3 Life at Wootton High School Students have 7 periods a day in their schedule. Currently, school begins at 7:45 am and ends at 2:30 pm. Wootton high school has one lunch period. Wootton offers a variety of clubs and activities for students to participate in both during lunch and after school, including sports, theatre, arts, music, academic and public service clubs! Students are encouraged to get involved from the start!

4 Life at Wootton High School Each class has approximately 550 students (primarily from Frost and Cabin John Middle Schools) While students will have many teachers over their tenure at Wootton, your students counselor and administrator will remain consistent over the four years. Wootton strives to offer a variety of academic and extracurricular programs that suit every learner.

6 Lunch Wootton is a closed campus for lunch (students MAY NOT leave campus during the lunch period). All students eat lunch during 5 th period (11:15-12:00 pm). Students have options during lunch, including working with teachers, spending time with friends, or attending an extra-curricular club or activity. Food is sold in the cafeteria and in the Commons.

11 Grades and Credits Students take 7 classes per semester. Each class is worth ½ credit, and a student must pass the class (with a grade of A, B, C, or D) to receive the credit. A student should earn 7 credits each year (3.5 credits per semester).

12 Calculating a Student s GPA To calculate unweighted GPA: 4 for each A 3 for each B 2 for each C 1 for each D O for each E To calculate weighted GPA: Honors and AP courses 5 for each A 4 for each B 3 for each C 1 for each D 0 for each E A students GPA represents the culmination of their semester grades and NOT the quarter grades.

13 Eligibility All 9 th grade students enter high school eligible for extra-curricular activities. To participate in extracurricular activities, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA with no more than one E. Eligibility is based on the student s quarter grades.

New state requirement: Students must be enrolled in a Math course each year in grades 9 through 12. This may result in earning more than 4 credits in math for graduation. 1 credit 3 credits (Biology, Physical Science and 1 credit) 3 credits (USH, NSL and MWH) 1 credit (Basic Technology) Electives 2 credits in a world language or 2 credits in American Sign Language AND 2.5 credits in elective courses 2 credits in advanced technology education AND 2.5 credits in elective courses 4 credits in a state-approved career and technology program AND 0.5 credit in elective courses Student Services Learning (SSL) Students must meet established service-learning requirements

25 Wootton s Athletic Program There are 3 Athletic seasons each year. (Fall, Winter, and Spring) All entering 9 th graders are eligible to participate in an athletic program. To remain legible, students must earn a 2.0 GPA on their quarterly marking period grades. The can not have more than 1 E on their report card. Students must have their medical evaluation completed before the first day of practice. This includes try outs.
