Richardson Middle School 20 West Woodland Avenue, Springfield, PA Members Present: Jennifer Lofland, President Bruce Lord, Vice President Domenic Bentivegna, Secretary Douglas Carney, Treasurer Frank Agovino, Director Christopher DeSantis, Director Kevin Keenan, Director Joseph Sillo, Director -absent Geraldine Sullivan, Director Anthony Barber, Superintendent of Schools Don Mooney, Executive Director of Operations Cynthia Mattei, DOTL Elementary Jeffery Zweiback, DOTL Secondary Linda Bellace, Director, Human Resources Lisanne Mikula, Solicitor Ren Bruinsma, Student Intern Rachel Smith, Student Intern MEETING MINUTES President Lofland led the pledge to the flag. A. BOARD RECOGNITION Dr. Barber ETR Highlights Schools To Watch Mr. Dan Tracy, Mr. Walter Hartshorn Mr. Tracy explained the application and qualification process. He also talked about criteria they were looking for and who was interviewed. Writing portfolio Mr. Hartshorn Writing assignments Mr. Tracy Mr. Hartshorn and Mr. Tracy explained the writing program at ETR. Cougar Collective Online Magazine Mrs. Peracchia Students Emily Llewellyn, Carlyene McGurk, Julia Battista Concept of the magazine program was explained. Geography Bee Winner Student - Danny Niklauski Contest criteria was explained and the winner introduced. 1 st Trimester Essay Contest Winners Mrs. Smith Students Elsa Joseph, Jasmin Jerry, Aya Laassel Parameters of program were explained.

2 Page 2 B. PUBLIC COMMENT - none C. ITEMS FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION 1. Cougar Student Successes Ms. Bruinsma, Ms. Smith Friday, January 27 th, there will be a Hi Q competition. Quarterlies this week. Pancake Breakfast for Steve Stefani Dance Marathon this Saturday. Side by Side orchestra and band concert with the 8 th graders next Monday. AP Literature Macbeth Research Paper highlight. 2. Academic Highlights Ms. Mattei, Mr. Zweiback Secondary: ETR I want to thank Mr. Tracy and his team for putting together a far more interesting Secondary update than I can do sitting in this seat and reading to you. Bruner Bash this Friday at ETR Quickly grown into one of the premier fundraising events in the county. High School College Planning Night for Juniors was Wednesday, January 18th at 6:00 PM. Kendra Campbell provides students and parent a tremendous amount of information on the college process. Next time you see it advertised, be sure to join. They are posted on the school s website and Weekly announcements from the High School. District 12 Chorus competition with 5 students in District: Tim Olson Jacqueline Napier ----Regions---- Marissa Perri Evelyn Kampmeyer Edward O'Connor The W.E.B. DuBois Honor Society Induction held on January 19th was a wonderful event (25 students grades 10-12). Judge Nathan Nichols of Delaware County was the guest speaker. Elementary The third through fifth grade students have completed the Math CDTs. The principals and teachers are reviewing data and developing an instructional plan that will meet the students needs based on their areas of strength and their areas of need. The first grade students are working on two very exciting projects with the high school students.

3 Page 3 First, Mike Mann s National Art Honor Society students are working on a digital art project in which they will digitally place students into their own art work. First graders are creating the winter scenes and the high school students are completing the photography and digital enhancements. The second project is a video project. Brooklyn Vaughn, an advanced video student at the high school, is going to help them create weekly weather reports which then will be shown each week to the school. We are really excited about these projects and the connections that are being forged between our oldest and youngest students. 3. Cougar Sports Report Mr. Keenan The Bocce Team had its first match at home on January 25th against Chester Upland. Tied after 3 sets, the decision was made via rock, paper, scissors and CU prevailed. Next match is with Marple Newtown at home on February 16th. Cheerleading won District 1 competition and qualified for states. They placed 2 nd in states and qualified for nationals on February 10th. Girls Basketball, currently 15-1, is number 1 in District 1. Central League playoffs begin February 11th and District 1 playoffs begin February 21st. Girls play Stath Haven on January 27th at home. Wrestling team defeated Ridley The boys will participate in the Coal Cracker Invitational at Panther Valley high school. Post season begins February 18th. Ice Hockey, SHS beat Strath Haven 8-3 on January 25th. Boys Basketball, currently 10-7 and ranked 12 th in District 1. They defeated Marple Newtown on January 24th and will play Strath Haven on January 27th. Boys and Girls swimming at Strath Haven next Friday and Central League championships begin February 10th. D. COMMITTEE REPORTS Education Jennifer Lofland, Chair Facilities Douglas Carney, Chair Met January 19th, high school plans being reviewed. Should be available to be re-submitted to the planning commission soon. Finance & Audit Frank Agovino, Chair Met January 19th. Budget discussions in progress. Personnel Bruce Lord, Chair Next meeting February 22nd. Policy Domenic Bentivegna, Chair Meeting scheduled for January 30 th.

4 Page 4 Communications Frank Agovino, Chair Has not met. Volunteer Memorial Domenic Bentivegna Met January 16 th. Planning has started for the parade and volunteer nominees paperwork will soon be submitted. E. CONSENT AGENDA Although Board action is required, it is generally unnecessary to hold discussion on these items. With the consent of all members, they are therefore grouped and approval is given in one motion. In the event a Board member wants to discuss any item, the Board President will move it to an appropriate place on the agenda. Motion: Ms. Sullivan Second: Mr. Lord Comments: None 1. Approval of Minutes Regular Board Meeting November 3 & 17, 2016 December 8, 2016 (Reorganization and Regular) 2. Payment of Bills General Fund checks for the months of November & December, 2016 totaling $1,940, Acknowledgement of Receipt of Financial Reports Tax Collector s Reports October, November & December, 2016 Springfield and Morton District Financial Reports November & December, 2016 General Fund, Investment Schedule, Revenue, Expenditures Financial Reports November & December, 2016 Athletic Fund, Middle School & High School Activity Accounts F. ITEMS FOR BOARD ACTION 1. Personnel Report Ms. Bellace RECOMMENDATION: that the Board approves the Personnel actions as listed in the Personnel Report. Motion: Mr. Bentivegna Second: Mr. DeSantis Comments: Ms. Bellace went over the report.

5 Page 5 2. Special Education Settlement Dr. Barber RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approves the joint Special Education Agreement between Springfield School District and Student #9263. Motion: Mr. Lord Second: Mr. Bentivegna Comments: No discussion is permitted. G. LIAISON REPORTS 1. Legislative Board Report Mr. Agovino Property tax eliminations is being discussed again. 2. DCIU Board Report Mr. DeSantis No Report. 3. DCCC Board Report Mr. Carney Met January 25th. Enrollment continues to decline as economy improves (a normal occurrence). A new President has been named. Joy Black to succeed Dr. Parker at the end of the year. 4. Future Board Meetings February 9 & 23, Superintendent s Salutations Dr. Barber Before and after each meeting, the Board meets in Nonpublic Executive Study Session to discuss personnel, legal and labor relations matters.
