More equipment to allow a greater number of pupils participate at the same time, meaning more emphasis on practising skills. Provision of Extra Curricular Clubs A wide and varied sports club program run at Newchurch, including sports such as: Football for all ages groups and sexes, Cross Country, Cricket, Table Tennis, Golf, Multi-Skills, Dance, and Balanceability. 156 children attended after-school sports club in summer term The range of clubs changes termly ensuring there are at least 2 options per key stage. 3,450 Increased range and number of after-school sports activities available to all ages. Travel to sporting / fixtures / events Attending a huge amount of sports fixtures, tournaments and festivals on the Isle of Wight Children had many opportunities to travel off the Island to play in mainland competitions, including football in Southampton, Bristol and Stoke, and cricket in Southampton and Bristol. 500 Increased links with clubs and pupils attending outside of school activities. 4 Additional Detail (use table below to highlight specific successes of 2016/2017) I am extremely proud of the way we have managed to promote maximum involvement for all children within the school, whilst also gaining fantastic results throughout the year. In terms of involvement for all, below are some of the statistics that I am most proud of over the last academic year: - Every child in KS2 (over 120 children) made at least 2 appearances for the school in the last academic year. - In KS2, the total number of appearances we provided over the year was Our highest number of appearances by an individual was 51 (shared by two girls, one of which is Pupil Premium)- We were awarded Gold Sportsmark Status again, leading to us taking 4 children to the Ageas Bowl, home of Hampshire Cricket. We also achieved some phenomenal results on a local, county and even National level this year, made even more remarkable for a single form entry village school on the Isle of Wight. The highlights include: - Reaching the National Finals of the U11 Girls Football Competition, held on the pitch at Stoke City FC. Having won the Island competition, we went on to represent the Isle of Wight at Hampshire. We won that tournament and the next step was South West of England to be played in Bristol. We finished as runners up that day, enough to qualify us for the National Finals. In the National Finals, we narrowly missed out on the semi-finals, finishing 7 th place in England. - The U11 Girls also cleaned up domestically, winning the Danone Cup, the League and the Cup competitions. - Our U11 Girls Cricket team won the Island competition, meaning another trip to Bristol to represent the county at the South West of England finals at the prestigious Clifton College. - Newchurch qualified for 5 events at the Hampshire Games for the 2 nd year running (Netball, Basketball, Athletics, Girls Football and Hockey), and finished with Bronze medals in the Girls Football, the best result by an Island school. - At the Baylink Games, the school achieved superb results across the board, showing an incredible depth of talent and perseverance to be crowned the overall winners of the two day competition. We took Gold medals in U9 Cricket, Cycling & Tag Rugby, and U11 Cricket, Girls Football and Athletics. 12 of the 14 teams that we entered achieved a medal. - Isle of Wight Cross Country Championships Year 5 & 6 team joint winners - Boys Football U9 footballers reached the semi-finals of the Island competition, the boys were joint winners of the League competition. - Girls Football on top of the U11 success, our U9 Girls were Island Champions - Futsal U9 Boys Island runners up - Half term football competition at West Wight Sports Centre Boys team won, girls team placed 3 rd overall (in the boys competition) - Sportshall athletics U9 team were Island Champions, U11 Team were Bay Area Champions and 4 th in Island Final 4

5 - Sportshall Athletics Bay Area champions again in December 2017 by a substantial margin. - U11 Indoor Cricket Regional and Island Champions, leading to representing the Island in the Gilbert Cup at The Ageas Bowl, home of Hampshire Cricket Club. This was played during the interval of a First Class game - 5 riders from Newchurch took part in the Dressage competition, and 3 in the Show Jumping, with riders ranging from Year 3 to Year 6 - U11 Basketball The Bay Area Champions and 2 nd place in Island Competition leading to Hampshire Games qualification - U11 Hockey Winner of our tournament featuring half of the Island schools, 2 nd place in the grand final leading to Hampshire Games qualification - U11 Mixed Netball winner of Newport tournament, Champions in the Island Final. We beat Ryde School by a golden goal in the final, the first time I have seen them lose in my time at the school. - The Golden Mile has been introduced at our school, and our Young Leaders were used to show good practise at a festival in Winchester, attended by many different schools. Our children and staff can also be seen in Energise Me s promotional video shot at our school. - Tri-Golf 2 nd place in Island Festival with a team made up of some of our less sporty children - U11 Cricket Girls were Island Champions, Boys were runners up - U11 Beach Cricket Island Champions - Primary Island Games Newchurch fielded two teams to represent The Bay area in the regional competition. We won the Cricket and were runners up in the Triathlon. 5

8 Specialist PE lessons taught to all year groups Employment of Adam Tuck as PE Coordinator and Connor Allen as PE Assistant to teach high quality PE to all classes within the school. A child s key physical development is between 4-9 years of age (recent studies show). We need to capture them at this crucial age. We need to feed them with inspiring PE lessons, set the essential PE foundations (e.g. movement, receiving, catching winning and losing), fix them challenges, introduce them to sporting values and give them positive experiences. Timetabled specialist PE lessons for all classes. Lesson observations throughout the year. 9 Travel to the Hampshire Energise Me Awards. Four members of staff to travel to Southampton to attend the Hampshire Energise Me Awards after being shortlisted for School of the Year. Being shortlisted to the final three for the top sporting school in Hampshire is a huge honour for the school. By representing the school at the award ceremony and ensuring it reaches the local press. Qualification passed and certificate issued. Accompanying recourses being used regularly to teach gymnastics. Adam Tuck Immediately To qualify four members of staff in delivering Multi-skills sessions within the school A course that is being run on the Isle of Wight is a cost effective way of getting several people qualified. This will allow a greater number of teachers and assistants in our school to deliver high-quality multiskills sessions, particularly for the younger children. 12 Give a wide range of children an opportunity to represent the school, in sports other than the traditional sports Enter a mass-participation team to J-Rock, giving over 50 children the opportunity to travel off the Island and compete The aim of the Be Your Best Foundation is to encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles and to be their best without the need for tobacco, alcohol or other drugs. All year 6 children to meet the minimum requirements for swimming by the time they leave Newchurch Primary School. We have offered to pay for 10 swimming lessons, or 3 months by Direct Debit for all children in Year 5 & 6 who currently so not meet the criteria. Families can book their swimming lessons at a time and day that suits them. It was very hard to find swimming pool slots that work for both leisure centres and ourselves. 15 19 children (63%) exceed all expectations We have arranged extra swimming lessons in Term 3 (after Easter 2018) for our weakest swimmers to enable them to meet most of these guidelines, using the Sports Premium funding. 15
