. Adele De Vera and Group's Trip to Jamaica, WI by Dr Adele De Vera We had a great summer. We went to rural Jamaica for our 6th medical mission this August 6-18, In a span of 2 weeks, we went to 8 schools, converting them into medical and dental exam rooms. We gave free physical and dental exams to 661 children and their teachers. We also distributed medicines to those who needed them. Each child was also given a bag of school supplies that they need for the school year. We also went to the rural clinics, giving family care and podiatry care to the patients. The service we give the families enables them to use their meagre financial resources on other essentials like housing, transportation and food. Please watch the video and consider supporting us for our 2018 mission. Our biggest expense are the bags and school supplies. Each bag, with the school supplies, costs approximately $7.00 per child. Dr. Adele is on the extreme left What is the connection with Dr. Adele and the Passionists? by Ana Raven Fr. Robert Joerger, C.P. and a few other Passionists gave missions at Dr. Adele s parish in New Hampshire a number of years ago. Adele wanted to help so she went down to Jamaica, WI on her own and volunteered her medical expertise to the Jamaican communities connected with the Passionists. Over the next few years, her volunteer week grew to include a number of medical staff, doctors, dentists, nurses, etc. So now each year she organizes a group to go to Jamaica WI. The Passionist Volunteers International (PVIs) also assisted Dr. Adele while she was injamaica.

Meet committed Catholics and Protestants reflect on their witness of service in China Pray with us at our Saturday evening Chinese Catholic Mass Father Rob Carbonneau, C.P. as Director of the US Catholic China Bureau, organized the entire event. Brs. Terence Skorka and Leo Di Fiore attended the Friday and Saturday sessions. It was very well attended and everyone enjoyed the speakers and performers. 12 Passionist profession class of th Reunion at Holy Family RH by Fr. David Cinquegrani, C.P. The Passionist profession class of 1967 has now held four reunions, once in Pittsburgh, once in Jamaica, and the last two in Hartford. Thirteen of the seventeen members of the class who could be located have attended over the years and all have expressed their profound thanks to the Passionist community for the amazing experience of being part of the community for different lengths of time. Everyone cited this experience as one of the most significant formative experiences of their lives. This year, there were also some guys from the class of Frs. Bill Murphy, Gerald Laba and Jim Schiffer are part of this class. The reunion included plenty of social fun but it was primarily the opportunity to reconnect with each other and share the stories and spirituality of each other s life journeys. Everyone is now around seventy years of age so there is much to share. The reunion was an amazing experience and everyone thanks the community for its warm hospitality to do this.
