1 SUPPLEMENTAL POSITIONS CREATION OF NEW POSITIONS: Creation of any new extra-curricular, co-curricular positions, or other supplemental positions shall be at the discretion of the Board of School Directors. In order to have a new position approved the following procedure is to be followed: 1. The proposed position shall be developed and presented to the Superintendent, Athletic Director (for athletic positions) and the appropriate Building Principal. 2. The proposal shall include the job description of the position, the rationale for the position, the number of students/athletes impacted by the position, the complexity, size, visibility, time, and experience related to the position. A point value should also be assigned to the position based on the aforementioned components. An implementation plan and timeline shall also be provided. 3. Upon approval by the Athletic Director (for athletic positions) and Building Principal, the proposal will be sent to the Budget and Finance Committee for review. The Board may also request that the Extra-Curricular Committee examine the proposal. 4. Following review of the proposal by the Budget and Finance Committee, and/or Extra- Curricular Committee, the proposal if approved and if needed, will be reviewed by the full Board for possible action. I. ATHLETIC POSITION Salaries for coaching positions, which may be designated by the Board, are listed in Appendix A. One year contracts will be tendered to qualified individuals who accept the assignment at the salary levels described in this agreement. The first salary level for a new coach shall be as follows: 1. Starting salary shall be determined by the Coach s Salary Scale (Appendix A), based on position and years of credited experience, not to exceed ten (10) years of credited experience. Only years experience in the specific sport for which the individual is being considered are counted, not the total of all years of experience in all areas. Coaching experience must also have occurred at the Middle School or High School levels, be a paid position, and must be documented on the application at the time of hire in order to qualify. 2. Qualified employees of the district shall be given an interview for all posted coaching positions for which they apply. II. ARTS POSITION Salaries for arts positions, which may be designated by the Board, are listed in Appendix B. One year contracts will be tendered to qualified individuals who accept the assignment at the salary levels described in this agreement. The first salary level for a new arts advisor shall be as follows 1. Starting salary shall be determined by the Art s Salary Scale (Appendix B), based on position and years of credited experience, not to exceed ten (10) years of credited experience. Only years experience in the specific activity for which the individual is being considered are counted, not the total of all years of experience in all areas. Coaching experience must also have occurred at the Middle School or High School levels, be a paid position, and must be documented on the application at the time of hire in order to qualify.
2 III. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Co-curricular salary schedules have been determined by the Littlestown School District. Co- Curricular salaries are shown in Appendix C. IV. DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND COORDINATORS Teacher Leader positions will be determined annually based on district vision, goals, and initiatives. Stipends will be $1,000-$1,500. Teacher Leader positions shall be structured and posted annually on July 1 st. These positions are not officially evaluated positions and are not subject to yearly increases. V. SALARY ADJUSTMENTS: Salary adjustments for ALL Coaching/Arts positions shall be based on the Coach/Arts Salary Scale (Appendix A & B). Upon being offered to return as coach the following School Year, a Coach/Arts position will advance one year on the Coach/Arts Salary Scale. This will be their salary for the subsequent year, not including any additional post season pay that is earned. VI. EVALUATIONS: The Littlestown School District recognizes the importance of the evaluation process. The evaluation process promotes both employee and department growth as a recap and evaluation of the year is reviewed and discussed. Each year, positions that use the Salary Scale must complete the evaluation process with either the Athletic Director (for athletic positions) or the Building Principal/Designee (for non-athletic positions). Coaches will be evaluated in 7 categories: Sportsmanship, Communication, Organization, Professional Growth, Fairness, Knowledge, and Student Participation. Coaches will receive an unsatisfactory, needs improvement, or satisfactory in each category. A coach receiving a needs improvement in more than 2 categories will be given an overall score of needs improvement. If this occurs, the Athletic Director in collaboration with the Coach will create a clear and written plan in the form of an Athletic Improvement Plan. The Athletic Improvement Plan will provide the Coach with clear goals and areas of improvement in order to receive a satisfactory in the subsequent year. Two years of receiving an overall needs improvement will result in an overall score of unsatisfactory and the coach will not be asked to return as coach the following season. A category score of unsatisfactory will be given before an improvement plan is implemented only in the case of a clear breech of professional or ethical conduct regarding their position. 1. All Varsity Head Coaches are responsible to evaluate all of their assistants, including Junior High coaches with the Athletic Director and with possible help from the High School Principal if needed. The Athletic Director has the authority to override the evaluation given to an assistant by the head coach. 2. The High School Band Director is responsible for evaluating all Band Assistants, including Percussion and Flags and Rifle. This shall be done with the Athletic Director with possible help from the appropriate Building Principal if needed. 3. The Play and Musical Directors are responsible for evaluating all assistant positions working in conjunction with them such as assistants, design/construction, etc. This shall be done with the Athletic Director with possible help from the High School Principal if needed. 4. The Middle School Principal is responsible for evaluating all Middle School Arts positions.
3 VII. EXTENDED SEASON: Any coach whose sport enters into PIAA post-season play, in which you must qualify, shall be compensated at a rate as established below: 1. Salary divided by the total number of weeks in a regular season, times the total of postseason weeks. a. The regular season is defined as the first day in which the team or individuals practice as established by PIAA, until the last competition date of any contest students and/or teams do not need to qualify for. Example: Wrestling Sectionals are regular season due to schools that wish to participate automatically gaining entry to the District III event. However, the District III Wrestling tournament is an event students must qualify for and thus would count towards post season pay. b. Post season play shall be calculated from the day after the regular season ends, and end on the last day of which the team or individuals on the team participate in PIAA post season play. Any fraction of a post season week will be calculated on a pro-rated basis. This provision shall include only the head coach and varsity assistants involved in the post season play, as applicable. The salary scale document will be in effect starting July 1 of the school year. All other agreement discussions will occur on an annual basis by request from school district representatives or LEA representatives.
