(All meetings are at the Sidney High School from 6-8 p.m. unless otherwise noted.) $75 deposits are due to the Extension Office on January 15, March 15 and May 15. It s time to enroll, or re-enroll in 4-H! Until members and volunteers re-enroll in the new 4-H year, they are NOT covered by the Iowa 4-H liability insurance policy and will likely not receive correspondence regarding important events like workshops, livestock weigh-ins, or other deadlines critical to your 4-H participation. The county deadline was November 15 th, so get yourself and your friends re-enrolled today! There is no cost to enroll in Fremont County 4-H! 3 Weigh-In Details *Please Read if attending* Must be an active member on 4-H online (re-enrolled) to weigh-in your calves Beef forms can be found at: and click on 4-H Market Beef Identification Report Or... pick up the forms in the office Fill those forms out prior to weigh-in On the day of weigh-in, check in with the office gals to turn in your paperwork BEFORE unloading your calves All market beef that might be exhibited at Ak-Sar-Ben or Iowa State Fair will have a retinal image done during the weigh-in. $5 per calf, regardless if you choose both Ak-Sar- Ben and State Fair. Money will be collected during weigh-in. 4 Premise ID Requirement Policy - Required for ANY market animals - Application for premise ID - Go to: cationprogram.asp - Click on: Download your Premises Identification Number Application Here on the right hand side of the page - Fill out form and send it to IDALS (address on bottom of form) - IDALS will send you back a Premise ID Number - You NEED that number to provide at weigh-ins This is a new policy but it will be required for ANY market animal. This means some farms may need to apply for their own premise ID. Also, families should know that if they purchase an animal, they will need to get the premise ID. If the seller can t produce it, they shouldn t buy from that farm. Once again, you will need to provide your premise ID number to us at weigh-in. If this cannot be provided at weigh-in you cannot exhibit that animal in the county Fair! If you have ANY questions please let us know! That is what we are here for! 5 Iowa 4-H Camera Corps Camera Corps is an opportunity to creatively explore photography and social media. 4-H Camera Corps is a talented group of selected youth photographers working together to capture beautiful, powerful, and unique photographs of communities from across of the state of Iowa. Each month, a photography topic/theme will be provided with different subject matters as the primary focus. The best photographs from across the state will be submitted digitally to Iowa 4-H social media platforms (Facebook). Voting will be opened to the public and a panel of professional photographer evaluators (get feedback for free on your photos!). The top voted photographs from each assignment of the month will be highlighted and receive statewide recognition. The top photos from the year will be printed and shown at statewide gallery exhibitions. Re-cap - Upload a photo once a month according to the theme - You get feedback from professional photographers to make you a better photographer - These are uploaded to the Iowa 4-H page (you re practically famous) and people vote on their favorite pictures of the month If you are interested, please apply!!! at: Only takes like 1 minute to apply! 6 It s Time to Fill out Scholarships! The applications for the 4-H scholarship program will be available November 20, 2017 and will close on February 1, 2018 Over 90 scholarship opportunities, valued at over $100,000, will be awarded this year! Two scholarships specific to Fremont County! Donald and Ruby Godfrey - $500 Stratton - $750 Applications online - go to: or_4hers/scholarships/ for complete list of scholarships, eligibility, helpful hints and instructions. There are many scholarships for sophomore, juniors and seniors as well. Don t forget 4-H alumni! RACE ACROSS IOWA Challenge Kick Off: November 1st Clubs take part in the challenge by introducing a variety of healthy living practices during club meetings each month. Completing the challenges earns the clubs "miles" as they race across Iowa throughout all 20 regions of the state. This 1,400 mile route destination sure fulfills the definition of a challenge, but by working together as a team and setting goals to incorporate healthy living practices each month, we hope to see you meet or surpass the final mile by the end of June! 7 Coming Soon in February! More info coming soon! Fremont County Extension and Outreach will celebrate 100 years of organization in 2018! Celebrate with us June 9-10, 2018! 4-H and other community clubs are encouraged to plan an event during our 2-day celebration. Possible activities already in the works include a dance, face-painting, Bingo, petting zoo, dunk tank, 4-H record book display, fashion show, STEM activities, educational presentations, church service, pancake breakfast, beef dinner, a special visit from ISU s Cy, movie in the park, and a performance by the Two-County Dusters. New ideas include a water balloon fight, yard game tournament, and teen dance.

8 Volunteers are the heart of our organization! Competent, caring adult volunteers are an Essential Element of the Iowa 4-H program. Volunteers contribute their time and talents to 4-H and in return 4-H has the responsibility to provide them with the positive youth development knowledge and skills they need to effectively work with youth. 9 4-H National Healthy Living Summit The National 4-H Conference Center is hosting a four day conference for high school youth on Healthy Living, February at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. This event will develop youth knowledge and skills in addressing today s health related issues including nutrition education, physical fitness, wellness, and emotional wellbeing. Youth will participate in a variety of workshops, learn from professionals in these related fields, and create action plans to implement projects to promote healthy living back home in their communities. The structure of the summit maximizes the amount of hands-on learning experiences and translates that learning to direct outcomes. The youth leaders representing Iowa will share about their learning experiences with other youth upon their return. Deadline to Apply is December 8, 2017 Iowa 4-H is looking for high school aged youth, in grades 9-12 interested in the Healthy Living program priority area that want to grow their leadership skills, learn more about the Healthy Living area and return to Iowa with new ideas to put into action and serve as ambassadors for 4-H Healthy Living in Iowa.
