3 3 9:30-10:45: Observe a ballet class/nfac 130 Professor Pam Luedtke Professor Luedtke has generously offered to allow ten or so STUDENTS to sit in on her ballet class. If you would like to observe this class and interact with the dancers afterwards, please gather in the lobby and one of us will escort you to her class. 11:00 11:50 a.m. STUDENT LUNCH DUC Alumni Room Lunch will be provided for all invited students. 11:00-11:50 a.m. TEACHER LUNCH DUC Legacy Room Barbara Dixson will lead a discussion on best practices and assignments. FOR EVERYONE At 12:00 noon, we will meet in the DUC Theatre for a reading by Jill Sisson Quinn, a nature writer and high school teacher at SPASH, Stevens Point Area High School. Her essays have appeared in Fourth Genre, Crab Orchard Review, Bellingham Review, Quarter After Eight, Ecotone, The Good Men Project, and American Nature Writing Quinn won the Annie Dillard Award in Creative Nonfiction in 2003 and her work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Most recently, she has received the prestigious Rona Jaffe award for emerging women writers. She will entertain questions from the audience after her reading..

David is a an Assistant Professor of English at UW-Stevens Point where he teaches Methods of Teaching Composition for future 9-12 English educators and Methods of Teaching Reading and Composition for future 6-8 English teachers; he ll also be supervising many of our English student teachers this spring. Prior to his stint at UWSP, David taught high school English for nine years in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

7 7 For STUDENTS not scheduled for an afternoon writing workshop session, HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY, PARENTS, and friends: 1:00-2:15 am PERCUSSION WORKSHOP - DUC 235 Joan Wiese Johannes will demonstrate how percussion instruments can be used to create pleasing rhythms when writing and how to use music to accompany writing. After a short demonstration of how she combines poetry and her original music for the Native American flute, participants will get a chance to try out the different instruments and use them to enhance their own writing. Joan was a beloved Language Arts teacher at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids and has won The Chisholm Award for the exemplary teaching of English and a Kohl Fellowship. Lincoln High School Teacher of the Year for 2003 and Wisconsin Secondary Teacher of the Year in 1993, she has been publishing poetry for over twenty years and music for five. She was also awarded a silver medallion from Carlos Nakai for publishing Native American flute/vocal duets and has released a duet CD, Heyoalinda, and presented flute/poetry workshops for Wisconsin flute circles and for the Pacific NW Flute Gathering in Washington.
