Through this I was taught the meaning of teamwork and exposed to the realities of working with people from different backgrounds. Managing Integrated Projects (ISP) and English Term Projects taught me how to utilise limited resources to accomplish my goals. This learning experience has certainly prepared me well for the next step of my tertiary education.

4 The Taylor s Approach to the s Foundation in (FIS) KPT/JPS (R/010/3/0085) (A7920) 06/17 This programme equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue a future in the dynamic field of science. The programme emphasises on learning by doing, and therefore, students are regularly required to work on actual projects. Students are exposed to a dynamic environment, which encourages two-way interaction between students and lecturers. Learning also takes place beyond the classroom via community service trips, interaction with researchers, participation in competitions, and many more. Wun Hii Zen Bachelor of (Hons) (Food with Nutrition) Supportive and dedicated lecturers The FIS programme allows us to carry out handson learning through our assignments, guided by our lecturers. Our dedicated lecturers provide us with a lot of support throughout our study. Since joining FIS, I have improved tremendously in my communication and interpersonal skills.

A balanced assessment method, whereby 50% of the evaluation is allocated to various continuous assessments such as quizzes, class tests, projects and oral presentations while the remaining 50% to the final exam. FROM THEORY TO APPLICATION Holistic learning approach through the Integrated Project (ISP), which implements research skills and scientific concepts and balances learning outcomes with hands-on experimentation. 6 Integrated Project (ISP) The ISP provides a holistic approach to science education that enables students to apply their knowledge more effectively. While learning components of the 3 sciences, students will also perform 8-10 weeks of actual experimentation via individual projects, which culminate in the students producing a proposal paper and project prototype. Julie Yeo Hsiao Hui Bachelor of, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Develop strong presentation skills and exposure I am very glad that I chose FIS because the solid foundation programme prepared me well for my tertiary programme. Working in teams with students from different backgrounds and countries further enhanced my social and problem solving skills. I developed my presentation skills through class presentations, role-plays and exhibitions. The Integrated Project also helped us to be creative and develops our research interest and skills. Learning Beyond Boundaries The students engage in a variety of learning styles and experiences that extend beyond the walls of the classroom. This multi-dimensional learning approach better prepares them for their tertiary education journey. Quiz Champions Foundation in students competed against 21 teams from various institutions of higher learning to emerge as Champions of UTAR Intervarsity General Quiz Competition 2012.

7 Designing A Solar/ Hybrid Car Adopting ideas from Formula 1, team FIS designed a solar powered car while exploring factors affecting mobility, speed and an electrical feedback system. Fruit Peels as Water Filter Students investigated the effectiveness of different fruit peels as filtering agents, and how this may be applied to filtering of harmful industrial waste. Limonene, an environment-friendly way to dissolve Styrofoam Students developed a new eco-friendly way to dissolve Styrofoam by using the natural citrus fruit peel extracts, limonene. Comparisons were made using different citrus fruit peels to dissolve Styrofoam. Soy Pens Students explored and substituted the petroleum component found in most pens with granular soy lecithin to produce similar viscosity, making pens more environment-friendly. English Term Project (ETP) As one of the semester modules, the English Term Project (ETP) exposes students to a variety of experiences, which include stage performances, community outreach projects as well as game and food carnivals. Soft skills such as leadership, communication as well as inter- and intra-personal skills are enhanced, equipping students with the skills and ability to face the real world. Interactive Learning Clickers and lecture recordings are introduced to enhance students learning experience.

Malaysian students are required to attain a credit in Bahasa Melayu and English. SPM students will also need to attain a pass in History. UEC: Pass with B4 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics / Mathematics. Food with Nutrition / Biomedical SPM / O Level: Pass with min. 5 credits, 3 of which must be from either Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics / English.
