In 1993, we were the first university to appoint a Pro Vice Chancellor with the task of improving access to tertiary education. Since then, we ve made university study a reality for thousands of students from a wide variety of backgrounds through initiatives such as UniSA College, on-campus regional study options, support for Indigenous students and students with disabilities and learning difficulties. UniSA College in particular offers tertiary preparation programs and has a dedicated team, UniSA Connect, who visit schools and the community to inspire students into further study. page 04 Australia s university of enterprise

8 RANKED No.1 IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA FOR STUDENT SATISFACTION 2015 GOOD UNIVERSITIES GUIDE Trusting our brand Reputation matters in tertiary education, and ours is one on the rise as the youngest Australian university ranked in Times Higher Education s top 50 of world universities under 50 years old. Our upward trajectory also continued in 2015, when we entered the top 300 in the QS World University Rankings for the very first time. We re also South Australia s leading university for graduate careers and student satisfaction, and have been awarded five stars for our research, employability of our graduates, teaching, facilities and internationalisation by QS. Our Business School has held EQUIS the EFMD Quality Improvement System accreditation for more than ten years. page 06 Australia s university of enterprise
9 RANKED IN THE WORLD S TOP 100 FOR ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY 2014/15 TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION SUBJECT RANKINGS AND TOP 100 FOR ARCHITECTURE AND EDUCATION 2015 QS WORLD SUBJECT RANKINGS Learning from the best UniSA is consistently in the top 10 of Australian universities for the number of its staff who hold PhDs. We also hold places among the world s brightest and best for our teaching of teachers and architects in the 2015 QS World subject rankings. Our plans for a new education precinct at Magill, including an on-campus birth to year 12 school, will also transform how we deliver teaching in education for the future. Students at the University also learn using the best thanks to the Digital Learning Strategy our commitment to create innovative, flexible and personalised learning experiences. Experiencing the workplace Our graduates move seamlessly into their professions because we embed experience in every program. As an example, our health sciences students alone undertake more than 1.3 million clinical placement hours each year. This approach also extends into the classroom with practical laboratories and virtual learning tools. Our nursing school, for example, is one of the nation s largest producers of nurses. And, in addition to their placements, our nursing graduates are prepared for the workplace in high-grade simulated hospital wards and learn using lifelike training manikins. page 07

15 Closing the gap THE FIRST UNIVERSITY TO ISSUE A STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT TO AUSTRALIAN RECONCILIATION We have resolved to become South Australia s university of choice for Indigenous people, and as the State s first university to launch its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) we are well on our way to achieving this. Our RAP provides a framework for building relationships, deepening respect and providing more opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Breaking ground Irene and David Davy Scholarship for Advancement of Aboriginal Education recipient Trevor Ritchie made history when he graduated from UniSA s Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) and became SA s first identified Indigenous occupational therapist. It s easy to feel overwhelmed by the enormity of closing the gap in Aboriginal health inequality, but I m committed to playing my part, Trevor said. Empowering Indigenous youth The Aboriginal Power Cup is an initiative lead by the Port Adelaide Football Club, Santos Limited, and the South Australian Government aimed at enabling participation in sport, encouraging health and wellbeing and empowering Indigenous youth to complete their secondary studies. The University, through UniSA College, is a supporting partner of the Power Cup and offers scholarships to participants. Aiming for success The Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) is based at the University of South Australia and provides Indigenous high school students with the skills, opportunities, belief and confidence to finish school at the same rate as their peers. Reconciliation is much more than a word. It is a culture. Prof. David Lloyd Vice Chancellor and President University of South Australia page 13
