Additional Detail (use table below to highlight specific successes of 2016/2017) I am extremely proud of the way we have managed to promote maximum involvement for all children within the school, whilst also gaining fantastic results throughout the year. In terms of involvement for all, below are some of the statistics that I am most proud of over the last academic year: - Every child in KS2 (over 120 children) made at least 2 appearances for the school in the last academic year. - In KS2, the total number of appearances we provided over the year was Our highest number of appearances by an individual was 51 (shared by two girls, one of which is Pupil Premium)- We were awarded Gold Sportsmark Status again, leading to us taking 4 children to the Ageas Bowl, home of Hampshire Cricket. We also achieved some phenomenal results on a local, county and even National level this year, made even more remarkable for a single form entry village school on the Isle of Wight. The highlights include: - Reaching the National Finals of the U11 Girls Football Competition, held on the pitch at Stoke City FC. Having won the Island competition, we went on to represent the Isle of Wight at Hampshire. We won that tournament and the next step was South West of England to be played in Bristol. We finished as runners up that day, enough to qualify us for the National Finals. In the National Finals, we narrowly missed out on the semi-finals, finishing 7 th place in England. - The U11 Girls also cleaned up domestically, winning the Danone Cup, the League and the Cup competitions. - Our U11 Girls Cricket team won the Island competition, meaning another trip to Bristol to represent the county at the South West of England finals at the prestigious Clifton College. - Newchurch qualified for 5 events at the Hampshire Games for the 2 nd year running (Netball, Basketball, Athletics, Girls Football and Hockey), and finished with Bronze medals in the Girls Football, the best result by an Island school. - At the Baylink Games, the school achieved superb results across the board, showing an incredible depth of talent and perseverance to be crowned the overall winners of the two day competition. We took Gold medals in U9 Cricket, Cycling & Tag Rugby, and U11 Cricket, Girls Football and Athletics. 12 of the 14 teams that we entered achieved a medal. - Isle of Wight Cross Country Championships Year 5 & 6 team joint winners - Boys Football U9 footballers reached the semi-finals of the Island competition, the boys were joint winners of the League competition. - Girls Football on top of the U11 success, our U9 Girls were Island Champions - Futsal U9 Boys Island runners up - Half term football competition at West Wight Sports Centre Boys team won, girls team placed 3 rd overall (in the boys competition) - Sportshall athletics U9 team were Island Champions, U11 Team were Bay Area Champions and 4 th in Island Final 4

- Sportshall Athletics Bay Area champions again in December 2017 by a substantial margin. - U11 Indoor Cricket Regional and Island Champions, leading to representing the Island in the Gilbert Cup at The Ageas Bowl, home of Hampshire Cricket Club. This was played during the interval of a First Class game - 5 riders from Newchurch took part in the Dressage competition, and 3 in the Show Jumping, with riders ranging from Year 3 to Year 6 - U11 Basketball The Bay Area Champions and 2 nd place in Island Competition leading to Hampshire Games qualification - U11 Hockey Winner of our tournament featuring half of the Island schools, 2 nd place in the grand final leading to Hampshire Games qualification - U11 Mixed Netball winner of Newport tournament, Champions in the Island Final. We beat Ryde School by a golden goal in the final, the first time I have seen them lose in my time at the school. - The Golden Mile has been introduced at our school, and our Young Leaders were used to show good practise at a festival in Winchester, attended by many different schools. Our children and staff can also be seen in Energise Me s promotional video shot at our school. - Tri-Golf 2 nd place in Island Festival with a team made up of some of our less sporty children - U11 Cricket Girls were Island Champions, Boys were runners up - U11 Beach Cricket Island Champions - Primary Island Games Newchurch fielded two teams to represent The Bay area in the regional competition. We won the Cricket and were runners up in the Triathlon. 5

3. Planned expenditure for 2017/2018 Academic year ,130 The five headings below demonstrate how our school expects to see improvements across the key indicators by using the Sports Premium effectively this year A) Improve engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school. Desired outcome Chosen action / approach What is the evidence and rationale for this choice? How will you ensure it is implemented well? Staff lead Anticipated Cost When will you review implementation? Promote physical activity within break and lunch times Equipment to be used to promote physical activity at break & lunch times Children spend 35 minutes a day outside at break times, and although these are usually very active sessions, a greater range of equipment will promote further physical activity Visual monitoring Student council involved in discussing what equipment they would like and use Adam Tuck On-going Promote greater physical activity throughout the day Edumove to coach teachers in to how to intergrate further physical activity into classroom based lessons. Golden Mile used within lessons to both promote physical activity and enhance learning through improved concentration and stimulation. Physically Active Lessons (PAL) which promote academic engagement, attainment, mental health and psycho-social wellbeing. Activity logs kept to monitor physical activity within nonphysical education lessons. Golden Mile monitors to regularly update and certificate children reaching milestones. Adam Tuck plus classroom teachers End of academic year 6

Total Anticipated Cost 1, B) Ensure that the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement Desired outcome Chosen action / approach What is the evidence and rationale for this choice? How will you ensure it is implemented well? Staff lead Anticipated Cost When will you review implementation? Promote greater physical activity throughout the day Edumove to coach teachers in to how to intergrate further physical activity into classroom based lessons. Adam Tuck plus classroom teachers Cost as per above End of academic year 7

Specialist PE lessons taught to all year groups Employment of Adam Tuck as PE Coordinator and Connor Allen as PE Assistant to teach high quality PE to all classes within the school. A child s key physical development is between 4-9 years of age (recent studies show). We need to capture them at this crucial age. We need to feed them with inspiring PE lessons, set the essential PE foundations (e.g. movement, receiving, catching winning and losing), fix them challenges, introduce them to sporting values and give them positive experiences. Timetabled specialist PE lessons for all classes. Lesson observations throughout the year. Kirsty Howarth & Jo Payne 4,000 Ongoing observations Class names to inspire children using local sports stars Visits from our local sports stars to give inspirational talks and demonstrations to our children. Our sports stars that the classes are named after can inspire the children by showing that they have every opportunity of setting goals and reaching them. Feedback from children and teachers. Observing the talks. Adam Tuck & Jo Payne 200 Ongoing Gifted & Talented children identified and offered extra coaching sessions with other talented children in the area. Children selected and partially subsidised to attend Premier School Sport Gifted & Talented program. Focus on the core principles coordination, movement, thinking, body awareness and health and nutrition sessions include activities based around development of skills such as hand/eye coordination, strength, running, striking, balance, agility, power, kicking, jumping/leaping and catching. Trust in the professional company and coaches. Feedback from children, especially those who have attended in previous years and return. Certification for children to show progress. Adam Tuck and Premier School Sport Coaching Year 5 & 6 by Easter, Year 3 & 4 by summer. Ensure the Newchurch Nine is enjoyed by the community and beyond, and safety is paramount. Qualified and experienced medical care on hand should it be required. The Newchurch Nine involves physical exertion, and a range of ages and abilities. By hiring qualified professionals to oversee medical needs. Adam Tuck Following the event 29 th April

Travel to the Hampshire Energise Me Awards. Four members of staff to travel to Southampton to attend the Hampshire Energise Me Awards after being shortlisted for School of the Year. Being shortlisted to the final three for the top sporting school in Hampshire is a huge honour for the school. By representing the school at the award ceremony and ensuring it reaches the local press. Adam Tuck 60 Following the event March 2018 Total Anticipated Cost 5, C) Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and Sport D) Desired outcome Chosen action / approach What is the evidence and rationale for this choice? How will you ensure it is implemented well? Staff lead Anticipated Cost When will you review implementation? Upskill teaching of subjects including Gymnastics, with a qualification to meet Hampshire criteria Undertake training to qualify for British Gymnastics Teachers Intermediate Award Hampshire released guidance that this was the recommended minimum qualification for delivery of gymnastics in curriculum time. Qualification passed and certificate issued. Accompanying recourses being used regularly to teach gymnastics. Adam Tuck Immediately To qualify four members of staff in delivering Multi-skills sessions within the school A course that is being run on the Isle of Wight is a cost effective way of getting several people qualified. This will allow a greater number of teachers and assistants in our school to deliver high-quality multiskills sessions, particularly for the younger children. The course gives certification, and the candidate s delivery is assessed. Jo Payne 320 Once certification is received. 9

Whole school Edumove CPD to ensure that all members of staff are trained and knowledgeable on delivering the sessions. Trained Edumove staff to deliver the program through whole school CPD within one of our Staff Development Days. Physically Active Lessons (PAL) which promote academic engagement, attainment, mental health and psycho-social wellbeing. All staff to attend the training to ensure consistency in our approach. Kirsty Howarth & Jo Payne Cost as per box on Page 6 Reviewed throughout the year. Total anticipated cost D) Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils E) Desired outcome Chosen action / approach What is the evidence and rationale for this choice? How will you ensure it is implemented well? Staff lead Anticipated Cost When will you review implementation? High quality equipment to allow Newchurch to both participate competitively, and to ensure maximum participation in lessons New equipment purchased for hard ball cricket, and further hockey sticks, balls and shin pads to ensure there are enough for all within PE lessons Two traditional sports which have proved popular with our children Use within lessons and competitions Adam Tuck 1, Offer a range of different and alternative sports clubs within our extra-curricular program Skateboard club, Dance club and Table Tennis A wider range and great variety of clubs will appeal to many different children at school Coaches and instructors confirmed to take these clubs after-school Adam Tuck 2,695 Popularity can be reviewed by sign ups on the registration sheets. 10

Improve the quality of teaching in some areas of the Physical Education curriculum Employing specialist teachers e.g. Dance, coming in and teaching within curriculum time Areas identified in current provision which could be improved with specialist teaching. Year 5 had the lowest % reaching ARE so they were provided with regular dance lessons. Observations by other members of staff. Feedback from children Kirsty Howarth & Jo Payne 660 After Easter holidays and J- Rock Travel to all fixtures both on and off the Island Minibus fuel plus ferry bookings Allows more children to play representative sport, and allows us to play at a higher level in Hampshire and beyond Listing the range of extracurricular activities that children have undertaken Adam Tuck 1, Ongoing with spreadsheet Compete in as wide a range of sports as possible within the Island Primary PE setting Entry fees and affiliation fees paid for various events Not only do we need to pay to enter traditional sports like football and cricket, we can also give different children opportunities to take part in sports such as show-jumping and dressage Try to ensure we enter all competitions and events which children are interested in Adam Tuck 178 Ongoing as competitions and events become available Total anticipated cost E) Increased participation in competitive sport Desired F) outcome Chosen action / approach What is the evidence and rationale for this choice? How will you ensure it is implemented well? Staff lead Anticipated Cost When will you review implementation? 11

Give a wide range of children an opportunity to represent the school, in sports other than the traditional sports Enter a mass-participation team to J-Rock, giving over 50 children the opportunity to travel off the Island and compete The aim of the Be Your Best Foundation is to encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles and to be their best without the need for tobacco, alcohol or other drugs. Number of children involved in the show. Results of the show. Kirsty Howarth Review conducted by Kirsty Howarth following the performance All of KS2 to be involved in the Baylink Games Give every child in KS2 the opportunity to compete in a high quality sporting event with many additional features including the opening/closing ceremonies and demonstrations from local sports clubs The Baylink Games is a fantastic competition where children get to meet and compete against many children from the area. It has the feel of the Olympic Games, with schools representing countries and learning about local sports and traditions We have attended in previous years, and it has always been an extremely well run event Adam Tuck 3 per child for 120 kids 360 Following the event with all teachers involved. And feedback from students Total anticipated cost 1, Other expenses Desired outcome Chosen action / approach What is the evidence and rationale for this choice? How will you ensure it is implemented well? Staff lead Anticipated Cost When will you review implementation? All year 6 children to meet the minimum requirements for swimming by the time they leave Newchurch Primary School. We have offered to pay for 10 swimming lessons, or 3 months by Direct Debit for all children in Year 5 & 6 who currently so not meet the criteria. Families can book their swimming lessons at a time and day that suits them. It was very hard to find swimming pool slots that work for both leisure centres and ourselves. The Heights will provide us with feedback as to how the children progress within these swimming lessons Adam Tuck Approx. 20 kids at 22 per head = 440 Summer term 12
